Hannaford Supermarket - Water refill station

Yes, friends, this is it. The third and likely final Hannaford location nearest me with a water…read morerefill station. This machine can be found on the far left corner entrance area. Only slightly annoying thing about this store is where they decided to place their restrooms. It might just be due to me being so used to going to the Hudson location. But it's not every day that Hannaford places their restrooms on the far right corner toward the front of the store. I dunno. Perhaps they were emulating themselves after Shaw's in the Derry plaza. ¯\_( ° °)_/¯ One last anecdote I'd like to highlight is their parking lot design. Not all Hannafords have this. But there's a section of parking lot on the side which leads to another exit way that leads directly up to NH-102E. Complete with its own cart receptacle. It's just like the setup they have at their respective Market Basket and I'm all for it! So, now that I have secured 2 alternative locations to refill water from, I can rest assured that regardless of how many months/years/decades it takes Hudson to repair their broke ass machine, my family and I will not die of dehydration anytime soon. And I'm giving Hannaford in Londonderry 5 conveniently accessible water refill stations out of 5.

I wish I had a hannaford closer to my Boston location but when I am in New Hampshire I will be sure to return. I stocked up on sardines while i was there.

Always a smile…read more The store is always very clean (although currently under reconstruction), and the bathroom immaculate. Prices are slightly higher then other grocery stores on most things, but I never have to wait in line and the quality is fresh. They always have plenty of coverage. I refuse self checkout though and they have plenty of those lanes. I have always had a pleasant experience there.

I went into the pharmacy on lunch to make sure they had me in the system, to let them know I was paying out of pocket, and to make sure they had everything they needed from me. The girl behind the counter was super helpful, let me know they had to order the medication, that it would be in around 11am the next day, and also quoted me $129. Here it is, the next day, and 2pm rolls around and I haven't heard from the pharmacy, so I call. The man who answers the phone told me that they were having issues with my insurance. I replied that I already told the person yesterday I was paying out of pocket. He tells me the cost was going to be $320. I replied that I was already quoted $129. He goes quiet. . . . He tells me that he doesn't know how they got that price, and maybe I should go on Goodrx and find a pharmacy that will have a better price. . . . . This whole experience was a complete letdown.

But I decided that I can give my opinion of the management of Mr. Steer. They are the rudest, most unhelpul people that you can imagine. Not every employee but I am specifically talking about the owner/manager, his son behind the meat counter, occasionally the check-out clerk and even sometimes the deli counter person. I live within a mile of the store and have been here many times. I'll admit that they do have great meat and prepared foods. But it's not worth the abuse that you get from the above named employees, I went there a couple of Sundays ago and went into the store at 3:50, ten minutes before closing, to just pick up some steak tips for grilling. I immediately got some hated looks. They had already taken all of the meat out of the meat cases and the manager was replacing the butcher paper that lines the bottom of the case. I wanted to see what they had but all they could say was "What do you want?" I said that I wanted to see the tips they had, and all he said was "Well, what do you want"? I walked out never to return. I don't know how they stay in business when they treat their customers like that!

You're probably wondering why a guy who lives in the east side of Nashua would come all the way…read morehere for a Hannaford. Only one reason: water. Okay, hear me out for a second. But we recently made the transition from small water bottles (I know, I know) to the 5 gallon refillable jugs. So far as I know, this is one of the only Hannafords close to me that offers a *mostly* straightforward machine that dispenses water in minutes AND....accepts all forms of payment, to include NFC. The reason I say "mostly straightforward" is because if this is your very first time using the water dispensary, payment can be a bit confusing. I must've spent 10 minutes trying to understand how to get the thing to accept payment. As I understand it, you apparently have to scan your phone for NFC payments TWICE. Once to get the machine to ask you to make a selection (pointless), and again to...ya know...actually pay for the water. Could've just kept it basic to the latter, but...whatevs. Btw, the other thing I should mention is that this is totally worth the drive, considering you only pay around two and a half dollars for every 5 gallons as of the time I'm writing this review. Other than that, probably my least favorite thing about this Hannaford is the parking lot and the way its entrances and exits are arranged. Not only is it co-located with a McDonald's (haven't seen this before), but the parking entrance is almost half a block away from the store. In other words, if you had to make a left turn onto Derry road, you'd have to use the exit with the traffic lights for a protected left. Also, having a drive thru right next to your grocery store is pretty cumbersome, but...maybe that's just me. It's your typical Hannaford, only with a really neat and convenient water dispensary located just inside the front entrance to your immediate right. I think every grocery store should have one of these, but I ain't the mayor of Nashua. Hannaford gets 4 conveniently placed water dispensaries out of 5.

One of the managers stopped by and said "I've noticed that you've been waiting here for a long time. I apologize for that. Ask for Christina at the cashier's and we'll take care of you." And they did. Seriously. I thought "ok, they'll knock $2 or $3 off." Boy, was I wrong. It was a substantial rebate. I mean, huge! Just couldn't believe it! Every employee is polite and friendly. Will definitely go back, even though it's a little further than Market Basket!

Cheerful young lady at the entrance was greeting people and providing quarters for those needing one to get a buggy. This store is like all the others, same layout and products (the German Christmas goodies are now in stock), though it is a bigger floor plan. They just spaced the aisles a little further apart so more room to maneuver buggies. All was going nicely until we started to check out. The cashier was flinging our products into the buggy! I thought two glass bottles were going to crack, not to mention biscuits and crackers turning to dust in their bags. I told her I was not happy with her method and she said they do it that way all the time, everything would be fine. Her supervisor was doing the same thing at the adjacent register. They might do that in the Derry store, but never have we experienced such callous disregard for a customer's purchases in the Plaistow store. They seem to forget where their wages are coming from. We were told if anything was damaged, we could bring it back, no problem. So we should open every bag that didn't have clear packaging to see what might be broken? We checked things as best we could as we loaded them into the car (didn't bag in store, just left). Chocolate marzipan bars at least did have clear wrap and one was broken in half. My husband took it to the greeter as he couldn't be bothered going back through the maze, explained the situation to her and said gift it to the manager as an example of how nothing gets damaged. He intends to contact head office. This appears to be a customer service and training issue. Won't be going back to this location.
