The newspaper consists mostly of sports articles and ads for used cars. Terrible problems with home delivery. Customer service hard to come by.
Several red neck journalists write outrageous articles for the Sun to help sell papers. Fortunately, there are a few other Sun writers who appear to have actual training in journalism. I buy the paper for the two or three pages of local news which I can read with my morning coffee.
I ordered a subscription from a cold call. It was to start January 2015 and end March 2015. An agent called to confirm that it would end. I agreed. Papers kept coming after March 2015. Another agent called to confirm the subscription should end. Again, I agreed. Papers kept coming. I called to cancel. Papers kept coming. Then I got a heavy-duty letter from the Sun ordering me to pay up for the extra newspapers that I got beyond March 2015 !
Proofreading is non-existent throughout the paper. There are many typos daily in addition to poor grammar and sentence structure. Sometimes, stories are repeated twice in the same edition. Excellent paper to use when teaching high school students about good writing skills, especially when you need to give lots of examples of poor writing.
If subscribing, or if you are already a subscriber and have problems, DO NOT call the subscription phone number noted in the Edmonton Sun. The number is listed as "Home Delivery/Customer Service 780-468-5121."
To save money, phone calls to that number are bounced to a call centre in the Caribbean. Several agents I spoke to there were incompetent. The last one I spoke to sounded like she was building a coffee table while we spoke. She could not explain why there was construction noise in the background.
After numerous calls and emails elsewhere, I finally got the Edmonton Sun office of the manager that looks after subscriptions. After a long chat with an assistant, screw-ups with my home delivery were ironed out. I accepted their apology. I renewed with a big discount.
DO NOT use the online service to start/stop delivery. Apparently it does not work. I now have a direct contact in the subscription department. I email start/stop requests for home delivery or I call that person directly.
DO NOT accept the first deal you are offered on a cold call for home delivery. Negotiate for something sweeter.
TIP: It appears certain loonies (possibly the newer, lighter ones) will not work in the street boxes. Hit the coin return to try to get your money back. read more
