I had an early lunch today at Shawarma Box. I ordered a chicken shawarma with a side of rice and a Coke Zero. I don't get anything other than tomatoes so I asked for extra chicken. Plus I got garlic spread, tahini and their special sauce. It was a really good shawarma. It was good and hearty and the sauces worked well with it. The rice was really good too. Because the shawarma was so filling, I only ate a bit of the rice.

After having shawarma with a friend, my brother kept harassing me to get shawarma with him so that's how I got to eating shawarma at 3 different places in the same week. This is # 2, for the record. I bought the Chicken on the Rocks ($8); portion size was tiny, not enough for even 1 person. When the food came I thought they accidentally gave me an appetizer until I checked the box contents. They were even stingy on the garlic sauce. Flavour-wise it's only average so it's not worth the price. House sauce is good but again, I ran out of rice and chicken to eat it with so I could only just taste a bit of it with my fork. The location is obscure too; with Osmow's like 1 minute away there's no particular reason that would entice me to come back here. I've seen other people rate the Saj highly; perhaps next time I'll try that, but for this visit, I was hangry enough to just want to get out of there asap and ran over next door to the safe haven that is Subway.

Here for a quick meal during lunch. I think this place re-branded and the concept now is shawarma in a box. Got the mixed Chicken/Beef on the Rocks aka meat on rice. I think it was $8.99 plus tax. The rice was smothered with nicely flavoured chicken and beef shawarma and drizzled with a mixture of 3 sauces (garlic, hot sauce and a pink sauce). Couldn't really tell what the pink sauce was but when mixed together the flavour was good. Not too spicy like Osmow's hot sauce, but rather a much milder, subtle spice. Colleague got the mixed meat on fries, but I think rice was a better option. Good portion size for lunch and was definitely full after polishing the box. For $10, it's good quick option.

I have not ordered from Shawarma Box in the past. Today was my first time, and I must say that it is delicious ! Seeing as it's a chain I sub-par quality...but I was pleasantly surprised. Presentation was good, chicken was marinated with great seasoning and their sauce was to die for ! Don't hesitate :)

Had the shawarma wrap ($5). Service was fast, staff was nice. The shawarma is okay, nothing special.

I like the whole "box" presentation thing. We ordered for the office lunch and no one was disappointed. Good place.

Then it gets toasted on the flat top - Ask for a little extra time on the grill to make it nice and crunchy on the outside.

We didn't have to wait long before the food was served. The chicken came off the bone so easily, and it was nicely seasoned as well. The dish came on a large bed of rice and a delicious lentil soup, along with dipping sauce. The price was pretty affordable given the size as well. The place was brightly lit and there was lots of space each time I went. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

I am usually that person who does this like lamb as much coz of the smell but trust me when I say, this was the softest and juiciest no-smell lamb I have ever had. It was melt-in-your-mouth soft and packed with flavor! The rice portion was enough for 2-3 people to share depending on how hungry you are. It also comes with fried onions and potato on the rice. The chicken and lamb mixed mandi was good too but honestly after trying the lamb, I was sold! However, I did like the rice on the chicken mandi better than the lamb one. I thought it tasted better. The place was quite busy and it's an order-at-counter system they follow but the food was brought in quickly which is appreciated.

They were also slow to refill the buffet (the kebab took at least 45 mins & the drinks got quite empty too) & they started packing up at 855pm, 5 mins before the official 9pm end. Nothing was labelled except coffee & tea so unless you know what you're eating you'll need to actively find out. Though it was $55, the only seafood items were fried fish (with quite soft flesh), grilled whole fish & odd deep fried shrimp (even less recognizable as shrimp than Japanese restaurant deep fried shrimp [ebi fry]). Most desserts were disappointing. Drinks included with the buffet were coffee, tea, tamarind water?, orange cordial & Vimto. There was live music, but half the tables were smoking shisha so the room got quite smoky after a while. It looks like they put sparklers on birthday cakes (or allow that anyway) which is fun.

The seasoning was nothing fancy but it was good lamb so the simplicity brought out the natural flavour of lamb. Unfortunately the bread got soggy because it was put underneath everything. The fries were dusted so they had a nice crunch. They were also slightly seasoned, giving them a hint of more complex flavour. The meat quzi (lamb shank) came with 2 types of flavoured rice. The shank itself was ok but there was no sauce for either the lamb or the rice so it was slightly dry overall. There was a lot of rice. The shank portion was OK. It was also served with baked beans - presumably the (Maraga) Yegi broth of the day. That was really weird since it was plain baked beans. Tanoor bread on the side was decent - it's just a long flatbread. Raisin juice (zabeeb) tasted like it sounds. The lentil soup was very plain. Otherwise it was ok. While waiting for my order I helped myself to the free hot tea (sweetened to taste), which was pretty good.

I'm visiting Toronto and wasn't sure what I wanted to eat for dinner so I headed to Yelp, read…read morereviews, and chose Palmyra. I'm so glad I did. This is a small, family owned establishment. The family was actually sitting down to dinner at the end of the day when I arrived approximately an hour before close. It was wonderful to see them eating together. I was immediately greeted by one of the employees. He was very friendly and allowed me to take my time. I wanted to try a falafel because I love to try several menu items. He accommodated that and allowed me to order a single falafel patty to try. I was stuck between choosing the Palmyra Platter or the Mixed Shawarma plate because, as I said, I like to try several items. I ended up choosing the mixed shawarma plate and ordered it as is. The falafel was crispy and I could taste the herbs mixed in. The sauce drizzled over the top was the perfect addition. I was so glad I tried it. I was so eager to taste it that I forgot to get a photo. I chose the mixed shawarma plate thinking it would be a more manageable serving for me to finish than the Palmyra platter. I was sorely mistaken. It was easily enough food for at least 2 people. This was well worth the price point. The salad was fresh and crispy with a good variety of vegetables in it. I really enjoyed the vinaigrette they used for it as well; just tangy enough. The chicken and beef were crispy on the outside and tender inside. They had good flavor and were not dry at all. The spicy potatoes were a tad spicy for me but I still ate them. The rice was ok in my opinion. I had enough left over to eat a second time. I will definitely visit here again on a subsequent trip so I can try more of their menu items. Overall this was a good experience for me.
