Our Chevy Tahoe broke down at the entrance of Yosemite. We only waited 20 min for the tow down to the Shell Station. No other Mechanic around could help us replace our water pump. So Shelley made the time to fix it for us. His grandson drove our son back to Mammoth to get our other car on top of it. I wish there were more people like Shelley and his family. read more

We had a punctured tire and were recommended to go to Cory to get it repaired. He repaired it well, which allowed us to drive 200 miles home safely. And of course the tire is holding well. The cost was very reasonable. Cory is friendly, loves to help, and has an abundance of positive attitude/energy. My fellow photographer and I were about 15 minutes south of Lee Vining just off HWY 120 taking photos of the incoming storm when my SUV wouldn't start. We had two bars on our cell phones. I called AAA who finally pinpointed our location on a map. That info was relayed to the AAA contracted towing service in Lee Vining - the Shell Station. Thirty minutes passed and after checking my phone I noticed Cortney from Lee Vining Shell had been trying to call me - I hadn't heard the rings. Finally we connected and she had not been given our location. Once I told her, she knew immediately where we were. 15 minutes later she came driving over the hill, saw us and turned on her flashing hazard lights! The cavalry had arrived! LOL! Within a few minutes we were driving back (battery had been jumped) with the tow truck just behind. We pulled right into the Shell Service Station where Cortney's grandfather (owner of the station), came out and ran a diagnostic on my battery. All good so something else is wrong. We drove back across Tioga Pass to Fresno and home the next morning without ever turning off the ignition. Cortney and her grandfather are great people. Very nice and happy to help. The kind of people you feel you've known for years. Cortney even told us where to get a pizza! Suffice to say I highly recommend Shell Service in Lee Vining (just off HWY 395 on the east side of the road). I've attached one of my photos from that adventure. read more

Real friendly service when on camping trip had tire pressure light come on and panicked as was about to go into nowhere land and had big mileage coming. They determine there was no leak but one tire was below pressure and filled up and light was gone. No charge. Seems like a great business if passing through or reside in the area. read more

A local family owned fuel station, auto repair, and U-Haul rental center. The owners were very friendly and helpful with our trailer rental needs. It was a cool rainy June day and Shelley took care of hooking up the trailer so we could stay dry and warm in our vehicle. He set up our return with a couple extra days and an unknown site which makes it convenient to drop off at location closest to us. read more

This is the best service station and team work company I have dealt with in a very long time. We had a terrible flat tire on 4th of July, that's right the 4th. They were open and actually had the correct tire for my car. In no time flat the old tire was removed, the new tire was put on and we were on our way. As I sat waiting, I could hear the owner explaining to his young assistant what he was doing, why each step was important and how he could best serve the customer. What a treat!!! Add al that to a very fair price on the tire and I would drive to Lee Vining to replace the three other tires on my car when it is time. I can not say thank you enough!! read more

Me and my girl were down at grant lake beach and we got stuck in the mud. We were told to call this gas station. The number was given to us by an awesome woman we met. So my girl called the number and we got a gentleman on the phone she told him where we were and what happened and his response was " laughing at her and click he Hung up the phone. I guarantee we will make a trip to this gas station and make a formal complaint. If not we will take this to the corporate level. People in distress getting treat like this. Cannot say good enough things about these guys. We had bad car trouble coming down Tioga Road. They were unable to do anything mechanically because their mechanic was on vacation, but got us towed to their shop and gave us a list of the closest mechanics we could try. We were able to drive the car to Mammoth Lakes and get that problem fixed, only to have another crop up a day later. Again, Lee Vining Auto Repair (aka Shell) towed us to their shop, and Shelley went above and beyond to look at our problem, and solved it, saving us a very expensive tow and rental to get us all home. The shop may not be able to solve your problem, but it won't be for lack of caring or trying. Support this family business so it doesn't become some automated corporate kiosk! read more

This is a local family owned shop for the last 30+ years and it shows. The restrooms are always clean and stocked. The island is always picked up and clear of trash. The guys that come out to tow your car and get you out of the snow are friendly and knowledgeable. They always stay open late if you need something. The cashier ladies are friendly and efficient. They get you in and out of there quickly. Great place to take a break and get some snacks and gas, and the view from the back of the station overlooking Mono Lake is just gorgeous. Our family will always stop here when we are coming up to the High Sierras! read more

This place is excellent and highly recommended. We had really bad car trouble while on Yosemite N.P. so our car had to be towed to this shop. First, Corey, the tow truck driver, was so helpful, attentive and very resourceful. Then at the shop, Shelley took excellent care of us. He is the shop owner. He was an absolute angel. Because we were in a bind with our un drivable car, he lend us his van so that we could go back to our hotel in Yosemite and get our things. Keep in mind our hotel was 1 1/2 hr away from the auto shop. Not too many people would have done that. Also, after Shelley had looked at the car and gave us his opinion, he did not even charge us for the labor. Who does that? We would always be so grateful to Shelley, Corey and their team. Lee Vining is a tough place to have a car issue. I do believe that the owner of this Shell will help you. But, the owner helped the locals first (his prerogative) and admitted he FORGOT about us. SNOW - the 395 is a bad way to go no matter what- and snow makes it 10X more difficult. Snow chain signs following the biggest snow storm on record (12/22-1/23) are not to be messed with. The WORST SNOW was in Lee Vining. The 395 through town is NOT plowed. Why? Who knows, but the Shell Station is happy to sell chains for $130 and put them on for $40. The CALTRANS guys who plow and fix the local roads finally told me that I would be fine WITHOUT CHAINS. AS A MATTER OF FACT, their was NO SNOW on the roads leaving Lee Vining (North), and NO CHAINS NECESSARY. The owner of the Shell Station had to know this fact as he maintains the CALTRANS trucks, sells them diesel, and sells them gravel. After waiting over an hour for the chains, I left. Sadly, there was a humble (woman) who had a handicap placard and was around 65 years old who waited after I left and perhaps paid $170 for chains she did not need. 1. I was home towned; 2. The Shell is the only game; 3. There was an epic snow storm; 4. selling or trying to sell chains when none are necessary is NOT NICE. Very clean BATHROOMS. read more

The service is really nice here but they only have vpower gas which is the most expensive gas. The car did seem like it had very much power after we fed the gas to it. Could be a good place to meet people never know. They also have a nice selection of snacks. Lots of talking points could come up about the surrounding mono lake and eastern sierras. Really encourage this stop if your looking for some friends. If I have any regrets about my experience here its because I didn't reach out to the other potential gas filler pals I could have made. read more

Corey saved the day for us!! We had a flat tire about 15 miles out from lee vining and within 30 mins Corey showed up super helpful and knowledgeable about the fate of our tire. Due to a miscommunication at the shop a few mins later Daniel appeared too to help! After discovering our tire was irreparable they put on a new one for us and had us on our way in short order. Had a tire that was about to pop. They told us they had the tire in stock so we came in the next morning only for them to say they didn't have it. They called the store a half hour away and told us we'd have to go to get the tire ourselves but would have to wait. We did wait until 3pm that day. They didn't accommodate us for their mistake. Blew a water pump on my camper van a few miles from town and called for a tow. Driver arrived quickly, had me hooked up and back to the station in record time. They quickly diagnosed the problem and got the parts ordered. They set me up, let me plug in my van and I spent a day hiking the nearby trails and around Mono Lake. Everyone at the station was super friendly and it felt much more like I was hanging out with friends and family. They repaired the van for a very reasonable price and I was on my way. This is so much more than a gas station. We had planned our vacation for months and were finally headed up Tioga Pass to hike part of the John Muir Trail, when our van just quit. We called Shelly's Shell Station and they towed us to their lot. We had to order a part which took a couple of days to get. They let us stay in their lot (all hotels were full) use their spotless restrooms and helped us get on our way. They are an example of a great small business! read more
