The magazine takes more of a liberal stance, as its audience consists mainly of a 20-35 age demographic. The best part about Vue is their focus on the arts scene in Edmonton. Whatever is news in film, music, or performing arts, they have it covered. Find towards the back of the magazine their weekly lists of art galas, live music performances and concerts, movie and play listings, as well as plenty of reviews on new films and shows as well. There may be no funny comics section or half-naked Sunshine Girl/Boy to wake you up in the morning, but it's still a great alternative to the mainstream print media out there. Plus, it's free and you can usually find one of their magazine dispensers around town, especially around campus.

They aren't afraid to have opinions when they right their articles and it doesn't feel as if they are censoring themselves. Some other papers just display the facts without giving any real opinion on what is going on, but Vue has a backbone. It gets risky when it needs too. I still think See is a bit better when it comes to talking about local events but Vue is a great read and not bad to browse through.

It profiles local talents, local products, and local events. The only thing I don't like about Avenue is it tends to cater to people with large disposable incomes. The products that are advertised are usually high end products. I like reading Avenue to keep up on my city. They are free and you can check out the website to see where you can pick one up.

You can't talk to anyone in person whichever phone number you call. All you can do is call the number and press a bunch of keys and then they tell you your account will be credited for the missed paper which never happens. My next plan of action will have to be me going to the actual building and cancel their sorry ass. I've been a subscriber for 30 years and the service has just been getting worse all the time. Alas, I had no book, no magazine, no Edmonton Journal, so this was (not really) the next best thing. So why do I hate 24 Hours so much? It is pointless. It has very little information. I would say on average, it has maybe 50 articles through weekly the entire paper. Fifty! There are small blurbs on celebrities and this is really the only part I read. Other than that, the stories are not very up to date and show no real urgency. These papers, like other failing free magazines (Metro News) are floating around the city pointlessly. There are stacks and stacks of these papers laying around, and they will continue to lay around because they are not interesting to read. Sure. Pick one up to distract yourself while munching down on that turkey and ham sub, but don't go looking for them. Even if you did, they are easy to find because they are everywhere!

Mostly focusing on community news, the Examiner features interesting events, people, and places in Edmonton. There is a large Classifieds section with people buying and selling things, looking for work or looking for workers, and offering services. It is delivered by the same people who deliver flyers, so areas without a flyer delivery person will not receive one. Fortunately, there are also copies available in grocery stores and libraries.

The Gateway helps pass so much time when you are at the U of A. I have seen recent copies of the paper and am glad to note the more sophisticated feel it has now, both in terms of the writing and layout. Back in my day, things were very irreverent to the point of being insulting, and in fact, that was a reason I left the paper after only my second year of university. A campus paper should push the edges of controversy, but it is possible to go too far, and student journalists sometimes don't have the maturity or experience to admit they made a mistake. However, I am glad to see the paper thriving.

I asked to get transferred to the distribution center for resolution, but was denied every time. As a last last resort, I requested to cancel his subscription. They told me no problem, the last paper would be delivered in 3 weeks, as he is prepaid until then. When I asked what paper that would be as he hasn't seen anything for the last 2 months. No apologies, no way to refund his money. No wonder newspapers are a dying business.

While I don't live in Sherwood Park I do work here so I like to know what's going on and what is…read morenew and exciting in the county. I will say for a small local paper the Sherwood Park news does and amazing job of doing just that. The articles are just the right size for taking the paper on the bus while still providing enough detail to make it feel like the subject matter was adequately reported on. I also love that the paper is chalk full of stories that pertain to just the area with limited mention of Edmonton and Edmonton related stories. With Sherwood Park sitting so close to Edmonton's borders I know many look at it as just another part of Edmonton when in reality it is it's own community with a unique personality all it's own. Also there is a lovely balance of harder subject matter and feel good stories. With things in Alberta sadly being the way they are currently it's easy to get caught up in doom and gloom happenings but you can also flip open the paper here and read wonderful things about the holiday fundraiser for the women's shelter and the province providing funding to Strathcona Transit to buy more busses. The Sherwood Park news is a great five star local paper to get informed about Strathcona County whether your a citizen or just visiting like myself.
