I first heard about Sharing Wheels when I volunteered for Christmas House, which gives out toys to low-income families for the holidays. Sharing Wheels partners up and donates a bunch of refurbished bicycles to them. If that's not awesome enough, read on. I came in because my bike chain was out of alignment and brake cables needed to be replaced. The staff member, Jon, was super friendly and took it on immediately like a live YouTube session just for me -- even though he did first say, "This is really easy; are you sure you don't want to just buy the parts and do it yourself?" "Nah, do it for me... but thanks for not upselling me when you had the chance." I can now ride my bike again! Better yet, while my snooty cyclist friend told me not to put any money into my old a$$ bike, Jon came from the mindset that Sharing Wheels propagates: Don't add to the landfill if you can still ride the bike! He even complimented my bike: "Your friend is right -- this bike is old and you would do better selling it for parts than ever selling it outright, but it's in great condition and has excellent components, so enjoy it!" I was interested in purchasing a used bike and didn't quite know where to start. I haven't owned a bike years and so I Googled around for a bit and all the information was a little confusing, so I looked up shops near me and this place pops up. I made an appointment through email to come by and basically get fitted for a bike. Alain, the shop manager said that there were limited options with everyone buying bikes at this time, which made sense. I was in no real rush to purchase a bike, but I really loved their cause and what the company is all about! I make it down to the shop and upon entering, I wore my mask, they also have hand sanitizer and gloves to wear for everyone's safety, which I appreciated. As he looked through all the bikes for one t would fit my frame, he pulled out a Specialized bike that I actually ended up purchasing! I was/am in love with it! He showed me another bike, but my heart was set on that one! Alain was so informative and really helped me understand what I should be looking for in a bike and I can't thank him enough. They also hold classes on bike maintenance and I am totally interested in taking one. I definitely recommend checking out this shop if you're looking to purchase a bike! Sharing wheels is under new management. I've donated bikes, done work parties, and even purchased bikes there before. I just tried to donate a Raleigh Grand Prix that just needed a chain and cables, and was turned away. Turned away from donating a good bike. I won't attempt to donate again. Apparently this bike isn't worthy of a homeless person that needs one. It's about money now and not charity. read more

My hybrid bicycle needed new brake pads, and I wanted to change them myself, but didn't know how. I called Sharing Wheels and Alain, the shop manager, booked an appointment for me. I arrived early with my pads, and he didn't make me wait, he set about right away lifting my bike onto the stand. He gathered tools, and taught while removing the more difficult rear wheel and welcoming me to put my hands on things. Alain is an excellent teacher and coach, and supervised me changing the pads myself on the front wheel. Great, dry sense of humor and patience enhance his knowledge and skill. When we finished I asked what I owed, and he said "Nothing, we're a community bike shop." I insisted on making a donation. Another staffer helped me lift my heavy bike back onto my bike rack. It was an amazing experience, I can't say enough good about it! read more

My bike has been broken since last year and my car was needing maintenance which I could not afford so even though I make $0300 every two weeks I made it a point to let Josh know the only way I would pay the money to fix it was if it was writable when I picked it up because I don't know how to work on it nor do I know anyone who could for me he told me it would take him at least two weeks to even get to my bike and quoted me fifty bucks and made it a point to tell me if I didn't come get it within 30 days my bike would be his anyways long story longer about two weeks later I get a call from Josh saying it's ready I told him I would be in the next day to pick it up which I was and when I got there it wasn't even put together so I asked him about that and asked why the brakes weren't connected either which he replied well I didn't do a tune-up and he told me I could go on YouTube and figure out how to do that myself I was obviously not happy so he offered me a pair of brake pads and then I had to ask him to help put my bike in the car for me it is still in my car not working because like I said in the beginning I don't know how to do that also if I could go back in time and not spend the $55 that it cost me so we can be such an unhappy camper read more
