Older man who works in the front was nice to everyone BUT me. (Update: The man who runs the store is known locally for being rude). He was laughing saying hello and goodbye to all other customers. I said a simple hi with a smile since he seemed kind to everyone else and was met with a monotone up and down look and no words back. He scanned my drink and tapped his finger repeatedly on the tap to pay. Then, threw my receipt away without asking if I wanted it. Then said "alright" and pointed at my drink. Honestly shocked at his lack of customer service with me compared to him with all the other customers. I grew up in this area so I immediately expect that it's because of the way I look, not many people are brown here and that's fine, I shouldn't be treated differently because of the way I look though. The man doesn't know anything about me besides what I look like, and he treated me way worse than all the customers. I work in customer service, I don't care if the customers before me were regulars or his best friends, under no circumstances do you treat a customer that way. All I wanted was a drink. read more

None of the pumps card readers worked, they just locked my card for 30 seconds then released it without doing anything. Then when I went to pay inside, there was neither an attendant nor a bell to notify them. Worst shell ever. read more

I was asked to show my Id for cigarettes and i just showed my license to the guy from my wallet as it was super difficult to get it out. the DOB was clearly visible. He said he needs to scan it, i said okay and while i tired to pull it out, i politely told him that the other employee just asks my DOB. This guy went berserk and started smashing his buttons telling me that he cannot input any numbers. By this time i had my Id taken out so as i was about to hand it to him he snatched it out of my hand which was it for me. He was being rude and if he thinks the job is too much for him, the owner should fire him and get someone who could respect having a job. The manager was not helpful at all when i called him to complain about this guy. the clark told me his name is Joe. Don't know if that true or not. He was nice to other people who were white and had a different attitude for me. I saw a lot of reviews saying the same thing. I hope the owner see's this and change the management. read more

Nothing overly special to report about this Shell station - except that it is located in beautiful Carmel, California. It was easy to find and it had a bathroom with a key hanging outside for customers. Inside was small but well-stocked with snacks and drinks and other goodies for the road if you are heading to, or back from Big Sur. read more

I must say, Yelp saved us. We couldn't find a gas station until I took out my iPhone and opened the Yelp app. Good thing I did, because this station is so hidden! Well, I'm giving it two stars for a few reasons: 1.) I really needed coffee, like good gas station coffee, and this is not the place where you can buy that or a ton of snacky-wackies or anything. It's for gassing up, and that's about it. Which is a shame, actually, since they ARE pretty much the only ones around. 2.) The gas pump was being wonky and kept stopping. Last time I checked, it doesn't take a master's degree to pump gas. (However, I've been wrong about things in the past.) Anyway, all ended up fine in the end, but they should totally take advantage of the fact that they are the only ones around! Other than that though, it's actually a really quaint station. There were some old 1950s pick-up trucks under an awning here, which I found adorable. read more

There is no service at this gas station. VERY RUDE AND AGGRESSIVE STAFF. I am not a resident of the United States so I have to pay cash first. And I am unfamiliar with the gas pump here, it is different from Canada, and the guy works here was VERY VERY RUDE to me, he ignored me for the first time I asked to pay cash for the gas, and then he blamed me "unbelievable" for not knowing how to use the pump. Love this location. Perfect place to get gas after picking up your mail at the Post Office. The best part about this gas station is that Eric Nystrom runs his auto shop onsite. Best service ever and surprisingly (hey you are in Carmel by the Sea) great rates too! read more

Never a line, which is the biggest factor by which I judge a gas station. On top of that, the prices aren't bad, and the service is good.

The only gas station I'm aware of in downtown Carmel - they are a great stop for gassing up before hitting the road. The station is a little cozy, sometimes getting in and out of the lot can be entertaining. But a great station otherwise! read more

Only station in town - no lines, slightly above average prices but very convenient.

The young guy that works here at night is just the absolute WORST employee you could ask for. I work nearby and stop here sometimes to grab gas or other things on my way home and EVERY time I come, this kid is ALWAYS on his phone; in his car, sitting on the bench smoking, even inside the store he sits there watching videos or whatever he does. Every single time I come and want something I have to go FIND HIM and then when I do he takes his sweet ass time getting up to go inside and help me. The whole while laughing at whatever is on his phone. Completely ignoring what I'm asking or saying. Look, I don't mind that he smokes on the job, I don't even mind if on his down time he does things on his phone, I'm reasonable, it gets slow sometimes here, especially at night. What I cannot stand and will not accept is when he realizes a customer is there he continues to watch his phone and gets up to help as slowly as humanly possible, does the transaction and slowly as possible and then laughs like it's totally cool. And it isn't just me that he does this to. I've witnessed it every single time I've come here. Work is work. Don't bring your friends to hang out, don't ignore a customer, and would it kill you to be present while you're in the middle of a transaction? He clearly does not care about this job at all. Maybe Shell should find another employee that WANTS to work, and this kid can go sit on his phone at home. read more

So convenient and gas is really not that pricy. Manager/owner as honest as the day is long.

There is one young young gentleman that works here that has always given me excellent service. He has always been very nice and welcoming. I've also seen him with other patrons and they always have pleasant conversations and interactions. I work in the hospitality business and he his a positive prime example of what great customer service is. Good hire!! Very quick. Not very busy. Gas prices here are a bit high though but probably the best you'd get in Carmel by the Sea.
