Very surprised and very happy with my recent hair cut. I've been putting off a hair cut for almost a year and today decided it was the day. After trying more than a hand full of local salons and finding no success, I gave Shear Envy a call and they got me right in. Moses listened to what I wanted and got to work. I came in for a gel medi and pedi and I let them know over the phone that I had previous work done (gel x) on my nails. They soaked my hand for about 30 minutes but still did not fully take it off all the way. Instead of thoroughly cleaning the base of my nail Ana painted over it and called it a day. I didn't want to say anything in store because that is not the type of person I am but here are some pictures of their work. Not to mention she was cutting my skin and then cut too deep which made me bleed. After that she decided to put my hand back into acetone, not very professional. read more

Went in on a whim (called at ten, showed up at noon) because I wasn't liking my hair and thought a color change would make me feel better about myself. When I tell you... I've NEVER left a hair salon actually liking my hair, I mean it, and today, I LOVED it! I didn't expect much of anything, but Jenny got my hair ashier than it's ever been in just one session. For someone who's "not picky" (aka doesn't know what they want), I'm so grateful she delivered and actually cared. Amazing price as well. read more

So happy they're open again and observing COVID precautions. They check your temperature upon entry, ensure you spritz some hand sanitizer in front + added plexi glass in the cashier area. They installed plastic dividers between pedicure chairs (including between shampoo sinks) and spread out manicure stations. The girls are always friendly and efficient and service rates are reasonable. I love the pedicure with cooling gel wrapped in hot towel around my leg. Feels so good! They offer hair and nail service. I've been coming to Shear Envy ever since I moved to OC over 8 years ago and refuse to go to another salon for my haircut/nails....ever! When I commit, I commit. I absolutely adore JENNI! She can do it all: haircuts (men/women/children), color, eyebrows, cosmetic tattooing, etc.! She makes every visit pleasant and you can tell she's been in this industry for years because everything she does is flawless. Whenever I visit, I allow her to have full control of what she recommends for my cut/style. My hair feels extremely healthy and I leave a happy customer. Another positive is she's pretty funny so the conversations flow naturally. My nail-tech is Sam. He is the professional of the professionals when it comes to acrylic, gel, gel-x. He can do anything and everything you want from color, designs, and style. Trust me, I get compliments all the time! Jenni and Sam seem to always be busy so I recommend making an appointment beforehand. Michael, who sometimes works at the front desk stops by and has conversations with all the customers and checks in to make sure everything is going smoothly. Everyone at Shear Envy is extremely welcoming and friendly. They go above and beyond for their customers to make sure we are satisfied. I love this place and I feel like family when I am here. I scheduled an appointment with Jenni and she was great! For starters, I would usually get a skin fade and take a little off the top with blending in the back. This time, I asked Jenni to try something new on me since I wanted to keep my longer hair on top and do a taper on the side. She pulled up a bunch of reference pictures on an iPad to verify which hairstyle I wanted and we went from there - and I love it. She was very patient and super cool and the vibes were immaculate. I used to come here all the time for hair cuts since they are affordable and normally well done. However, I did a cut and highlights with Anna and was very disappointed. She botched my highlights making them look like tiger stripes and the color was very orange after me specifically saying I wanted no brassy/orange tones. She had to tone it down several times after I told her that's not what I wanted. On top of that the cut was awful. I asked for a tiny bit off the ends and some layers and she cut several inches and did not do any layers.. She also charged me much higher than I would've expected for a quick and messy cut and color. I shouldn't have gone to Anna because my hair looked way better before I walked in and I left very disappointed. read more

Clean, friendly, and inclusive salon! Had a wonderful experience today. One thing i'll say is that this place is a little bit ghetto, they don't always have a normal "seat" for you to do your manicure, but the company and the price is well worth it. I was sat on one of those hair drying chairs and given a pillow to rest my hands on while the manicurist Mary did my nails. I thought i would get moved to an actual seat, but no. It's okay though. it's half a hair salon and half a nail salon. everyone in the salon were so nice!! i would say it took about an hour for my gel manicure, to take off my original gel nails and put on a new set. but OMG, for only $25?! WHAT A STEAL! i've never had a gel manicure for so cheap. I had to tip $5 because not only was the service amazing, my nails were amazing too. This will be the only salon i will ever come back to from now on. I will never choose another place to get my nails done. thank you for the BEST SERVICE and the CUTEST NAILS ever!! read more

So it took me a very long time to finally switch hair salons.... And after 15 years of going with the same hairdresser I finally came to Shear Envy salon. Jennie not only went above and beyond to make sure I felt at ease but my whole experience there was very comforting. From hearing customers compliment her work as well as reading all the reviews on Yelp. I'm glad I found this place. You gained another customer Jennie! I love my hair!! I have posted before and after pictures as you can see in the before I had patches of blonde here and there and was badly damaged, this isn't called highlights. From 12-20-18 ---- I understand that it was the holidays.... I called on Tuesday 12-18-18 and Michael answered and I wanted to make an apt with Sam for Thursday 12-20 and when I showed up on Thursday I was no where on the books for an apt! And I specifically asked Michael to confirm on my apt and he verified and when I showed up they overbooked me! I was very disappointed. If you call to make an apt a few days before or even the day before I suggest you call and verify before wasting your time. I really like this place. Sam always does an amazing job. The service however in overbooking was disappointing. I found this nail salon through Yelp. I decided to give it a try. IWhen I walked in I was seated right away and Sam was the one who did my nails. I was absolutely amazed in how great my nails turned out. At first my pinky nail was a bit shorter than I wanted but he managed to make it longer. He took his time making sure it was perfect. And they definitely are. I recommend this place and recommend you request Sam. You won't be disappointed. read more

Boyfriend has been coming here ever since we moved to Anaheim and they have all their beautiful women cut his hair. Michael, the owner asked if he wanted to try getting a mani pedi so he brought me along because I've never experienced one either. We ended up getting the most expensive package which was around $46 but I upgraded mine to gel polish for $10 extra. Overall their staff takes care of you and makes sure you are completely comfortable during your visit. His hair always comes out good and our feet and hands felt brand new. I love coming here! Jenni put purple highlights in my hair in January and it turned out so beautiful and it blends perfectly. Just yesterday she put highlights in my hair, this time blue and it came out amazing as you can see in the pictures. She's very experienced and does great work, I recommend her to anyone looking to change up their hairstyle or just get a simple cut! Jenni is absolutely amazing! I am so glad she opened her own place. I have been going to her and ONLY her since 2009. I would rather go without a haircut than go to someone else. Her haircuts are reasonably priced and she is consistently fantastic. She has a knack for knowing what you want and delivering. The salon is right next to Ho Toy's (great cheap Chinese food) and Albertson's. Go see Jenni at Shear Envy Salon and try it out. You will not be disappointed! read more

$80 for a haircut and solid color + $20 to blow dry my naturally wavy/curly hair straight (no flat iron) = Just getting the color next time. Came here because Jerome W. (fellow Yelper) recommended it, and Hair Genesis in Garden Grove didn't answer the phone when I called three times. Set-up up an appointment time for Friday at 5:15-ish, came in and was seated right away and had a consultation with the famous Jenni. Told her I wanted to dye my hair mahogany and a trim with long layers and was quoted $80 to which I agreed . Here's what happened: COLOR: Started with the color and Jenni was quick and efficient and had another guy helping her with my hair. My hair was a little past shoulder length, wavy/curly and thin even though it may look thick when it's dry, but when you feel it it's definitely thin and easy to manage. Jenni was multi-tasking while my hair color was setting in. The guy that helped made sure to keep the dye on skin minimal and clean it up as best he could. The finished product was amazing and I loved it! CUT: So Mary was sent over to cut my hair while Jenni was working on another clients nails and she asked if I wanted long layers, I said yes, then she went into a spiel about how much a cut costs normally vs. how much it costs with a color and I couldn't understand her English that well, but felt like I was getting another quote for what I already discussed with Jenni. It went something like $15 to $35 and I said, "Jenni told me cut and color $80." I also asked Jenni how much would it cost to get my hair blow dried straight instead of just left as is (curly and wet) and she quoted me $20 and said to let her know if I wanted to do that. I let Mary know and then another price came up for blow-drying and I told her again, Jenni quoted me $20 for blow drying. Mary asked Jenni across the room in their native language to confirm what I said and agreed. I was really happy with my color and the whole renegotiating the price dance with Mary put me off about the haircut experience. I wish Jenni would've been the main person to do both my color and cut instead of balancing it between her and Mary, but it seems she's juggling a lot with doing nails as well as hair and I have nothing but respect for hard working women so no shade on Jenni. Definitely great place to get your hair colored, dyed, highlighted. I may come back to get my nails done and hopefully they do French ombre cause I would give them 5 plus stars and then some if they can do that. read more

They complained the the last person to do my nails made them crooked...... well they made them lumpy and nicked my finger while filing. Not local to this salon but in the area a lot. I will never go back to them. Plus they charged me $7 for a small uneven glitter line that I never even asked for. Make sure it is clear what you do & do not want.... they will just do more so they can charge you. I did like the ambiance....... they just need better customer service. They should not do something without asking then charge you for it...... read more

She made sure to clean up the edges and even added a pink clear coat, which is actually what I prefer anyway. My nails came out so pretty! The basic pedicure was $30 and my total was $38 because of the $8 gel-removal fee. The whole thing took about 50 minutes, which I thought was pretty reasonable. The only downside was the strong chemical smell when I first walked in. It was pretty intense and honestly started giving me a little headache. Other than that, I had a really good experience. They also have a stamp card where you get a stamp for services $15+, and your 10th stamp gets you $10 off. They offer gift certificates too, which I thought was nice. Overall, I'm really happy with my pedicure and how my nails turned out. I'll definitely be back!

The last issue happened last week, but I waited until today to write about it. I wanted to sit with my emotions and see if it still bothered me. It does. The salon is nice, and I can see they've tried to renovate it, but I wouldn't call it 100% accommodating. The bathroom and baseboards still look old, and the chairs don't have a massage feature. I notice details that other people might not, but none of that was a reason for me to stop coming. I told them from the beginning that I'm picky. I'm polite, but I know what I want and always tell nail salons upfront. I've been getting my nails done since I was 15, and I'm 45 now. My nails are thin and brittle, and psoriasis affects how they look. Sometimes they can look like they might have fungus, but that's what psoriasis does to my nails. I need a technician who understands that. My first appointment went well. I really liked my pedicure and the woman who did it. She's a sweetheart. The nail technician is nice and does a good job, though she has a strong personality that can come across as a little rude. I have a strong personality too, so I gave it a chance. Both technicians are fast, which I love because I travel a lot for work and don't want to spend hours in a nail salon. A full set and pedicure took about an hour and 15 minutes. Both looked cute, and I got what I wanted. About a month later, I called and asked for a fill. When I arrived, the nail technician started removing my nails. She then told me that next time we should do a fill because my nails are so brittle. I told her I had asked for a fill when I called, and that she'd said she would decide whether to remove them once she saw them. She told me that regardless of what I say on the phone, I should discuss what we agreed on directly with her when I come in. I said okay, but I also wondered why my request hadn't been communicated to her. That's part of having a receptionist. I was irritated, but my second full set and pedicure looked good, so I decided to come back. At my next visit, she removed the polish, saw that the nails underneath didn't look good, and decided to take the set off. I also switched from an oval shape to a shorter, simpler coffin shape. The next day, the color started chipping. My sister said that can happen with a solid color using gelx, but I was about to leave the country for work and wanted my nails to look professional. I called the salon, explained the chipping, and asked to come in to fix it. I offered to pay. The person on the phone insisted there would be no charge and booked me. I even asked if she was sure, and she said yes. I want to emphasize that I offered to pay because I value people's work. When I came in, they saw me fairly quickly. Nobody mentioned a charge before or during the appointment. At the end, the nail technician told me it would be $35. I paid and gave her a $7 tip. I wasn't going to change my character over it, but I was irritated. I don't know whether the receptionist failed to tell the technician what she'd promised. My issue isn't paying, I offered to do that from the beginning. My issue is being told repeatedly that I wouldn't be charged, then being charged without an explanation or apology. My nails had been done less than 9 days earlier, and she changed the color and reshaped them. Even if they wanted to charge me, they could have told me beforehand or acknowledged the miscommunication. Nobody did. I've run businesses for years, and transparency matters to me. If a client explains what they need to the receptionist, that information should reach the technician. This was the second time something I'd discussed on the phone didn't seem to be communicated. In my experience, the front desk came across as disengaged, and the communication was mediocre. I'm not naming anyone because I don't want to put anyone on blast. I hope the salon takes this as a lesson. The nails looked nice, the woman who does my pedicures is lovely, and the nail technician is quick and does good work. My biggest issue is the salon's internal communication, which shouldn't be the client's responsibility. Thank you for the services, but I won't be back.

After my appointment, I went back and read the negative reviews, and honestly, those matched my experience much more closely. The first red flag was that I walked in to ask about pricing, then left to think about it, and one of the employees actually came out into the parking lot to convince me to come back. That immediately felt off. The second red flag was that I asked for almond-shaped acrylics, and the technician immediately started putting tips on without ever asking what length I wanted. He just assumed I wanted them short. By that point I was already committed, so I just went with it. As the service went on, I also noticed the salon wasn't as clean as I would expect. There were leftover decorations up and everything was just dirty and had stains on it, and debris around the work area, and it just didn't give me a great feeling. To be fair, the pedicure came out really nice. They opened what appeared to be a sealed pack of sanitized tools, which I appreciated, and I'm happy with how my toes turned out. The acrylic nails, though, were another story. The technician left noticeable gaps between the acrylic and my cuticles, as well as along the sides of my nails. They're also extremely thick. My boyfriend, who normally doesn't notice nails at all, actually asked if they were press-ons because they looked so bulky and fake. It's only been about a week, and because of the large gap near the cuticle, they already look like they've grown out for several weeks. I know sometimes a last-minute appointment is all you can get, and that's why I stayed. But if I could do it over again, I would have gone somewhere else. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this salon based on my experience.

I have given this place 3 chances. The first time awesome, the last two times not satisfied at all. I went here on Thursday, I was put in a chair right away and the girl started working on my nails. First off she didn't take off all the gel so when she put the acrylic nails on there was still some gel underneath. She didn't bother telling me about it until after she finished will putting all the acrylics on. Then she asks if that's ok? Of course not but since she already finished it will hurt way more her taking it off. She pressed way to hard when filing and kept burning me. She cut me twice, she was just rushing way to fast. When she was finished my nails looked horrible and I complained about the cuticles they then tell me that they do not cuticles when doing full sets. It is now Monday and my nails are lifting. I will never come here again! Seriously not worth it. read more

I gave this place a try last week. It was one of the greatest decision I've made in a long time. I was politely greeted by Tiffany the hair stylist. I told her I wanted a simple trim and make it snappy. Tiffany look at my head for few seconds and told me I should cut shorter on the side since i have a round face. I never knew that. I followed her advice and my hair cut came out looking great. I have lots of complement from my coworker. one even ask if I've lost weight because my face look skinnier. I came in to the salon with little hope and expectation since so many have messed up my hairs in the past. Tiffany did a great job on my hair. I would definitely come back.
