Did you know you can request something you are looking for, and they WILL watch for it and let you know when it comes in?! I didn't until one day thought I'd poke around their website. I posted a request for a bird book (Birds of Alberta). I had been looking for since mine had gone missing some time ago. Well what do you know - a few weeks later, they CALLED ME and let me know that they had the book I requested on hold and waiting for me. They have fabulous hours, great staff, and prices are really good too. I parked right out front, but because it was a Friday night at 10:30pm when I went to pick up, they offered to walk me to my car... it's Whyte Avenue, and later on it can be a bit... well, uncomfortable for women alone. Who DOES that anymore?! I REALLY appreciated the offer and concern for my well- being. I love coming in here to browse - and I admit, in the past couple of years of pandemic, I haven't spent any time in any business. At that time of night, and with fewer crowds on a Friday night, I might just have to come and browse again soon. I absolutely adore the shelves of previously-loved tomes! There's something worth obtaining in pretty much every direction I looked, from old favorites of yesteryear to new releases that I needed even more. The prices are as good as the selection. The cat that lords over the place, crawling over the shelves and piles of things, absolutely makes the Wee Book In even more special than it ought to be. Only good words thus far; what drags down my rating? Sadly, so sadly, I have to report that it's the employees. We've come by several times to see the counter help ignore the customers whilst having a good chat amongst themselves, or coldly and dismissively treat would-be remitters of the coin of the realm, and have them walk out the door. What all that attitude you'd think there were no bookstores near-by, nor any place online to choose instead. I have yet to buy anything here, but not for want of trying. Disdain to those who ask questions doesn't make other customers who witness the scene want to patronise your business. I randomly come into this store. A few times I've bought their discounted books when they have their outdoor book sales during the Fringe Festival. Their prices are a lot cheaper compared to buying brand new and their books are in good condition. A lot of current and popular bestsellers can be found here. You might be able to find the same book for less at Value Village or Goodwill, but finding a particular book requires some luck, at any of these stores. But with patience and perseverance, you can and will find a deal, if you're willing to wait for it. Overall, I find there's a wide selection of books from a variety of genres here. The store is clean and well organized into genres. There are some pretty unique books available. It's definitely worth coming in to see what you might like to read. read more

There are a few locations of the Wee Book Inn, I believe this one is the biggest and it does have a great selection of used books. It's a very chilled out place and nice to wander around and look at all the different books they have on display. It's open pretty late so if you are out for a walk or to grab a coffee it's a nice spot to pop in for a heat (in winter) and browse. The music is usually great and it makes you want to stay for hours - not to mention the cat! Each location has their own resident cat and the one on Whyte is so gorgeous! We've bought and sold books here. They are picky about which ones they buy which is a good thing! They won't take any that are in real bad condition. My husband usually looks for different science fiction book series to try out and this place has a LOT to choose from. They also sell records too. read more

This great little used book store on Whyte seems to stay open till midnight most nights so it's a nice place to stop on your way home after dinner or drinks. The friendly bookstore cat Fleur will likely be found wandering the aisles or snoozing on a pile of books. She doesn't seem too eager to be petted by strangers but isn't disturbed by admiration from a respectable distance. The store is on two floors and is well organized by category, and I am rarely able to leave without picking up something. I went back to Wee Book Inn today to sell a whole box of books I had. My books were in pretty good condition too, barely any marks, almost brand new. But I still didn't manage to sell them for much, only $18 for 11 books. Booo ... I've made off with much more than that at other bookstores outside of Edmonton. I did take a closer look at their DVD collection though, and they have some pretty good stuff. Some are brand new, and most are new and recent movies and tv series. Being a major Sex and the City fan, I was excited to see they had several dvd's, one of them being the complete first season set for cheaper than eBay! I would have snatched it up by now, but I plan on saving up for the whole box set. So for all my fellow Sex and the City fans, it might still be there ... So while Wee Book Inn isn't too great for selling books, it's great for picking up quality books and DVD's for real cheap. Why pay full price when you don't have to? read more

Wee Book Inn locations usually feature a cat and helpful employees as well as a good variety of books of many different genres. This location has two floors: upstairs there are more older books, discount books and magazines, and other genres that you may not find downstairs. The Whyte Avenue location is large (it has two levels), bright, and spacious. The books range from popular softcovers to history to comic books to a wide variety of magazines (including ones of an adult nature). You can find some pretty good deals here if you look hard enough. If you are in the market to sell some books and CDs, Wee Book Inn can help you out - but don't expect to make much. Wee Book Inn is usually the last place I head after checking out a few others, simply because they do not pay as much. However, if you are in a hurry to clear out the clutter, Wee Book Inn is quite broad in what they will accept. I wish I lived closer to Whyte, because I would literally be in Wee Book Inn every weekend. I could spend hours in a book store -- and this one is no exception. The store is very well laid out. It is really easy to find a book you are looking for. They also have a great selection. This store is filled to the brim, and you can find some very unique books here. When my sister and I were here today, we found a book that had pictures and a bio of Vanity Fair photo shoots. It was pretty cool. They also have a selection of Vinyl records and magazines. We even found a Playboy from 1973! I thought that was pretty funny. This bookstore is the home of a very, very cute cat. I posted a picture of him (or her?) just to show how cute she (he?) is. It is clear that at one point the cat was homeless, because I am pretty sure that he (she?) is missing half of her (his?) nose. The prices here are amazing. I found a book for $0.50, but stuff can get expensive if it is a collector item or it is rare. (I also found a dictionary here for $566). I would recommend this book store to any book lover, but chances are, if you are a true book worm, you already know about Wee Book Inn, and you have already been there! read more

Tonight I had unfortunate experience with the Wee Book Inn. Let me tell you the whole story. A couple of weeks ago, I went in, purchased $81.32 worth of books, only to discover that they had sold me a book I already had. In fact, I had previously requested that book, and had picked it up about two weeks before this trip. I phoned immediately after getting home and talked to an employee, Dan maybe? I told him the situation, and he told me to just bring it back with the receipt and I could exchange it for a book of the same value. I let him know I would do the exchange next time that I purchased books, and he said that would be fine. He didn't give a timeline or anything for the exchange, so I assumed that as long as I was within 30 days would be fine. Fast forward to tonight, I had received a call that I had some books on hold and went in to pick them up. I took in the book I had to exchange, and asked for the books they had on hold for me. I spoke with a young woman with red curly hair, and she was very adamant that she couldn't do the exchange. She offered to buy back the book I was looking to exchange for either $1.25 cash or for $3.50 worth of credit. I let her know that was not an acceptable offer to me, given that I had spoken to an employee by phone and that I had been told I could exchange the book. She told me that I had purchased the book too long ago, 16 days to be exact, and that she couldn't exchange it because she "didn't want to put her job on the line." It was at this point that I told her that I seriously doubted doing this exchange would put her job on the line, and if it would, she shouldn't be working for a company that treats their employees that way. I also told her, that I didn't want her to risk her job, but was extremely frustrated by this. It was at this point, that I took a step away from the counter to talk to my partner about what I was going to do about buying the books I had come in for. After a couple of minutes of discussion, I went back to the counter to let let the employee know that I was torn about what to do. I did really want to purchase the 4 books they had on hold for me, one of which is the last of a series that I had already purchased from them. I told her that if she did not honour my exchange I would likely remove all my requests from the list and leave the books with her. She told me that, "for all she knew, I had purchased the book somewhere else, and that I could do what I liked." This comment was a direct accusation of dishonesty against me, and I left the books with her, and told her to remove my requests from the list. What I encountered tonight was terrible business practice. I was there to purchase $30.00 worth of books on top of my exchange. I had spent over $90.00 in July on purchases from the Wee Book Inn to replenish my book collection and finish off a few series. I was there to buy more, and had a couple of requests to add to an already long the list. Instead of honouring the exchange I was promised, which would have cost them $7.00 total and left them with a book of the same value, in the same series no less, to sell, they lost a customer. I won't be going back and you should steer clear. read more

Best of the locations. Great selection and having two floors really adds to the feel. Love to come down here and look around. My wife and I came here while we were dating. We both chose books independently and then shared what we found with each other as a way to learn more about one another. Coincidentally we both chose Moby Dick. We came for the "garage sale", stayed for the cat! Boyfriend and I were garage saling and I was on the hunt for some deals in our neighbourhood, which got me thinking about how expensive a good hardcover book can be nowadays, which then got me thinking about how I've never been to my moms favourite spot-The Wee Book Inn. And let me tell you, it is a bookworm's paradise. Two stories, filled with books and DVD's and comics. Bf and I went to the back as they were hosting said sale. We picked up five book for under $20. Three of which were hardcovers, so gently used that they seemed brand new! I cannot wait to dive into those pages. Will definitely return. read more

This is a small local chain that has a very nice selection of used books. The store features a full house of selections, yet is layed out in such a way that you're not lost among the stacks. Let me preface this review by saying I am in LOVE with books. My life-long love affair with reading started before I could even read myself, so this review may be a little biased (but really, it's not, because Wee Book is awesome!) I'm pretty sure I go to this location of the Wee Book Inn almost every day during the week. I live nearby, and am a frequent walker, so I find that this is often conveniently along my route! This location is amazing because it has such a huge selection spanning over two floors. I also love the layout of the books by genre, if you're just looking for newer fiction it's pretty much as soon as you walk in the door. As a collector of certain types of books (different editions, covers, etc) I love to look and see what's newly added. Let me tell you, books are constantly coming and going out of here. If you like a book, buy it! It probably won't be there when you come back. There is also a selection of DVDs, Blu-rays, and vinyl that are pretty good, along with good prices for the condition. I find that the staff are friendly, but I mostly only deal with them at the cash (when I'm dropping way too much dollars on more books!). And last, but not least, the magical gem of this bookstore... Fleur the cat!! She is a sweet little himalayan that lives in the bookstore, and if you're lucky she might come over to you for a head scratch :) The prices, the selection, the quality, can't beat it. read more

I love the Week Book in and it has been a staple on Whyte Ave for as long as I can remember. I am glad that it is still around and I hope that it continues to be around for a long time. I think there are many people who prefer to read real books versus ebooks. It funs to check out all of the stuff in the store and peruse the used books. There are also used CD/DVD/LP's etc. As someone else said it is like a little treasure hunt every time you go into the store. If you are lucky you will even come across the resident cats as well! read more

The Wee Book Inn is a local chain of used bookstores and is the best of these kinds of stores as far as I am concerned. The Whyte Ave location is huge with over two levels of fantastic used books. I am always astounded by what I find in here and there is a very good selection of well preserved old, rare books on the second level. There is also a large selection of old magazines, including adult ones, and DVDs. I haven't sold any of my books to this store, although I have bought plenty and I find the prices very reasonable. They are open early and close late. I like wandering in here on Saturday mornings while checking out the Strathcona Farmers Market as well! If you are allergic to cats, be warned that they have a resident kitty, but as an allergy sufferer I didn't have any problems. read more

My Beloved and I will often stop in on a date night when wandering up and down Whyte Ave. Our babysitter has joked about us being the only people who come back from dates with books. Being someone that reads around 50 books a year how can I not give this place 5 stars! Oh, yeah, and the kittens help too. Anyway, this place has helped me so much when trying to find books. A couple years ago I was looking for some semi-hard to find novels and I emailed them. Took only a couple days and they had them for pick up at my nearest location. That's better than Chapters service! They also have a good trade in value imo but some would disagree. The staff is helpful for the most part and always greet you when you walk in. This is one place were I could easily drop $100 a visit but I don't because I can't read fast enough and I'd just be a hoarder of unread books. So yeah, great place but it is sad to see this buisness closing or changing locations due to the eBook era. I have purposely refused to buy an eBook reader simply because I don't want to be a part of it... and I love the smell of old books too. read more

There is a large selection of books here for sale, however none of the books I have bought from there have been in great condition, one was so bad she marked it down again at the register and told me I couldn't bring it back! definetly NOT the place to sell your books, you will get next to nothing for them and they will sell them for a much higher price! Two things keep me going here: the awesome hours and the ability to "save" a book your looking for. On multiple occasions; I had a specific OLD, random book I was looking for. Every single time; they came through. You can add your name to a "wait list" and you'll get notified when that title shows up in the store. That's customer service!! I absolutely love this book store! I've bought so many bestselling Fantasy books from here. And I love the cat that just wanders around! This book store is quite big and also sells music. The staff is very friendly and they take requests and they buy books as well. Every time I go to Whyte Ave, I visit this book store and I almost always find a book I've been wanting for around half the price. I like the Strath. branch of Wee Book Inn a lot. It's a two storey shop with a variety of books, encyclopedias, CDs, LPs, DVDs etc. There's something about buying a used book. It just feels like as if you're somehow just grazing the previous owners history. I believe strongly in used books and enjoy the spirit of this store. Wee Book is more of the browsing kinda store, rather than the place you'd go looking for a very specific book. It's spacious interiors make it comfortable to browse and makes it possible to spend hours at this place (if you wish). I remember buying this book that was printed in 1951 and the smell emitting from the pages was so great it could almost turn me on! This store has a lot of really old books, mixed in with a few more contemporary authors. Big dictionaries, huge encyclopedia collections, sci-fi books, romance, literature, non-fiction, educational .. it's all there ... The location is also great, since it's right next to chill out places (Two rooms cafe, Elephant & Caste) where you could end up spending an entire afternoon reading your new purchase. The store (and other Wee Book stores too) has a cat that lives in the store .. so cute!! Also, the hours are great. The inn is generally open till midnight. read more

The Wee Book Inn is a great little place to browse for a new read. It's ultra-affordable, and the dazzling selection here can keep you busy for several hours. Books (new and old), DVDs, music; you name it, the Wee Book Inn has it. I recently brought a batch of used books to the Whyte Ave location, and the staff were very helpful and quick in going through them, determining which ones they would purchase. I don't know about you but I love book and I love knowing that Wee Book Inn a really get selection of used books for decent prices. As an English literary major in university I find that it's the best place to go to pick up some of my required reading. They are used so I don't feel bad about spending the money so I can write and highlight my harts content. This makes life a little easier for me as a student. Also if I have some books that I don't want to keep anymore and they're in good condition (no highlighting) then I know that I can trade or sell my books to them. I really don't like to do that do often, unless I just really hated a book; but I usually keep most of my books. Anyways, also love the fact that in each Wee Book Inn I've been into there is a huge, fat cat sleeping culled up on the floor somewhere; one time I almost stepped on one! The staff members are really nice and they are pretty helpful if you want to find a book or sell something; I believe they also take DVD's. In addition to that I love used books and recycling, so what better way to combine the two than to not waste any books and resell them? When I walk into this store, it makes me happy. I love books. My three bookshelves are packed full and beginning to be double-stacked. And while there are a lot of little bookstores that sell used books in the Whyte ave area, this one is my favorite by far. The store has two floors, and is actually pretty huge once you get inside. The place is very cozy, and definitely emits a "kick-off-your-shoes-and-relax" vibe. Definitely the best atmosphere out of all of the bookstores I've been to. The cute kitty wandering around the store doesn't hurt! The staff really don't mind if you spend six hours in the store reading, and I have a couple friends that like to go and do just that. Further fueling this, they are open pretty late... I've even missed my bus home because I lost track of time reading! They have a wide selection of used paperbacks in many different genres. Some of them can be in pretty bad condition, but they only charge a couple bucks for each one so it's well worth it. They have a lot of older books (and Playboys... seriously), even dating back to the early 20th century, located upstairs. The prices can range drastically upstairs, some books being over a hundred bucks, but most of them are very reasonably priced and usually much cheaper than nearby bookstores. They have some pretty wacky old books if you look through the shelves thoroughly, and have books on topics that are hard to find information on at places like Chapters (horology, for example.) Oh! And they DO have a bathroom located in the store for customers to use. I found this out recently and wished I'd known about it sooner... the effects of ignoring your biological situation in order to stay and read longer being something I often experienced there...sigh. The staff is not exactly friendly, but neither are they condescending or judgey when I "accidentally" buy the Twilight series (what? I had to see what all the fuss was about and I sure as s#!* am not going to pay full price for that!) or something of equal literary horribleness. The Wee Book Inn chain is fantastic. They are well-known all around Edmonton as THE used book store. The Whyte Ave location is great because it is huge (2 full levels) and it's open late. It is open from 9:00am until midnight every night. It's a great place to go even if you are just bored on a week night. My most recent experience there wasn't as good as past ones. The girl that I asked to help me guessed where I might be find what I was looking for, before telling em she didn't know. Then she stood there. She didn't ask someone else who was working. She didn't come out from behind the counter and help me try to find it. She just leaned on the counter and chewed her gum. This has been the only bad experience I've had at any Wee Book Inn though and I have been to numerous locations, dozens of times. Generally, the staff are extremely knowledgeable and willing to help. Whenever I ask where I can find something (my last experience excluded) they either know exactly where it is or they will come out and walk around with me until we find it. It's hard to leave a We Book Inn without something! I went in just to warm up and browse and left with 3 books. They are all awesome books though! read more
