We had just finished hiking on one of the trails on Mt Tom and were in need of a cozy spot to drink something hot so we looked up on Yelp for the nearest area and found this spot. Just another occasion where Yelp came to the rescue. I had a small cup of their hot chocolate and asked that they switch the regular milk for almond and let me tell you it was probably one of the best hot chocolates I'd ever had. They used actual chocolate, not the powdery stuff so that when I drank it I could still see and taste small bits of it along with the christmas spice infused into it; I still can't get over how good it was. My brother had their cold brew and he enjoyed it as well saying it was up there on his list of favorites. As I looked at their list of sandwiches, I wish they had at least one on there that was without meat, but other then that; stellar experience. P.S. Upon entering my husband and I witnessed a "Karen" berating the counter staff. She was aggressive and argumentative. Her reason? They (like so many other restaurants in this climate) were out of an item on their menu. The sheer audacity this woman displayed in her demeanor was absolutely appalling. She continued her tirade throughout the whole interaction. After ordering and waiting for her food, she kept going on and on. Finally she tried to justify her actions and attitude on the fact that she was on her way to the hospital. No one, and I mean no one, cares about your life IF you think it's ok to go around treating ANYONE like this. You get no compassion. Grow up. The staff handled her amazingly. They remained calm and professional while she made a massive scene. I truly applaud the staff here for keeping their composure in such an awful situation. Will gladly be back! read more

Awful customer service and to make matters worse the drinks weren't even very good. My mom ordered a cafe au lait and the barista gave her a to go coffee cup and didn't explain that she had to go to the coffee pots and return her cup to the counter so they could froth her milk and add it to her drip coffee. We had a brief exchange since we thought she gave her the wrong cup since usually that's a drink made behind the counter like a latte, and we were trying to resolve the misunderstanding but overall the conversation was confusing, rude, and unintelligible. The other guy behind the counter was complaining the entire time very audibly for the entire shop to hear. read more

Absolutely terrible service. Sure the workers are nice, but definitely not quick. Did an online order and showed up 20 mins later to pick up. No orders in the cubby. There was no crowd waiting for food, very empty. The employees took this as time to catch up, play rock paper scissors, do their secret Santa pickings, and dance. What they didn't do was make my order. So 15 mins after my allotted pick up time, they decided was a good time to make my online order of 2 sandwiches. So in total close to 40mins of waiting. If this place existed while I was going to school at The Williston Northampton School, I most definitely would have "lived" here, instead of spending my time playing too many video games. Seriously, this place has all the basics you're looking for as far as good coffee across the board is concerned. They have a comfortable space to hang out in. I am surprised to learn this little coffeehouse is a part of a small chain, but just going there you wouldn't know it. This says something about this Western Massachusetts chain. The options are limited in the area for decent coffee early on a Saturday. Its a toss up between this place and dunkin across the street. read more

Terrible service. I waited 20 minutes for a cappuccino. I was the only person in there and there were FIVE people standing around behind the counter half asleep not doing anything but grunting to each other and shuffling around. I don't live in this area so when I'm around, I make it a point to stop here. Last Saturday, early afternoon, my boyfriend and I stopped in here to get some coffees and a snack. He ordered the red eye and I had a latte. Both coffees we're great and definitely warmed us up on a cold, rainy day. We also ordered a biscotti, mixed berry cookie and an m&m cookie. All the treats were delicious. The atmosphere inside is extremely comfortable and cozy. There are some really great pieces on the wall created by artists that are for sale. There's an assortment of chairs and tables to sit and relax. The woman who took our order was super friendly and prepared our drinks right away. She was even helpful when we went back to the counter to grab some of the cookies and biscotti available. She has a very pleasant demeanor. She made an excellent latte and clearly knows her coffee. This is the coffee shop of my dreams, seriously. This joint is like the coffee shop I would always imagine going to once I got to New England. It's very cozy and quirky. They've got about 4 tables spread around the edges of the room and a couple of couches too. In the middle of the room there are round tubs full of coffee beans. You can take your pick and put them in a bag to brew at home! Farther back, there's the cash register and the prep area. And behind that, there's self-serve coffee and a sugar-milk station. So all in all, it's a small place but it's truly the best coffee shop around. First of all, the employee that took my order was really friendly, very efficient (despite the fact that she was the only one working), and really helpful. I'm a big coffee fan but I don't know much about caffeinated drinks beyond the simple cup-of-joe. But she was really helpful in explaining certain differences to me to make sure I was ordering exactly what I wanted. And believe me, there's a lot to choose from. This place features a great menu with tons of drinks, both hot and cold. Espressos, lattes, chai, etc. But I've got to say, the pastries and the breakfast sandwiches are really what make this place stand out! I highly recommend the Noho. It's freaking delicious! It'll definitely be a go-to for breakfast from now on. This is definitely a place worth checking out, ideally more than once. read more

This is a nice relaxing little coffee shop. The website sucks, and didn't provide me with the information I was looking for. Luckily for you I have found the notes I jotted down to give you a good idea of this place. For starters, the coffee is imbued with magical powers... no, I'm serious. Just to name some of the magical powers: The Toasted Coconut Cream instills optimism; Hazelnut invites goodwill; Organic Mexican promotes clarity of perception; French Roast rouses boldness and courage; Colombian Supreme uproots realization of dreams. I personally didn't know which one to pick, so I mixed and matched them all, and I felt great! Nah, just F-in with ya... it was actually pretty terrible, and I wouldn't suggest it. One thing I disliked about this place was the Mr. Rogers painting on the wall. Another was the fact that you buy a cup and pour your own coffee; it was like going to a convenience store for coffee! The prices are average (poor for pouring my own coffee), but it's probably not a bad cup of coffee if you don't mix and match. Still, I am probably being generous giving them three stars. read more

I just moved to Easthampton, and SFCR is one of several coffee shops just around the corner from my apartment. I've been to all of them, and this is the only one where I really felt like sticking around. More so than at some other kinds of businesses, the people working at a coffee shop can really make or break your interest in coming back. I'm sure I haven't met everybody who works here, but so far everyone I've met has been very patient and kind. There seem to be a lot of regulars, some of whom come and go while others linger. Many of them are recognized by the employees, who say "I heard you've had a cold," or "did your friend ever find her cat?" It this were a big chain store, I'd be a little suspicious of the level of attention that is paid to each customer, but here I get the sense that these are just good people being good to each other. It's remarkable, too, because there is often just one person behind the counter handling many tasks at once. I know how difficult it can be to maintain a good mood while doing that. I'm all kinds of snobby, but I don't think my palate is all that well educated about good coffee. Maybe if I went to a Starbucks or drank Nescafe I'd be horrified, but I don't so who knows. What I can say is that SFCR's coffee is roasted nearby (in Greenfield, I think), and it seems to be fresh. Every day there are eight or so different brews on tap. The schedule of what brews are up each day repeats biweekly, so there's always a variety of options. I spoke to an employee about the schedule, and -if I remember this correctly- there's always one decaf, always a french roast, always a columbian, and always at least one organic fair trade coffee. There are also several flavored brews. Personally, I wish that there were more organic fair trade brews available every day. Since I'm not all that particular about the roast or the source (guatemalan, mexican, sumatran, etc.), I tend to just opt for whatever's fair trade. Another reviewer complained about having to pour your own coffee, but I really don't see what the big deal is. I actually like being able to casually select what I want and pour it just as I like it. You can also easily have a small taste of something if you're unsure about it - useful since the options are many. Since I drink my coffee there, I always grab a porcelain mug, which is $1 to fill and 25¢ to refill. Not bad! The other prices seem reasonable, too. In addition to coffee, SFCR has a pretty wide assortment of bagels and pastries that are made up at their Greenfield shop. They also make some good smoothies, and they sell a bunch of bottled drinks, too. They sometimes seem to sell out of some things, but that's probably a sign that what they have is replenished often and doesn't just sit around going stale. I work from home via my laptop, and I can easily pick up and come to SFCR for a while when I need a change of scenery. I'm going to try not to camp out there too much, but I'm really glad to have a nice place to go so close to my apartment. Your milage may vary, but this is one of my favorite places in downtown Easthampton. read more

I can come here with my lap top and get some business done. The local art is kitschy but understandable. The Easthampton cafe is definitely the best of all the Shelburne's because the service is so quick and genuine. I cannot drink any other kind of coffee because I need all the optimism coconut coffee offers. read more

Cute and quiet. Not a place I would recommend though for dietary issues. Nothing on the menu is well labeled. For instance "Fruit Smoothie" is given a small or large and flavors "strawberry, banana, raspberry, blueberry." No mention of what's in it (aside from the selected fruit option.) I got a double americano. It came in a small - I guess I'm used to getting the size proportional to the espresso shots. Nice that they had soy and almond milks on the coffee prep line. I arrived at 4:25 on a Friday. They close at 5. When I got there several patrons were about. Someone behind the counter acknowledged me almost immediately with a "be right with you." "No problem" I replied. After making me wait about 5 minutes someone comes over. I attempt to order a breakfast sandwich. Pretty easy to accomplish since most of the ingredients are already premade. Toast a bagel, heat up what's in it, slap it together. The person behind the counter replies "sorry we juuusstt closed the kitchen." I ask "so you closed the kitchen during the time that I have waiting here?" "Yeaaahhh sorrrryyy" was my response. Wow. They saw me standing there, acknowledged my presence, then made me wait while they closed the kitchen. On top of this terrible experience my previous visit (which was in the morning) they couldn't manage to toast the bagel of my breakfast sandwich. There are many good options in town. This is my first time in Easthampton. I'm in town visiting a friend, well, she doesn't get off work this Christmas eve until 1pm so I went for a little walk, book in hand, looming for a nice quiet and relaxing place to read and relax. I found Shelbourne Falls Coffee Roasters. You walk in and it feels like you've stepped into an old friend's living room. The staff was friendly, made my triple soy latte quickly and with a smile. I walked to the back to find a few more couches in a nice quiet and warmly lit room in which to relax. As I sipped my drink and read my book I looked around to notice the wifi password written on a chalkboard. Excellent. I used the restroom and found it quite clean. It seems that the staff knew a handful of the customers by name lending credit to this inviting small town establishment. I travel a lot and visit many coffee houses and this rates very high among the rest. It being a local roaster gets it a few extra points as I always try to stay away from national chains.
