Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the young lady working there. She was very friendly, knew exactly what I was talking about, and knew exactly where it was! That is a lot to ask in today's world! Good customer service is hard to find! So if you're looking for magazines and papers that other places don't usually have, give this place a try. I was pleasantly surprised!

Extra Extra is one of the first stores I started frequenting at HUB Mall, even before I was a…read morestudent at the U of A. It is a small newsstand with magazines and newspapers from North America and around the world. I always found the selection be good, and purchased quite a few music magazines here. It also sells cold drinks and snacks like chocolate bars and chips. The store is very small and gets cramped when it is busy so best not to hang out there too long reading the magazines.

International News is a decent little news stand…read more It's located in a corner of the Kingsway Mall (next to the Second Cup) so it's pretty hard to find unless you're actively searching for it. I come here if I need a quick refreshment, some gum, or something to read when I'm waiting for my sisters to finish shopping at the mall. They have a good selection of newspapers and magazines. The great thing about it is that they have some foreign newspapers and magazines as well. So you might even find a newspaper from your home country if you're lucky! The foreign magazines are a tad expensive, but that makes sense since they have to import them.

You would be better of finding magazines at a bigger drugstore. The attendant wasn't the friendliest, he didn't say a thing to me but just looked at me, which was pretty awkward since the store is small enough to only fit like 5 people.

It profiles local talents, local products, and local events. The only thing I don't like about Avenue is it tends to cater to people with large disposable incomes. The products that are advertised are usually high end products. I like reading Avenue to keep up on my city. They are free and you can check out the website to see where you can pick one up.

With print going into decline thanks to the Internet, the Metro is the only newspaper in Edmonton that I feel has merged the two mediums together. I think of it as a Digital-Print Magazine. They plug in highlights from their social media outlets (like Twitter feeds) into sidebars on the newspaper, which I find useful since I use Twitter very often. If you want to take the paper along with you without physically carrying the paper, you can use your smart phone to scan the QR Code (kind of like a barcode) that let's you access a particular section of the newspaper instantly from your cellphone. I think that's pretty neat. You can also download and view the day's newspaper from their website as well, if you like. I like the articles they write, too. They all seemed very relevant and I could relate to them very easily. Lots of good tech news as well.

The articles are nothing of real interest. I don't even really see the point of this newspaper. With papers like Vue Weekly and See Magazine, I don't understand how Metro survives. I think that people like the idea of the free paper but once they pick it up, they are grossly disappointed.

It is a good paper for keeping up with the community and letting you know what's new.

Mostly focusing on community news, the Examiner features interesting events, people, and places in Edmonton. There is a large Classifieds section with people buying and selling things, looking for work or looking for workers, and offering services. It is delivered by the same people who deliver flyers, so areas without a flyer delivery person will not receive one. Fortunately, there are also copies available in grocery stores and libraries.

The Gateway helps pass so much time when you are at the U of A. I have seen recent copies of the paper and am glad to note the more sophisticated feel it has now, both in terms of the writing and layout. Back in my day, things were very irreverent to the point of being insulting, and in fact, that was a reason I left the paper after only my second year of university. A campus paper should push the edges of controversy, but it is possible to go too far, and student journalists sometimes don't have the maturity or experience to admit they made a mistake. However, I am glad to see the paper thriving.

I would rather have given away the books if I knew I would get so little. On top of that, he slipped me a folded 20 that was totally ripped in half inside some 5s. Cool stuff. Will not go back. To be fair I could've said no after the offer and I could have opened the money and told him it was ripped but the way it was done seemed intentional.
