It's a small place so we were able to snag a nice table by the window. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient, too. I decided to get the Lamb Shawarma combo with fries. The food was ready within about 10 minutes, but first we were given a complimentary appetizer of fried pita and sauce. This was definitely a great start to the meal, as both components were delicious. I especially loved that sweet, tangy sauce, and I made a point of holding onto some of it for my fries. (I needn't have done that since the fries also came with said sauce.) Those fries are very tasty, too. They're obviously straight out of a bag, but they've been sprinkled with this really tasty seasoning that elevates them considerably. As for the wrap, it's good. The ingredients work well together and the plentiful lamb is tender and tasty. My only issue was this underlying bitterness that was kind of a distraction all the way through. But it wasn't too problematic thanks to the other flavors contained within (as well as a liberal application of that sauce). Sidra's is definitely worth the drive to Oakville, and I'm curious about some of the options on their extensive menu.

I was quite happy to hear this as too many restaurants will answer the phone and take orders while customers are waiting at the counter. Anyways, I ordered chicken shawarma dinner to go and I noticed the sign for Homemade Lentil Soup. I asked for it to be added to my order and the guy hesitated saying it wasn't fresh and he didn't want to serve it to me. I told him that wasn't a problem and he quickly said he'd make some fresh soup for me. What a legend. Food was made quickly, and when I took it home it was amazing. I've ordered a few times from there now. I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka, chicken Shawarma , their garlic potatoes and of course their Lentil soup! Great food and great services. I ordered a Boss Box of mixed shawarma (chicken, beef) on a bed of salad (since not eating grains) and the garlic and tahini sauce. When he squeezed it on, it appeared very watery, so it let me to believe this is probably the same sauce used for coleslaw (which was an option). The size of the portion us AWESOME. The box is huge. The chicken and beef were dry, though with enough of that sauce on in, it made it palatable. Overall is was decent, the Boss Box size is worth a visit.

I've had two terrible chicken shawarmas in Scarborough that were so damn dry that I've been dreaming of this platter at Laziza on Bloor near Dovercourt. The chicken is always so juicy and full of flavour. And the portions are always enough for 3 meals for me. And the rainbow colours of the veggies always brings me joy to look at! Their hummus and creamy garlic sauce are organic and fantastic. Make sure you get their roasted potatoes when they ask! Not many seats but we got one this time. When I moved to Canada in 1995, this restaurant was within walking distance of my sister's apartment, so we ate there all the time. Back then, if I remember correctly, they had a buffet for around $15 per person, and it was an incredible value. The food was always fresh, delicious, and plentiful. This restaurant became part of many chapters of my life. When I got married, I brought my husband and his family there because I wanted them to experience the food I loved so much. Later, when I had my children, it became one of the places we would visit whenever we were in Mississauga. At one point, we even lived in Mississauga for about a year and a half, and if we couldn't make it to the restaurant, we would order takeout instead. The amazing thing was that the food was just as delicious at home as it was in the restaurant. The restaurant itself wasn't huge or fancy. It was simple, comfortable, and focused on what mattered most--the food. The staff were always welcoming, and everything seemed to run smoothly. To this day, the lentil soup and the kibbeh are stuck in my head. I honestly think they were some of the best I've ever had in my life. Sadly, I can't enjoy the kibbeh anymore because I have celiac disease and have to avoid gluten, but those flavors are still some of my favorite food memories. I also remember that the mother of the family was involved in the cooking. Whether she is still there, retired, or if the ownership has changed, I honestly don't know. Because it has been so many years since my last visit, I can't speak to how the restaurant is today. What I can say is that the memories I have of this place are wonderful. We arrived around noon on a recent Saturday and the place was completely empty. A group of four fairly loud men showed up shortly after us and inexplicably sat at a table near us, but that's obviously not the restaurant's fault. The menu contained plenty of tasty-looking entrees, but I figured I'd grab the dish with the name of the restaurant in it: the Tarboosh ("Combination of shawarma and falafel"). The concoction arrived to the table quite a while later, which was weird considering how empty the joint was, and sure looked impressive. I dove right in. Everything on the plate was tasty but not mind-blowing. The chicken shawarma had a few crispy pieces, which was appreciated, but was mostly unreasonably dry. (The two included sauces helped with that, at least.) The falafel was fresh but strangely light. It didn't really have a strong flavor of anything, really. I enjoyed eating it, but it definitely didn't remind me of traditional falafel. The hummus was creamy but lacking in a strong chickpea flavor (i.e. the concoction was overwhelmed by tahini, essentially). However, once I began eating everything together, I began enjoying everything a lot more. The included bread help, too, even though it was far from the best middle-eastern bread I've ever had. Tarboosh is a mixed bag, that's for sure. If you're in the area, it's worth a try. I don't think I would travel to far to check it out, though.
