But of course we can't forget about the supporting cast of Nicola, Su-Ling and Julie. I enjoy Nicola's humour and wits while delivering the weather, and the journalism from Su-Ling and Julie as they cover health and consumer issues. If there's one thing that could be improved, it's the Sports segment. It's too focused on the local teams here in Edmonton. Covering local teams here is fine but if none of the Edmonton teams are playing, there is barely any sports segment. In fact, I'm pretty sure when they 'Hawks won the Stanley Cup last season, they spent about 5 seconds on it. As a sports fan, it'd be nice if they could at least cover the main headlines of the day.

Now Global has a one up when it comes to comedy shows but CTV has LOST. In my opinion it is one of the best shows of all time. It also carries American Idol which is the most watched show of the decade, so you can see what I mean. I also believe it is going to be the broadcaster for the Olympics this year so it will probably be the most watched local station this year.

I love my country and all, but not al ot happens here in terms of interesting news. I'm more concerned with what goes on outside because I've spent most of my life outside Canada. I think they could have done a better job with the Winter Olympics coverage. Their commentary was juuuustttt a bit too biased for our country during certain events. But I didn't mind that one bit during the men's hockey final of course.

Not always able to get on tv or radio but when I have it's for super dope or important things. The radio reflects the real people and what they think about so many things. As Edmonton changes so do the people and this guys are keeping up with it! It does need a little more diversity but I think they are slowly getting there. Rob and Audie have their morning show and are veterans in the business. They should get rid of the Morning Mindbender though. They ask a question and have people calling in with their guess. With the internet, most people can just find the answer. I also liked Shane Michaels with the afternoon show. They have the Hall of Fame weekends and will play songs from featured artists. I became bored with the repeated songs, and found a new radio station that is now my main one. I will still listen to CapFM when nothing is good on the other station I tune into. They also have a great listener club that you can accumulate points and redeem for event tickets.

Anyone can work at the radio station, you can even work on getting your own show! They have equipment and support, mentors and veterans who can help you learn anything you want about radio. I want to learn how to write ads for radio, record them and edit them. I want to learn how the gear is all setup, how to record a session when an artist comes in and how to be a DJ. All of this is available to me, all DJs are volunteers and pretty passionate about being there at all hours. They contribute in many ways, and are approachable and helpful. If someone wants music they are in the wrong place. the morning show starts the broadcast day and is a very good morning show. the talent isnt big name, but they have fun together and they love sports and it shows. its a very very easy listen even if you arent a fan of the local teams then the station feeds us some jim rome which i cant handle so i change the channal, but alot of people like jim rome. to each their own, and a station needs to appeal to different tastes. the lunch hour and the hour after are focused on the oilers and this is the bread and butter of the market place. oilers rule the city's interest and these 2 hours of show have a heavy mix of 'insider' info and outsider opinion too. then comes a 4 hour block with a guy that is totally tapped into the local market. the station would be better off if it had the rights to broadcast oiler games in the evenings but those rights are owned by the competition. instead the station fills the evening with out of market programming most nights. they do have a wonderful prospects show on tuesdays though... its outstanding. and to close the night from 9-12 is a very easy listening local show that includes alot of highlights from the day for those who missed them first time around. overnight is just american syndicated programming... which along with the fact that the team doesnt have the oiler rights brings my overall score down to just 4 stars... but the morning show... the the 2 hours at lunch time... the prospects show... the saturday afternoon show... are all 5 star in my opinion. for a small market all-sports format, you cant really find a better station then this one and imo it holds its own against even the best all-sorts channals youd find in toronto or vancouver or anything ive ever heard from the usa too.

They carry edmonton oil kings broadcasts as well. At midnight they have jim rome rebroadcasts. Also they have the most ads i've ever heard on a radio station. Probably like 8 minutes of ads for every 10 minutes of programming.

Their tag line is actually "Safe and fun for the whole family." You can have the radio on and not worry about your kids (or someone else's kids) hearing songs that glorify drinking, drugs and sex. It's positive music. I always enjoy the morning show when I'm getting ready for school. You know those people who tell lame jokes and make puns but you still love them because they are funny in their own right? That's Johnny Rocket and Malcolm Hunt. They are so much fun! They always have great trivia and they always make me laugh. I've called into to Shine and they are as nice on the phone as they are on air.
