I'm extremely disappointed with my experience. Back in 2011, I purchased my wedding band here for $14,000 and was clearly told that if I ever wanted to trade it in, they would honor close to the original value (within about 20%). That promise was a big reason we chose this business in the first place. Fast forward to today I went in with all my original paperwork and documentation, only to be told my ring is now worth $3,000. The explanation? Lab diamonds have changed the market and natural stones "aren't worth much anymore." That's a huge shift from what was originally promised, and nowhere near the expectations they set at the time of purchase. It's incredibly frustrating to be told one thing to make a sale, only for that to completely change years later when you try to follow through. If policies have changed, that should be honored for existing customers who were given those guarantees. Buyers beware don't rely on trade-in promises like I did. If you're looking for a jeweler that actually stands by their word, I recommend checking out Robin Brothers instead they honor their sales commitments and trade in values! read more

My husband came in with a diamond he had already purchased because he didn't like the setting the wholesaler put it in. Together he worked with a guy on a design. I've seen the picture he wanted my ring to look like and the final product they gave my husband was off, very cookie cutterish (pear shaped diamond photo posted). Which is sad since he dropped about $20k. We came in about 9 months later for wedding bands. Although I thought the ring design was off, my husband really liked the guy he worked with on the ring. We went in hoping to work with him again and he directed us to an older lady to work with. She was nice but very short and unenthusiastic with us. We may be young but If she only knew how much we spent on the first ring maybe she would be a little nicer. Anyways, we found wedding bands and we were set. Fast forward an additional three months later I went in to get the ring cleaned before our wedding. I was already prewarned I would have to leave it overnight (which from what I hear is ridiculous compared to other reputable jewelers- a few hours should suffice) unless I wanted it just steam cleaned. I dropped it off and got the bill of over $100! For someone that has spent a huge amount of money with you that is ridiculous. Almost everyone I talk to say if they go back to the place they purchased their ring they get free (deep) cleaning. I was interested in using Shaw for additional rings (anniversary, push, etc) because they were a place I was comfortable with. Now that I hear so much from others that I'm being ripped off, it's time to look elsewhere. We wanted to be a long time customer, but when you treat them like crap and charge ridiculous prices for routine maintenance to your lifelong customers we'll walk. TL:DR - Don't get a repair done here, they take too long and their service is bad I had a really bad experience having my watch fixed. I brought in a Citizen watch that was not telling time correctly. It took them about a month to get the watch back to me and after one day the face of the watch started turning around in the case. I've had this watch for 15 years and it never did that, obviously something they did incorrectly during repair. I brought back the watch and again it took them so long I honestly forget about it. I get a call months later saying that Citizen doesn't make the capacitor that is needed for repair so that they will refund my money for the repair. Again, this is like 3 months into getting the thing fixed. When I finally come into get the watch they immediately fight me on the refund which I said, fine just give me the watch. I receive a watch that still has the face sideways in the case and they didn't even connect the band back together, the pin is just sitting in the band disconnected. I ask the guy if he thinks it's acceptable to give a customer a watch back not put together and he basically said that I'm just mad cuz I didn't get my refund. I don't know if they outsource their repair work. Maybe that would explain why it takes so long. They should just stick to selling and repairing their own merchandise. If they would have just told me they couldn't fix the thing and never touch it I would have a better end result than I have now. read more

I have arrived at Shaw's to pick up my watch. They called yesterday to let me know that it was ready. I got here 5 minutes before opening time....it's 9:55 and they open at 10:00. Two people have signaled that they can't be bothered to let me come in just a few minutes early, rather they'd prefer I stand outside in the scorching heat for "just 5 more minutes". As for their customer service on visits prior, mediocre at best....yet not bad enough to provoke a review. I thank you, Shaw for these 5 minutes you have given me to reflect upon and to inform your future customers what customer service looks like here at your store. At 10:00 I walk in, wiping the sweat from my brow. The man at the register says, "Thank you for waiting." ...to which I reply, "You're welcome. It's pretty hot out there! ...but I'm sure those 5 minutes were very important." I know not if you were being sincere or saying it out of obligation or reflex. Regardless, the heat got the best of me and brought out some sass and for that I apologize. While, in the grand scheme of things this isn't really that big of a big deal...I just can't help but think it would have been a different situation had I walked up dripping in diamonds. Perhaps it's my fault for having the audacity to show up to your place of business without makeup and in workout clothes (athliesure is now a thing-get with the program). The chain of my necklace is very delicate and was broken where the chain meets the pendant. The length of the necklace was 18 inches with a 16 inch jumper loop (as seen on the link above). The salesman reassured me it would be a simple fix to reattach the chain link to the pendant. When I picked my necklace up from Shaw's jewelry, the necklace was now 20 inches long with an 18 inch jumper loop. I explained to the salesperson that I was very disappointed that they had completely replaced my necklace chain without consulting me at all. He looked at me flabbergasted and said they would never make that change to jewelry without first consulting the customer. When I asked him how my necklace had increased in length by 2 inches without changing the chain completely, he was unable to provide an answer and said that I must have not known the original length of my own necklace. I felt belittled as the customer and no one was ever able to give me a clear answer as to what had happened to my necklace to cause it to increase in length by 2 inches. The necklace is not even sold at the length that it measured when I received it post-repair. I am very disappointed in the overall customer service, as the representatives implied that I did not know what the original length of my necklace was after multiple discussions and phone calls. I would have been much more satisfied if they would have just explained to me why they had to change out the chain in the first place and ASKED ME what the length of the necklace was supposed to be without trying to hide their mistakes. Now I feel like I was lied to and possibly cheated because who knows if the chain they put on my pendant is the same quality as the original metal. I would never recommend any of my friends or family to shop or take jewelry here for repairs. read more

I love jewelry stores. I love to look at shiny, pretty things that I'll never be able to afford. That being said, when we drove by and saw a jewelry store that we hadn't visited yet, we made our little u-turn and headed over there immediately. We walked in and BAM you have the entire family staring at you (I'm assuming this was all family since there was even a young 14 year old kid sitting behind the counter). This store is not big. They have about 6 cases worth of stuff, so they decided it would be a great idea to cover every single inch of the cases with jewelery. Literally, it was hard to see where one piece started and the next one ended. It was a mess. The sales people were polite, but it was a little unnerving to have so many people watching your every move. They all sat behind the counter and kept up a conversation amongst themselves, but it was awkward nonetheless. Another reason I think it was all family back there was the lack of professional training. They were all leaning on the glass and covering it up so as we walked by we couldn't even see the jewelery in that case. They didn't even bother moving off the case when we got to it. Plus, (and this is me nitpicking at this point), you don't leave the velvet cases all over the counters to cover up the case. I had to move about 10 different velvet covers just to see what was underneath! This would've never happened at a "real" jewelery store. I'm not sure how great the quality is or how the prices are since no one bothered to really help us, nor could we see any one piece stand out. I was sorely disappointed with the level of service and the caliber of the staff I encountered. My fiance and I went in on Saturday afternoon. I'm on the hunt for a very specific watch for our wedding. Here's the reasons why I'm giving this place 1 star: - Firstly, the sales associates I worked with looked sloppy. I'm not expecting everyone to be wearing white gloves and Armani, but these guys looked out of place in the suits they were wearing, like they were going to a court hearing. - Secondly, the guy that tried to "help" me didn't even remotely listen to what I was looking for. I gave a pretty explicit list of criteria, all of which was ignored in an attempt to sell me something that was in the case, vs. trying to actually satisfy my need. I get it. A silver-toned mens dress watch with a black leather band isn't exactly contemporary, but don't try and sell me a sports watch and try and tell me that i can just swap out the bracelet for a leather band. Also, if I say I'm looking for something with a more classic look, don't bother showing me contemporary watches. It's not what I want. I came here after finding myself in a panic. I got engaged with the most beautiful ring I've ever seen and a day later- my finger was completely swollen and I couldn't get the ring off! They re-sized my finger and fixed my ring in less than 24 hours! It's as beautiful as ever! They did a great job!! AND it was a very reasonable price!! Attempted to sell an old diamond ring with them. the offer that they made me was just ok. I wasn't impressed with the offer, and their justification was even more unimpressive. But what can you do? Shaws missed out on a $5000 sale. They will let you create your own or order from catalogs, but it's just not the same. Another time, I was looking for a pendant, no luck. They just seem to carry average items. This time, I came in looking for a watch (ladies), no luck, but the watch salesman explained how I could go to the makers website and have my choice sent to the store. I did, and he said it would be in before Christmas 2014, I gave my contact number. I didn't hear from anyone, so I checked back. They said they would let me know when it arrived. I have been in the market recently for a new watch and stopped in at Shaw's to take a look. How I had never stopped in previous in my 15 years in Houston I don't know. Kenny Dudley worked with me and was very helpful and quite polite showing me watches and discussing pricing, option, etc. The selection of pre-owned Rolexes is good and I felt comfortable in the space and with the quality of merchandise. My mother and I were out and about yesterday and since we were in the area I wanted to stop in and get my ring cleaned(it had at least been a year since it was last done). With out even asking the associate that helped us immediately offered to clean my wedding band and my mothers rings as well! It took 5 minutes to clean and as we were looking through the cabinets, my mom spotted a ring she really liked. The man came back with our rings shining like new and showed my mom the ring she spotted in the case. The sales man was nice and not pushy about buying the ring, but mom did anyway! There was no charge for our rings being cleaned which was great. This place has always been helpful and the service always great. This is sad to write because my relationship with Shaw's goes back over 50 years when as a boy I would buy coins from Mr. Shaw in his store, previously located on the north side of West Gray. Unfortunately, I can no longer trust Shaw's jewelry to provide honest sales and service. Three years ago I purchased my wife's engagement ring here, choosing a higher end but modestly sized diamond. It was never out of her possession except the times we had been in Shaw's to purchase other jewelry and they offered to clean it up for us. She recently damaged her ring, and we took it in for repair. Prior to leaving it for repair, the young lady salesperson inspected and weighed the diamond and told us that it was not the diamond we had purchased. The diamond we had was a slightly larger diamond but of inferior quality. I was very surprised by this, obviously, because they only time the ring had not been in our possession since the time of purchase was when it had been in their jewelry service room. It seems the diamond we ended up with is not worth what we paid for, and the documentation they provided to me when I purchased the diamond does not match what we were given. I asked them to please correct all this, but they have completely washed their hands of the matter. They believe that the diamond was switched out after it left the store the first time, so now it is their word against ours. All I can say is be very careful if you do business with them. For me, they can no longer be trusted. Such a disappointment that after over 50 years of doing business with Shaw's, they have lost a long-time loyal customer. read more

Real review from a real customer... I purchased a pre-owned watch from Shaw's, although it was not an expensive watch, it wasn't the cheapest either. Now I purchased the watch in good faith, after all it is a very fancy store with a lot of beautiful products. However within the first 2 days of owning the watch, it already was giving me problems. The watch was stopping. So I returned to the store and they checked it in for repairs.... It was out for 2 weeks before they let me know that it was ready. So I had to take some time out of my day again to go there. After picking it up the second time, I noticed that one of the watch's complication was not working. Again I had to drop it off, this time for a "re-work". It only gets worse from here... A few days later I get the watch back. Once I got home I noticed that the service work they did was sloppy, dirt and debris was left on the dial and some of the lume plots were damaged. And worse of all the watch is still not keeping proper time. I went back for the 3rd time and finally decided I don't want to deal with it anymore. Guess what, they have a very strict "NO REFUND" policy. After what I've gone through I would assume that an exception will be made. So I ended up buying another watch that I don't really want because it's better than a store credit I probably will not use because I have no intentions of going back. I am actually in the vintage watch market and active in the watchforums such as RolexForum, Watchuseek and Timezone. I'm not your average watch customer because I know enough and will be sharing my personal experience of Shaw's Jewelry there as well. One more thing, their watch repair work is outsourced and done by a 3rd party. Of course they have to mark it up as well, don't be fooled by the store front sign claiming they repair watches, yeah maybe battery changes. I know almost nothing about jewelry and could have done a better job than the salesperson who helped me. I recently went in to purchase a wedding band, expecting a great experience. Instead, as the two-star review indicates, it was just "meh." Would it have killed the salesperson to give me a smile and congratulations on my upcoming wedding? Would it have been such a burden to ask the date and to make other small talk so he could relate to me on a personal level and make me feel more comfortable making an unfamiliar purchase? Not once did he ask me if I had anything in mind or ask me about my style and taste so that he could make some recommendations. When I found a ring I liked and ended up buying he made no effort to tell me anything about it and I had to ask him the material, etc. Come on guys, this is Sales 101! There is no reason to expect your customers, many of whom likely know little about jewelry and are making a big purchase, to do your job for you. The store did not have the ring I selected in my size, so I had them order it. This was not a big deal, and they said they'd have it in about five days. I called to see if it was in so I could pick it up and was put on hold for a very long time. When they finally picked up again they transferred me to the salesman who had helped me, who then had to put me on hold forever while he looked it up. Please, get your acts together. read more
