I highly recommend Six Star Automotive. I am spending the winter in a town, Sandpoint Idaho, where I know absolutely no one. And of course as soon as I arrived my 12 year old Ford truck had some engine related issues. I looked online for a local repair shop with good reviews and found Six Star Automotive. The front desk person at the local YMCA also gave the thumbs up regarding Six Star. It took less than a day to hear back from Fred, the owner. He sent me a detailed estimate on what was wrong and what needed to be done to fix the problems including the cost of each line item. My truck had some relatively substantial issues which wasn't a huge shock since I had 188,000 miles and not a lot of repair bills up to that point. I called Fred for some clarification and gave him the approval to do the work. We were already at the end of their work week so I knew I would be without the truck for at least the weekend. Fred gave me a loaner vehicle for the entire time my truck was being worked on at no extra cost. I got an update email on their progress I think on Tuesday or so. They had discovered a couple more problems. They finished the truck within a day or two I believe. The bill came right where Fred had estimated it to be. Within a day or so I went for a drive around the lake and noticed exhaust or steam coming from the engine. I checked the temp's and oil pressure and all was normal so I felt safe driving it back to Six Star to have them take a look. Fred came out to look and could see there was a problem. He asked if I had an hour to spare so his mechanic could check it out. Within 30 minutes his mechanic determined I had a cracked valve cover and it needed to be replaced. Fred told me they weren't sure how it happened but he knew it wasn't my fault and he was pretty sure it wasn't their fault but regardless he was going to take care of it on his end and no cost to me. He gave me the Chevy pickup as a loaner and had my truck fixed within a few days. I drove the truck about 400 miles back to my home for Christmas and then back to Sandpoint after the new year. My 12 year old truck is running like new. I notice it everytime I drive. There is more power, the mileage is a little better, the heating and air conditioning system is better and the biggest issue of all is the smell of exhaust I would get at random times while driving and also everytime I started the engine inside the truck was gone. This was a 3 - 4 year issue that no other car repair could solve. I had looked online in the Ford F150 forums for an idea of what it might be but never had any success. I told Fred about the issue really as a side note just in case. When I got the truck back he told me he thought they had solved the issue and as turned out they did. I appologize for the length of this review but I want people to know Fred runs an amazing automotive repair business and is a man who keeps his word. read more

After receiving poor service at the Nissan Dealership in Couer d'Alene that that left our car in dangerous driving condition, we went to Six Star Automotive upon the recommendation from a friend. We met Chris Cook, who was ready to sort out the problems in our Murano. He was courteous, conscientious and smart. He reassured us that they would get to the bottom of the problems. In just a few days the car was back to the same high level of functionality we were used to. I can't recommend this automotive business enough. I took my 2015 GMC sierra here to have it diagnosed as it was losing power and the engine light was flashing. They diagnosed it and told me the codes said that it needed new spark plugs and wires. And then they gave me a quote of almost $1100 to do this work! I'm not a schmuck so I told them I'm not paying that much to have spark plug wires and spark plugs replaced so I found another local mechanic to do the work for $200 plus the price of parts. Unfortunately after doing that work, the truck was still running the same not even drivable. I do not recommend using this place. read more

I called Six Star on the recommendation of my friend because my check engine light came on. Chris answered the phone and said they could hook up their computer to my car to give me an idea of what was going on. I drove down and he met me out front with the hand held unit! He hooke it up, explained the error and possible causes. He reset the light for me and gave me some suggestions on what to do next. Soooo helpful and he did stress me out by telling me that I needed to do anything right away. I really appreciate the honesty! I would definetly head back if my car starts acting up again. read more

I went into six star on Friday because my check engine light was on so I stop by and the owner Chris was there and said what can I help you with. I told him that the check engine light just came on as I started the car on he had one of the mechanics come out with their little machine they found out what the problem was scheduled my appointment. Chris said bring it in on Tuesday at 8 a.m. I showed up a little early they had my car in the shop got it fixed figured out the problem was a sensor and it runs better now than it has been so I want to thank six star all the great work they do. They got my car in at 8 in the morning and was out before 10 a.m. I truly appreciate all the hard work and great customer service and I love that you're honest with your customers and go right to the point to get the car fixed thank you so much. I'm greatly disappointed in this place. I was traveling and my back brakes were making noise. They looked and said there was play in a strut. So they replaced that. They also " checked" all the fluid levels. Upon arrival at our next destination the back brake was grinding and my husband had to replace the pads. The rear end was making noise and the car was jerking and grinding in the rear end. When we checked there was no fluid in the gear box and the nut was loose. We visit often near Sandpoint. But I will never trust my car to these guys again. read more

I had my car towed to Six Star after it wouldn't start and my hubby determined it was not the battery. Dale informed me they could diagnose the problem 2 days later. However, the car started right up for them. Six Star gave me the option of picking up the car or having them run further testing. I just decided to pick up the car. So far, it hasn't died on me again, but if/when it does I will bring it back to Six Star. Since the problem would not manifest for them, they didn't charge me anything. I had an engine installed and supplied by six star in November. in January, the engine was overheating because it had burned all the coolant internally. Six star had my truck for more than 2 weeks. when I got it back I was watching the coolant very closely. I had to add coolant several times and also had small puddles of coolant under the truck. I brought the truck in on numerous occasions and they could not find the leak. on June 27th, one day before moving to Arizona. six star added bars leak to my engine and sent me on my way! my new mechanic has found the leak! the head gasket is leaking and six star will not stand behind there work! I am out $5500 read more
