I've been shopping here for 16 years. The customer service just gets worse and worse. On my last trip, the person who checked me out made no move to bag my groceries, nor did any of the other employees around. I stood at the end and bagged over $200 in groceries. The clerk finished checking me out and still did not bag anything. A supervisor caught my irritated expression, came over, and started arguing with the clerk about the length of their break while I continued to bag all of my groceries and neither made any move to assist. I went to Shaws today to buy boneless chicken breasts. The store was completely out of chicken breasts - something I have never seen before at a supermarket. This is par for the course at Shaws: they don't bother to keep basic items in stock. I'll shop at Market Basket or Stop and Shop in future. read more

I don't know what's wrong with the crabby old man at the fish counter, maybe he needs a Snickers! He is ALWAYS rude to my elderly parents. When this was brought to the attention of management, they agreed that they have had others complain about him. Why not fire him?? Not a great day at Shaw's. Some Suit in Corporate headquarters decided that if is isn't broke to fix it anyway. The store is pure chaos. Nothing is in a place where you would expect it. I have shopped there for many years and enjoyed the feeling of walking into my own personal pantry and knowing exactly where everything was. Try to find the sugar!! Hint: look in the pasta section. Coffee is nowhere around. It is like you are on a scavenger hunt. When the rearranging is all done they need to hand out maps. The clerks just look like deer in the headlights when asked where to find something. I will not venture into that jungle again for a long time. l read more

I like the reduced price baked goods, and you can usually find some other reasonably priced stuff, but I wouldn't want to pay their prices for full grocery orders. And shouldn't they be requiring face masks on customers, if only to keep their workers safe!? Witnessed a group in the produce aisle maskless. They have some good items that you can not find elsewhere as far as organic food go. Plenty of parking. Many cashiers and registers opened. Shaw's is Very expensive! That is what stops me shopping here more often. read more

Closest supermarket to my house. I don't like it, at all. Expensive and poor cuts of meat. Produce selection blows. I hate stupid member cards. After coming here for 2 minutes on Saturday, I said "F**k this", and got meat from Blood Farm, and finished shopping at Hannaford's. Why shop somewhere, when you hate it, and it costs a lot? I agree with the reviewers about Shaw's - the staff treat the workplace like it's their living room. They shout and laugh to each other instead of answering patron's questions - when we ask a question, we feel like we're interrupting their recess. I give a second star since this seems to be changing this past year. Manager Amber is still friendly, but also professional - she seems to be shaping the place up a bit. Go Amber! read more

I've been going to this location for years and it has been getting progressively worse for a while. Recently there has been a marked deterioration in customer service, with cashiers chatting to one another and never addressing the customer they are serving. The fish, fruits and veggies etc are not put out when the store opens and are put away about 45 minutes before the store closes. A while ago they installed cameras and monitors EVERYWHERE and have also installed videos that play annoying infomercial type content. The last straw was their "new and improved" remodel. They have increased the square footage a great deal, but with no appreciable increase in products, just price increases. Time to switch to another store. read more

It's the closest supermarket to me, but I can't say it's my favorite place to shop. I agree with the other review, it is expensive (sometimes more then Whole Foods), and their meat section does kinda blow. We are big on the fruits and veggies, and their produce has gotten better. I am still skeeved at the red grapes - this market was in the news for a black widow, but that could have happened anywhere. They have a pretty decent organic selection, but the quality isn't Whole Foods. This market is good in a pinch, except now you need a solid hour and a half to make it through the 'Super Shaws', now totally and nearly impossible to shop with a toddler - good luck to you! It is what it is.. but a woman did comment to me yesterday how it is now 'too big', and I agree. The kids that work the registers ... hold yourself... have a brain, and they seem to care about their work. Yes, that's right, they are respectable, genuine, smart and nice. I still can't believe I just wrote that! Overall they do have a great staff, morning and night. It's a market, just be prepared to spend alot of time trying to get through the place! read more

I was there last week (ie amidst the whole Covid-19 thing) and there were 2 teen boys wandering inside around with no masks. They even went to the register and purchased things and did not appear to be spoken to or kicked out etc. To me, this speaks volumes about Shaws not taking this whole thing seriously. Comparably - Whole Foods checks people at the door and they don't even allow people in the door without a mask. read more

Good selection on produce, grocery items, and the speciality items I'm usually looking for (avocado oil, Bell and Evans chicken). And it's seldom crowded, to boot. The worst! Most of the employees have horrible attitudes, especially the morning crew. Two women on the front end act like they are bothered having to do their jobs. At night, the young people at the registers never greet, tell you how much you owe, or acknowledge your presence. The deli has this one handle bar mustached guy who yelled at me for asking him to wash properly when he had stopped cleaning to wait on me. He barely rinsed! Another time, the same guy dropped a provolone cheese on the floor, picked it up, again barely rinsed it, and proceeded to slice it for me! I was disgusted. The bakery staff is great, though. The customer service desk has nice people, too. But, the bad outweighs the good here significantly! read more

Drop by to buy deli. Worker was talking to acquaintances so I waited. I looked in her direction to see if she knew I was waiting. She took her sweet time talking and then afterwards approached me with an annoyed look and said 'Yes?' in the manner like What do you want? No 'can I help you' or 'how are you today'. I said 'excuse me?'. She was again perturbed and said well I saw you staring at me so I figure you must want something. I know you didn't come here for the ambience. Gees, I guess she either really hates her job or fell out of the wrong side of the bed or has something against a customer looking at her for help. Ridiculous.... read more

Went to Shaw's yesterday because Fedex lists it a staffed shipping location near me. I needed a Fedex envelope and wanted to deal with a human, not just an outdoor box. But they provide pickup and drop off service, and don't stock any of the envelopes and label attachment stuff you need to send an item. read more

This has to be the worst grocery store in the area. The meat and fish departments are average. The produce department lacks variety - I can never find what I need when I need it (cilantro, escarole are two recent examples) and end up going to Market Basket where everything is less expensive anyway. In addition, the produce department stocks only the basics and what they stock is lacking in freshness. The ethnic food selection is basic at best. The prices at Shaw's in Stow are significantly higher than Market Basket - my average "shopping bag" is generally 20% or more less at MB. Shaw's charges $5 for Yasso bars while MB charges $4 - and, the bars at Shaw's have generally been mishandled resulting in misshapen bars suffering from re-freeze frost. Service there is minimalist and varies greatly from day to day. I am thankful we have a supermarket in town but when able will shop elsewhere. read more

We shop regularly at Shaw's in Stow and appreciate the good merchandise selection and clean environment. Two concerns, however: 1) Some produce is not labelled with a price. When I asked about the cost of watermelons, staff scurried about but did not return to inform me of the price 2) Staff in the deli do not know how to put on gloves properly. One staff was seen blowing into a glove prior to putting it on. Another rubbed the outside of the gloves, before putting them on. There must be a better way! read more

Have to go there because it is the closest grocery store to where I live. Given the choice, I would not shop there. Prices are higher than comparable Shaw's and Stop'n Shop, deli staff do not care if you are waiting for 15 minutes in line for a lousy salad and work very slowly. I have also been blatantly ignored by deli staff a couple times. Baggers will throw your salad or soup into a bag without tying or securing it so that it ends up spilling once you take it to your car. General feeling like staff doesn't care. Have seen way better grocery stores than this disgrace. read more

A right sized grocery (feel slightly lost in the newer Groton location). Pricey but high quality meat, produce and bakery. Have been shopping here for years and have only experienced the nicest people working and shopping here. They really go out of their way to be helpful. If I could give less than 1 star, I would. Can't decide which store - Stow or Hudson, Ma is worse. A toss-up, especially when it comes to employee attitude. Overall rude and lazy, especially the cashiers. I actually had one argue with me when I asked her to double bag for me. She had stuffed everything I bought into ONE bag, and as I have had bags rip open and spill the contents before even leaving the register area several times, asked for the double bag. The cashier had the nerve to tell me I didn't need a double bag! When I pressed the issue, she threw a bag at me and told me to do it myself! I immediately talked to the front area supervisor, who gave me a half-hearted apolology, then, as an apparent "punishment", sent her outside to collect carriages. As it was a beautiful day and this store (Stow) does not get a lot of customer traffic, it was not much of a problem for her. She still works there, but even if I had ONE thing to buy and she had no one in line, I would gladly wait behind a long line of customers in order to avoid her. Management at most Shaws stores seems to have an adversarial attitude to customers. if they are "helping out" at a register by bagging, I have seen them openly and LOUDLY arguing with a customer over a price or the amount of something they are purchasing, instead of quietly explaining the store policy, thereby embarrassing them in front of everyone. Cashiers NEVER ask if you have a MyMixx account, or say it's too late to input when you tell them you have one. Even though I've spoken to management REPEATEDLY about this and they've promised to enforce the policy, it still occurs EVERY time I shop at ANY Shaws location. The manager of Shaws in Hudson was chortling over how good her numbers were going to look to corporate during the recent Stop and Shop strike - quite loudly in front of customers. Was she really that stupid to think it was because of HER? Just as Market Basket customers flocked back to them when they had their problem a few years ago, the Stop and Shop customers flocked back the minute things were resolved. And why not? If Shaws treats people so badly, why should potential customers show them any loyalty? read more

I had to make another trip to Shaw's recently when I discovered I was short an ingredient in a recipe. I arrived roughly two hours before closing only to discover that they had already packed up the ENTIRE produce department. I've been to plenty of grocery stores. I worked at a grocery store. I have never heard of a grocery store putting away its produce two hours before the entire store closes. Not only that, but when I went to customer service and asked if the item I needed could be retrieved for me, the clerk told me that they were out, without even checking. When I tried to ask if he could call back and check with someone from the produce department, he walked away from me, went into the office and closed the door. read more

This is on my way home from work. Their sale price never ever rings up correctly. I would suggest actually bringing the sale price sign with you when you are ready to pay. I shop here twice a week and it never fails that I hold up the line because their sale items never ring up correctly and they have to send someone back to "double check" and they ALWAYS have to call a manager to adjust it. Always check your receipt! Chances are you are not paying for the sale price that you thought of. I seriously walk out of there saving anywhere from $15-$20 because I wait for them to do the sale price adjustment. Someone is not doing their job. read more

Had to drop the Shaws in Stow, MA to one star only. As many other reviewers have mentioned, the prices, selection, etc at Shaws has been declining for a while. However, this store is in a very convenient location for me, right on my commute. That being the case, I usually stop here for deli and specialty items several times per week. The big draw, for me, were the self-checkout lanes, allowing me to get in and out in a few minutes. Last week, they removed the self checkout lanes, and simultaneously reduced the number of regular lanes staffed at any given time. Apparently they think a long wait is "part of the experience". The one star is for the handful of conscientious and friendly employees there. Otherwise, most of staff is terrible, lousy selection of produce is often not even close to fresh, and meat selections and cuts horrible. Many times I have gotten meat that smells like its going bad and marrow bones for my dog smell rotten sometimes as well! Prices are way too high, frequently find same produce items not marked with any price, bathroom is gross. Customer service overall sucks, but as I said, there are a handful of great employees...too few to outweigh the bad. If it werent 10 seconds from my door I would never go there! I've noticed a big drop in the customer head count at any time of the day. On more than one occaision I have gone in looked around at all the awful stuff and walked out. My hope is that they go out of business and a Market Basket opens in it's place. I have no problem driving to Westford of Burlington to shop at MB now, but a Stow MB would be great. Shaws is competing with Roche Bros or Stop & Shop and failing. The produce is absolutely horrible. Dried out, wilted and overpriced. Better value and quality at Idlewild. read more
