Shaw's is not our go-to store for groceries. However, when we can't find certain things at Hannaford, either they are out of stock, or it's an item they don't carry, it's usually Shaw's to the rescue! This Shaw's is one we go to maybe once a month. Based on those experiences, we have never had a bad experience at this Shaws. It's usually very well stocked in all departments, the premade areas are usually the ones that might have some bare shelves. Either they are on top of stocking or they don't sell things as quickly? either way, we have found things we wanted and the dates were never past. They usually carry the hummus we like (Joseph's), they are usually never out of Mt. Dew Zero, and their produce is usually pretty good. The bakery is great for ordering kids bday cakes or cupcakes - they usually have cake toppers in line with current pop culture. They also will give you toppers for free if you buy an ice cream cake! The store is well lit and the music not annoying. This store has less of a "smell" than the the Shaw's in North Deering and is less crowded than the Shaw's in Falmouth. One thing I don't like about the layout is halfway down the aisle splits. The center section is usually chaos with people trying to read signs midway down while turning. The customer service was not notable, expect for the bakery team - they were great. Parking lot is ok, it's shared with other businesses so the entry and exit is usually chaos on the weekend. read more

People seem so happy,not. At the check out. I did ask a man working a the dairy a question. He was honest and very pleasant. My husband and I both work in the retail business. The cashiers are the last people you see. They are what the customer remember. Know wonder the place was dead at 2:00 in the afternoon on a Saturday. read more

I don't know what's happened to Shaw's in the past decade, but this is another example of an extremely run-down grocery store by this chain. I've visited a couple times and... I'd rather just wait to get back into Yarmouth, Falmouth, or Portland for what I need. The produce is extremely lackluster - things that should be in stock, aren't; I've noticed mold on the berries; the greens are usually limp. I don't have a Shaw's Card, so the sales don't mean anything to me. A thing of note regarding their sales though: I bought prosecco from here recently and it was "on sale" for Shaw's Card holders; I bought the same prosecco not on sale from Hannaford a week later for that same Shaw's "sale price". Be careful about their upcharges here. And, also, the whole store needs a deep clean. read more

I stopped tonight for 2 items and it took 20 minutes to get cashed out. While I understand help is hard to come by; the cashier working could have called for help by simply looking up and seeing the situation . The assistant manager was near by and talking to someone - and not paying attention to the environment around her. She finally jumped on a register when the person she was taking to left. I would have preferred to go to store down the road who has self check out and cost a few dollars more instead of waiting 20 minutes. I am actually rating Shaw's Pharmacy, Osco which I have used over a decade. The pharmacist, Jane is truly amazing, She takes time to help in the process of getting my meds by moving through insurance issues and speaking with providers if needed. She is knowledgeable which is reassuring! read more

lady walked up to me with her yellow separator and was smacking it on her hand. she told me to get out of the store because I had been "walking around for too long". I was walking politely so I don't see a problem. another complaint is the dust in this damn store, there is so much! I was coughing the whole time and I could draw on everything there with the dust. I live in the area and I avoid going here, whenever I do the customer service (most of the time) is dry and unfriendly. Also please get new card readers...everytime I go it takes way too long to get my card to work when I have never had this problem anywhere else but HERE. They say its my card everytime when it isn't because again I only have this problem here! They told me to leave the last time I was here, without my items because they were unable to get the reader to take my card...again its not my card and the lady at the register admitted they have this problem multiple times!! read more

I'm not quite sure how to rate a grocery store, but here it goes. My rating is based upon my knowledge of other Shaws grocery stores in the area. I used to live in Portland and would avoid the Shaws there like the plague. They produce was wilted and sad, the cashiers were slow and poorly trained, and they often didn't have specific food items I needed. The Freeport Shaws is NOT like these others. It has fresh produce and almost all the items I've needed. Despite being much better than their namesake counterparts, they are still rather slow at checking you out and I have also waited for over 15 minutes to get help at the redemption area in the front of the store. I can only assume that they are understaffed as this seems to be my constant expectation when shopping here. There is one other grocery store in town, but you have to go through or around the outlet madness to get there. This store is a speedy alternative, with a larger parking lot. Tip: They do have some delicious muffins and granola in their bakery section. They often have great clearance items in the back of the store as well. Also, their house-made guacamole is something I crave! Try it. read more

I asked one of the store Mg team why things like coffee has gone up In Price? She said it's the CDC measures I want to say I don't believe this, pricing for a grocery store. Their job Description covers a lot I'm sure but not groceries items pricing specially not with the shelves still plenty full. I asked them if they could make the letters bigger more clear & visible for us older customers who eyes are not so youthful, she was rude & disrespectful with me, the man when I called back said they might try that in a few days when they are not so busy putting up signs. Wonderful clean store with great customer service and utterly helpful managers and cashiers. We love this store my wife and I. Good deals throughout and accurate cash registers. That seems like a little thing but it's so often we shopped at other grocery and had to go back sometimes getting 18.00 back. Yeah it's not a ton but hey it's 18.00! read more

Rude and belligerent cashier named LUCY makes no effort at customer service and needs to be in a job that requires no customer or service interface! She was unable to effectively and efficiently help the customer in front of me. When I asked if I should go to a different register, she said it would "only be a minute" , however, When the manager came by to assist her, Lucy then said it would be at least five minutes. I proceeded to put my groceries back into the carriage and move to a different register and she snapped at me saying " I told you it would be a minute!" I said" five minutes is more than a minute and it will probably be faster just to move" She proceeded to roll her eyes and huff. As I was moving to the next register I suggested that she turn her light off so no other customer would experience what I did while she was struggled to remedy the problem with the previous customer. She belligerently yelled that she would NOT turn off her light bc she didn't have to. I proceeded to the next register and received great service from Matt who was polite and efficient. As I was leaving Lucy stepped from behind her register to scream in my face belligerently "have a nice day!" So immature and rude! A great market servicing the Freeport area. We stayed for a few days due to weather changing our plans, but it was right next to the hotel (Hampton Inn) and super convenient. It was even open during the snow storm and doesn't close until 11:00 pm, so it's great for last minute essentials, diapers, milk, etc., okay - maybe not essential to you, but definitely for me! Always clean and friendly, w huge plus in my book. read more

This place is my personal purgatory. I have never spent fewer than ten minutes in line since you removed the self-checkout. The "ten items or fewer" is where time goes to linger, wishing for sweet sweet death. ....Used to shop here exclusively (I live in Freeport) -now it's only for essentials. Hannaford in Yarmouth has better selection, fresher produce and neater shelves. The abhorrent bottle & can redemption system in the front of the store (slow, filthy, machines often full or out of order, always took a long time to get help) - I now use clynk & it is much more convenient. Bow st is a great option but it has a smaller, gourmet type selection. read more

Very horrible customer service. Very rude. I had this lady with red short hair (unnatural. Making it clear so who everyone knows who she is) who was old. And unfortunately I didn't have enough money for my purchase so someone offered to pay the rest. I declined of course but they insisted. She had a problem with it and started screaming about it. While my little brother was with me. And had a very bad attitude. The problem is my little brother lives with me and I take care of him. She didn't know my situation but decided to have a major attitude and put her nose up to me. I'm sorry you work at Shaws and couldn't get a degree. Alls I have to say is don't go in her line. OK, so we visit the area every year. I've never been pleased with this store, and I searched for another in the area..when I did that, I read the awful reviews of this Shaws. Bad customer service, exhorbitant prices, etc. Well, I stopped in for a few breakfast and sustenance items. Prices are outrageous but the worst part was the checkout. I was behind a woman with a hundred items, same thing in the only other non-express line. So I had an out 20 items in my cart and went to the express line. The young woman checking out was such a bi^^$T. She couldn't have been nastier and less helpful. I don't understand how this store manager still works there...doesn't the parent company rate their managers/staff? I will travel miles out of my way next time to find another food store. And, I gave her a $2 coupon from one of the items and I just looked at the receipt.,.she didn't scan it. Ugh. read more
