I went to CityTV's Fall Launch party for the 2013/14 season and it was a blast! They held it at the Art Barns (FYI, not called the Trans Alta Barns any more). They had a 90 minute cocktail hour with open bar and featuring Monte Scroppino, which I love! There was a good turn out of people, however there seemed to be a lot of Rodgers employee's (as there should be) but it was a bit overwhelming the employee's to non employee's ratio. After the cocktail mingle part was over everyone filed into the theatre at the Barns to see launch (and this is where I get super excited!!)
Bridget and Ryan of BT Edmonton hosted the event and as you can imagine, were hilarious! They chatted the audience up and got us really excited to see the new shows that everyone will be watching come September. The video started and low and behold it was the taping of the Toronto Fall Launch from earlier that day: Chalked full of legit celebrities from the US that were flown in for the event, performances from Tegan and Sara, and many, many, MANY speeches from all the heads of Rodgers Media. Now, I personally find all this quite interesting and love hearing where they are taking Rodgers and its various parts, how they are competing with the competition and evolving in the Canadian market. But a fall launch is normally around 30minutes, this was close to or even over 75! And, it was so pitch black that people were fumbling to find their way out when they needed the loo! So, perhaps a little side or back lighting would be nice. Also, the chatter after the presentation was really heavy on how "Toronto-centric" it was (not a surprise!) So if any execs from TO read this, ya, there is a whole other country past the GTA out there, so keep it tight and light on how 'awesome' you are when you know that you are going to broadcast to every affiliate in Canada.
After the showing everyone was really excited to chat about what they saw, the shows that are coming and how they will fair - and to get another drink! Century Hospitality was on-hand to cater, which is always lovely, however, the little canapes were not really doing it for most people after such a long showing. It probably would have worked better if the food circulated before instead of after. All in all it was a wonderful event. I absolutely loved being there and it really gave me a renewed sense of how Canuck cool Rodgers, City and all its various parts are. Not gonna lie, I had goosebumps of pride watching the bit on Hometown Hockey and what it means to Canadians!
Way to go Rodger and City. You really wowed me! read more
