They are unmatched when it comes to their hot mix remixes. I actually prefer them to my IPod while driving. Which is a big deal for me because I need good music while I drive. Gods below, people (and the radio station) claim Shannon has an infectious laugh, but anyone can tell when a person forces a laugh, and she is the Queen of that department. She tries to do these 'mix tapes' which are nothing but the same repeat garbage they would have played anyway. It doesn't help she often enjoys singing the last bit of some songs. yeah, if I wanted karaoke, I would visit Lee Gardens. Duncan is tolerable. Thank the gods I don't have to listen to this on weekends. Onto the music. It's tired, boring, repeats, oops! I mean 'Edmonton's Greatest Hits', of songs everyone has heard a million times. I don't know how anyone can enjoy listening to the same 3 or 4 tunes by Queen, Alanis Morissette, Rush, Nickelback, and the plethora of overplayed music at damned near the same time everyday. You could probably set your watch to it. All in all, now and then they will play something half decent, but it isn't worth it.

Jason and Kari's morning show is ok but not my first choice. I like listening to the Charlee Morgan and Robbin Reay shows from 9AM to 6PM. I feel like I know them but not too personal details. Robbin has the 4 o'clock showdown and you can vote between 3-4 for which song you like better. I'm not a fan of the evening DJ though as she seems to repeat herself with stories of her kids and husband, or random information she's found on the internet. She sounds like she would much rather be with her family than on the radio until midnight on weeknights and on the weekends. They have a No Way or Let it Play that listeners can suggest a song they don't usually play and people can vote if they want to Let it Play until the end. I like the music and most of the time it leaves me feeling Up!

Every hour they have Cruz Control where listeners can vote on the website or app for the song of the hour between 3 songs. The app has concert information, song lists, and contests through their Cruz Club. They give away concert tickets, but they had awesome contests giving away 3 cruises; Caribbean, European, and the KISS cruise, and trips to Antigua! The radio personalities are great, and Claire in the afternoons often makes me laugh with her chat. She's really engaged on social media and texting too. Love this radio station while working, exercising, or in the car!

With the internet, most people can just find the answer. I also liked Shane Michaels with the afternoon show. They have the Hall of Fame weekends and will play songs from featured artists. I became bored with the repeated songs, and found a new radio station that is now my main one. I will still listen to CapFM when nothing is good on the other station I tune into. They also have a great listener club that you can accumulate points and redeem for event tickets.

SONiC 102.9 is the freshest sounding commercial radio station in Edmonton. It is a Modern Rock…read morestation which means that no classic rock or current mainstream nausea is allowed. For the most part. They are owned by Rogers Communications, so they're not as "indie" as they probably want us to think they are. So unfortunately, bands like Green Day, Blink 182, and Offspring still claim squatter's rights on SONiC's airwaves. Garner Andrews' morning radio show transcends the other stations' wacky morning zoo crews. Andrews is laid-back and natural, and I enjoy his off-beat sense of humour. His "salute to substandard service" and the "Bring Back Pie" movement are funny stand-outs. Garner Andrews (to my knowledge) has never staged a sex act with a stripper and leaked the video online for publicity like another Edmonton morning DJ whose name rhymes with Ball Gown. One thing I don't like about SONiC is how they ignore their roots. There were a lot of bands from the '80s that spawned the type of music that SONiC plays, such as The Smiths or Hüsker Dü that the station doesn't ackowledge. They rarely ever play anything pre-1990s. The '90s are oldies for them. I know they're called "Modern Rock" but that's just a stupid industry adjective to describe a genre that we used to refer to as "Alternative." If you're sick of hearing "Stairway to Hotel California" on K-97 and the Bear is testing your sanity, turn it to SONiC. You will probably discover some new music that you will like.

If you're entertained by cheap, immature publicity stunts, then you'll love Paul Brown's morning show. The Bear plays all the usual radio filler fluff like Nickelback, Green Day, Linkin Park, Nickelback, Nickelback, and Nickelback. I read that back in the late '70s, radio stations used to advertise "Bee Gee Free Weekends". Radio stations today need to implement such a promotion regarding Nickelback. In 1966, dozens of radio stations held bonfire parties for burning Beatles records. So far, no station (that I know of) has done such a thing for Nickelback. The Bear could gain a lot of street cred for this. Let's go! Anyway, the station plays a few classic rock songs too, but it's always the same obligatory "You Shook Me All Night Long with a Whole Lotta Love because there was Another Brick in the Wall" stuff. The usual. The only great thing about The Bear is Yukon Jack's "My Big Yap" segment. That is gold. I hear his commentaries and think to myself, "how can this guy work at a station that he should be making fun of?" If you're seriously a fan of rock music, get satellite radio.

The music isn't bad, but there is a lot that they play that I hate. I do like the radio personalities they have on in the morning. Pepper & Dylan used to annoy me a lot, but now I like listening to them on my early morning drive. Truth is, I switch back and forth between this station and Hot 107, but I prefer this station to Hot 107 because it has local hosts, unlike Hot 107 that has Ryan Seacrest hosting from god knows where.

I think Hot 107 plays a better selection of music and they change it up from pop to r&b to hip hop often so it keeps things fresh. They also have less commercials.
