I don't mind the bounce but like other reviewers have written, it has gone mainstream. I think this was destined from the start, but ahh well. The music isn't bad, but there is a lot that they play that I hate. I do like the radio personalities they have on in the morning. Pepper & Dylan used to annoy me a lot, but now I like listening to them on my early morning drive. Truth is, I switch back and forth between this station and Hot 107, but I prefer this station to Hot 107 because it has local hosts, unlike Hot 107 that has Ryan Seacrest hosting from god knows where.

I think Hot 107 plays a better selection of music and they change it up from pop to r&b to hip hop often so it keeps things fresh. They also have less commercials. They are unmatched when it comes to their hot mix remixes. I actually prefer them to my IPod while driving. Which is a big deal for me because I need good music while I drive. Every hour they have Cruz Control where listeners can vote on the website or app for the song of the hour between 3 songs. The app has concert information, song lists, and contests through their Cruz Club. They give away concert tickets, but they had awesome contests giving away 3 cruises; Caribbean, European, and the KISS cruise, and trips to Antigua! The radio personalities are great, and Claire in the afternoons often makes me laugh with her chat. She's really engaged on social media and texting too. Love this radio station while working, exercising, or in the car!

SONiC 102.9 is the freshest sounding commercial radio station in Edmonton. It is a Modern Rock…read morestation which means that no classic rock or current mainstream nausea is allowed. For the most part. They are owned by Rogers Communications, so they're not as "indie" as they probably want us to think they are. So unfortunately, bands like Green Day, Blink 182, and Offspring still claim squatter's rights on SONiC's airwaves. Garner Andrews' morning radio show transcends the other stations' wacky morning zoo crews. Andrews is laid-back and natural, and I enjoy his off-beat sense of humour. His "salute to substandard service" and the "Bring Back Pie" movement are funny stand-outs. Garner Andrews (to my knowledge) has never staged a sex act with a stripper and leaked the video online for publicity like another Edmonton morning DJ whose name rhymes with Ball Gown. One thing I don't like about SONiC is how they ignore their roots. There were a lot of bands from the '80s that spawned the type of music that SONiC plays, such as The Smiths or Hüsker Dü that the station doesn't ackowledge. They rarely ever play anything pre-1990s. The '90s are oldies for them. I know they're called "Modern Rock" but that's just a stupid industry adjective to describe a genre that we used to refer to as "Alternative." If you're sick of hearing "Stairway to Hotel California" on K-97 and the Bear is testing your sanity, turn it to SONiC. You will probably discover some new music that you will like.

I came to this actual building for a tour of their music library as part of an Edmonton Public Library Learn Downtown event and was wowed about the purpose-built space. The music collection is lovely and there really is more space down here than I expected. This area isn't normally open to the public but it is essential for the DJs preparing their setlists. We also saw some really great old-fashioned media. I wish I could have stayed longer and seen more. I'm super happy to have been able to visit the music library and get an even greater appreciation for one of my all-time favourite radio stations.

They have a good vestibule area for people entering the building and for launch events this is filled with vendors. There was merch tables and drink options when we were there. No food but they had free snacks - hard pretzels and chocolate covered strawberries. Entrance Fee was $20 it's cash only. So don't spend your only money on a CD then head out to Jasper Ave to find a cash machine like me. Inside it's pretty and the twinkling fairy lights make the space really appealing. There is lots of room for high tables and audience seating, as well as standing area in front of the stage. A great space for about 80 people. Cool place to hang and watch live music.

Located just off Stony Plain Road in the complex that also houses CTV (across the street from Walmart). The parking lot is a little stranger and basically behind the building and off to the side (West if you are standing on Stony Plain Road and looking at the building). They have an intercom buzzer system here to get in, so don't stand at the door confused like me; come to think of it, I think this is the only radio station in town where I had to be "buzzed" in. They do tons of giveaways on air and some pretty significant ones, too. Like the current Spring KaChing where they give away 5K 5 times a day to caller 30 - Yep, it's that simple! Now, all I have to do is actually get through on the phone.

K97 and Capital FM getting ownership from NewCap to Stingray in 2018 was a bust and canning Melissa Wright after so many years was a dirty move. Terry and Pete is an ad-filled snooze fest morning compared to Terry/Bill/Steve 10 years ago The worst part is the repetitiveness, every hour is the same garbage pop music by The Tragically Hip, The Beatles, and Queen. Every few hours you might hear something finally good off of Led Zeppelin IV or The Wall, then back to more repetitive pop music. It's not a rock station if you hear Stairway to Heaven, Comfortably Numb, etc once every 2-3 days yet hear Bohemian Rhapsody what seems like 4x daily. It's seriously a stretch to call "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles, "Lucy in the sky with Diamonds", and half the whiny music the Tragically Hip play as rock music. You can clearly tell these guys are milking The Tragically Hip to hit CanCon minimums, 5 years ago they would play BTO twice an hour and now instead it's Tragically Hip twice an hour. Try playing Chilliwack, Streetheart, Prism, etc more to hit those CanCon minimums Only thing that makes K97 bearable anymore is Rock of the West at night when people request actual good music, otherwise I have Spotify on until 7pm

With the internet, most people can just find the answer. I also liked Shane Michaels with the afternoon show. They have the Hall of Fame weekends and will play songs from featured artists. I became bored with the repeated songs, and found a new radio station that is now my main one. I will still listen to CapFM when nothing is good on the other station I tune into. They also have a great listener club that you can accumulate points and redeem for event tickets.
