Shaw's Supermarket - Wakefield Shaw's in Peabody is a great quick shop--kind of like if Stop & Shop made a Temu version (and I mean that in the best way). The selections are solid, prices are fair, and it's easy to get in and out without feeling overwhelmed. The parking entrance feels like a mini race track, so buckle up when you're pulling in. Inside, the store is clean and organized, but the staff could definitely smile more--a little warmth goes a long way. As a picky Neww Yorkahh, I was pleasantly surprised. It's not fancy, but it's practical, and sometimes that's exactly what you need. Bonus points: Go shop and charge! Shaw's is part of the modern grocery game, and having EV chargers available makes it even more convenient. Final Verdict: 4 stars. Don't Order Delivery, & Customer Service is Terrible: They use DoorDash and are very unreliable. On top of that, half of the items ordered were out of stock. I had a big order today for $470. I made the order last night, and all the items were in, but when it was finally delivered today, half of what I ordered was not there. They do not update their system, so I was left with pieces of my order (perishable) but unable to use them because critical items were missing (like all the meat). Expensive lesson! read more

julia ketsoian who answers the phone in customer service did not patch me through to her manager. I am assuming she did not want to get in trouble, but she did not do her job correctly. When a customer asks to speak to your supervisor and you hang up on them what kind of employees do you have managing your business? I called right back and julia ketsoian answered & said this isn't Julia this is "tracy." She had the same voice and just lied and gave me a fake name and hung up. I have been looking for Wensleydale cheese for the holidays. I finally thought I'd found it at Shaw's. It was in their flyer and unfortunately not in their store. An employee nearby was kind enough to help me look, but said that sometimes they advertise things that they just never get. Supply side - I get it. But if you advertise an item and don't receive it, please post something so that people like me who drive there and look for it, don't waste any more of their time. I phoned the store to ask if they had it and sold out - or were going to get more - nobody ever heard of it and said it might be something another of their locations carries. I said it was in their flyer, but was told they all have the same flyer, and not all their stores carry every item. Huh? Was starting to think I might add Shaw's to my list of markets. Things seem to be looking up for the Wakefield Shaws. The place is clean, shelves stocked & employees seem much nicer than I have dealt with in the past. I did notice there were some upper management strolling around the store so hopefully that is not the reason. Michelle, manager maybe, Is awesome. She happily fixes mistakes that happen during check out & is so pleasant to deal with. They need to do a better job of checking expiration dates & rotate stock but it has been much better lately. I wish they would stop requiring multiple items of some items to get the sale price. Most people do not have the room or need FIVE half gallons of ice cream. And maybe some day they will have ample quantities of the sale items. Sale starts on Fridays but usually when I go that morning they are out of things. Maybe someday they will be able to come close to Market Basket prices. read more

I just got back from the Wakefield MA store. They now close at 9:00 on Sunday, used to be 10:00, some of the google pages still show 10:00 close time but I digress. I got there at 8:53, still enough time to get what I needed. The door at the far end of the store at produce was already locked, they lock it early all the time which is annoying so I walked to the other end of the store as an employee was walking toward the door. She locked it before I got there, another person was also trying to get in. I knocked on the door only to be ignored by the red hair ponytailed employee. The other customer opened the out door so we went in. I've owned 3 retail businesses, that is NOT how you treat your customers or anyone for that matter. This is bullshit! I know they want to go home so if the store closes at 8:55 that should be the posted hours but the sign reads 7:00 to 9:00 so I expect to be able to shop till 9:00. I am so done with this place with the highest prices of any chain I'm aware of. read more

They just lost a whole heck of a lot of business from my family. We usually do our bi weekly shopping at Market Basket in Reading, however for fill ins or extras we need thru the week we end up here. It is literally up the road from us and very convenient. The prices are a bit higher but hat with the location I always just ate it! WELL, we also have usually gotten our birthday cakes here as well. The cakes taste great and frosting is ok, decorations ok as well. So this year, July 4th is my daughter's birthday, so I called a few days ahead to order it. We wanted a white cake, chocolate frosting, with OWLS (red white adn blue) and of course the happy birthday. Are you sitting down?!!? We get there and they bring out the cake and it has FLOWERS on it! How the heck do you confuse flowers with owls. The gal says, well we couldnt read the instructions, um....CALL US to get clarification! This weekend we stopped at this Shaw's location to grab some ice, hit up the ATM, as well as grab some snacks. When I checked in I feared what was to come because of the terrible reviews, but we didn't have the same experience as past Yelpers. The staff here was average to other grocery stores we go to. The woman at the service desk was a bit guarded and brisk, but the cashier was polite and quick. We ended up finding everything we needed and the prices were similar to other chains. In the end, we enjoyed shopping at this store and we would definitely shop here again in the future. read more

I live around the corner form the Wakefield Shaw's, however 8 out if 10 times if I only need a couple of things i go right buy it to Market Basket. Today i decided to go there just wanted some fruit . So in the refrigerator section is small containers of mixed fruit sale sign 2 for $10 right in front of it plus small containers of watermelon, cantaloupe etc. All marked with sign 2 for $10. So i picked up 1 mixed and 1 watermelon plus a couple other items as usually not enough cashiers. Get in line then the 10 or less opens perfect. Pay for items then notice price 5.99 for watermelon and 6.99 for mixed fruit. Go back and check sign says 2 for 10 mux and match. Go to customer service and she says if you look closely its its only on the plain fruit. I go look again if you look real close the sign in front of mixed fruit had the word melons. So needless to say I am done with Shaw's. read more

The turd icing that frosted my cupcake... I often pick up expired food here. Flour tortillas, cheese nips, yogurt, cheese, frozen broccoli, applesauce pouches... I unknowingly bought boxed of apple sauce pouches that were over 1 year expired and my 1.5 year old consumed one. I was extremely upset and brought the 2 expired boxes back to the manager and she just fluffed it off. I asked her, " do you have children? How would you feel if your child ate something over a year past it's best by date?" She replied "I wouldn't feed those to my kids, the other brand has been recalled for mold. Haven't you seen it on Facebook?" Really lady?!?! Obviously not! At that point I didn't know what to feel more upset about- feeding my tot a product that she was saying had toxic mold when NOT a YEAR past the expiration date or that she was questioning my parenting by buying the product to begin with. So I asked her " if you don't think the product is safe why are you selling it at all and why are you selling it 1 year past it expiration date?" Then I walked away and circled the store and waited to see if they would send someone to check the remaining product on the shelf for any more expired boxes. Nope. So, I went back up to her and suggested it "might be a good idea". What can I say other that you CANT reason with STUPID. read more

So I went back, asked to speak to the manager and told him it's a liability to sell expired goods to consumers because it could affect their health. He clearly didn't care. He told me the product was still "good" and that the product "just loses its flavor after the expiration date...but doesn't go bad". Then he says "We do weekly quality checks on our 50,000 items". In sticking with Vinny's thoughts, the produce, meats, fish, grocery items and store layout is great and prices are affordable as with any Shaw's -- but the vibe here is just "different". Having been going to the Stoneham Shaw's for years until it was closed a few months ago, that store had people you knew, that said hello, made conversation and the store in general had a buzz about it inside when you were there that let you know it was "alive". This Wakefield location seems "dead" inside. Not much hometown feel, with neighbors chatting in the aisles or the deli guy chit chatting with his regular customer, etc. It is a good option for you if you need to do bulk shopping (because pretty much your only other options are small specialty shops around town that are a bit pricey for regular items), but just be aware that it will be a bit of a bland experience. read more

Love having Shaw's local in town. The store is very clean and the employees are very friendly. The Manager Jim is very helpful when I had a question. Love that it is always a quick in and quick out with no huge crowds and parking issues to deal with I shop here during the week because it is so convenient. I have no idea what these negative reviews are about. The selection is better than Maker Basket and the process are comparable or a bit higher, depending on what you are buying. Unlike Market Basket, Shaw's has real sales (loss leaders) on items that make it worth the drive from Reading. I've never had a problem with the service. I deducted one star because of how hard it is to pull out of the parking lot. Unless you drive a Fiat 500 you're in danger of either hitting a curb or having a head on collision because of how wide you'll have to take a right turn to avoid the curb. read more

I don't know about other Shaw's locations, but this location has high prices. I will say that I do enjoy the fresh salmon from this location. The only thing that really makes this location stand out is their coinstar. No other supermarket in the immediate area has a coinstar. And that is really essential, because God knows I am not rolling up all my little nickels, dime, pennies and quarter to take to the bank. read more
