She asked about my day and was very engaging. Unfortunately the pie wasn't the best. To me, it taste like store bought pie, nothing homemade. Since this was such a miss, I highly doubt I'll return.

Great sign to us that people love coming here. We ordered the chicken flautas, shrimp tacos, a barbacoa taco, elote in a cup, and a strawberry Agua fresca. The food was wonderful! My favorite was the chicken flautas. They were very crisp but the chicken inside was so moist. The toppings and the salsa was a wonderful addition. They really need to bottle and sell that salsa. It was some of the best we've had. I'm a non beef eater but my husband said the barbacoa was . He said it was hard to determine his favorite between that and the flautas but if he had to choose it's the barbacoa because it was juicy and very flavorful. It also held together well in the corn tortillas. He wished he ordered more than one. The strawberry Agua fresca was very tasty. It reminded me of a strawberry milkshake. The portions are so plentiful and the menu has so many choices. We are looking forward to trying new things. We were so full we didn't get to try desserts, as it is a Paleteria, but we will most definitely be back!

You order from a kiosk machine and pick up at the counter. Simple enough. They specialize in create your own ice cream, soft serve, specialty cups, milkshakes, smoothies, fruit tea, sparkling/refreshing etc. I ordered a Pomegranate Raspberry Sorbet and Ube Soft serve. Both were yummy but my showstopper was the Sorbet, I added some maraschino cherries and it did not disappoint. The soft serve was bland to taste it def needs some additional topping to pop it off in my opinion, it's more of a base than a solo delight. Prices varies. (But at least I remembered the food photo this time! So I"m not totally on dementia notice yet :) ) But I was having one of those goof-off days, (sorta) spent more than I should have at the World Market (I can't help it! The Sasume soft drinks -ALWAYS- Get me! (the Greatest Japanese invention ever :) ) So I'm REALLY needing Ice-cream. but i mean real ice cream. Then I remembered this place I promised myself I would stop in.. Jilly's. Driven past it a few times, saw it had once gotten a USA today recommendation, and the big sign had "cupcakes, ice cream and coffee" written right there. Go in and there's not really a vibe to the place. There is an ice cream counter and a cup-cake counter, and a couple of soda fridges. The problem is.. I'm going in wanting ice cream, make my way over ot check and there's ONLY ONE tub in the entire case with anything in it. And it's BUTTER PECAN??? I swear, maybe i just need to lower my expectations or something? But then how do I be the best "Yelpee" i can be? Anyway enough about the introspective for now. So I'm here, let's see what else we can have problems with today, shall we? The "coke" fridge has a limited supply of drinks.. I guess the stockers hadn't run yet today? (so -1 star for no ice cream/drinks). Well, it's a heatwave, so coffee's out. and that just leaves Cupcakes.... and wow.. these things are HUGE! And that's just the cupcake, that's not counting the icing on top! Basically, two entirely different layers.. one for the cake and one for the frosting.. (talk about a sugar coma!) Anyway, time to take a pack of 4 to go... (the sit down locale wasn't really much to my recollection, it just seemed "there" as if this wasn't a good day as I don't' recall a lot of the amenities as shown in most Yelpers photos., or I was just too hot to notice. ). so it's grab and go... And I realize, just looking at them; this is not one of those deserts you can eat and drive, so maybe a full sealed rack is a good thing right?) I make it home and wouldn't you know it; I forgot that cupcakes were actually "Stuffed".. Surprise!! 3 deserts in one! Cake, Filling, and Icing! Anyway, I don't even make it all the way through the first cupcake as a whole before I realize... Yep, Sugar Coma all the way! Basically, you've been warned you can order more than 1 cupcake to yourself, but count on leftovers if you do!! Anyway, I finally snapped out of my sugar coma and got around to writing things before i go for another sugar coma (dont' forget, I ordered 4 cupcakes!!). So yes these things are huge and they are priced a little more than usual cupcakes, but absolutely worth every penny So IRONICALLY, if i had gone in for Cupcakes alone... this would be a 5* review. As I was originally going for ice cream (And am so OVER butter pecan), 4 *'s it is at least for me. but we've given you the steps to get your own 5* time at Jilly's!

Honestly, if you judged it by the outside, you might drive right past it. There is one parking spot in front, and then a run down parking lot behind and to the side. The moment I walked in, I felt like I was back in my childhood. The lime green decor, the dark bakery display cases filled with buns, and the small plates of food inside reminded me of the Cantonese bakeries I grew up going to. They also had ready to go meals wrapped up to take home. We bought a bunch of things to try. We had the beef cheung fun, siu mai, BBQ pork baos, sesame balls, egg custard tarts, and one of my favorites, the giant round sponge cake. Everything was fresh and really tasty. The roast pork looked delicious too, with nice crispy skin. The biggest surprise for me was seeing lo po beng (Old Wife Cake). We can hardly ever find it on the East Coast, so whenever we do, we always buy some for my mom. Seeing it here made me so happy. I live in the Metro D.C. area, where we have some really good Cantonese bakeries, so I wasn't expecting much from this tiny place. But honestly, Wei Hong Bakery could definitely give many of the bakeries back home a run for their money. Don't let the outside fool you. If you're looking for authentic Cantonese bakery items in St. Louis, this little bakery is absolutely worth a visit. It brought back so many childhood memories, and I'd definitely stop again the next time I'm in town.

We started with the Korean fried cauliflower and it was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The batter was light, fluffy, and crispy, and the gochujang sauce with the mayo was sweet and sticky in the best way. Since it's a butchery, we had to try the steaks. I ordered the 4oz filet Oscar style. The meat was tender and very well seasoned, the crab was fresh, and the homemade hollandaise really pulled it all together. My husband had the ribeye. It was a flavorful cut, a little fatty (as ribeye tends to be), but exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The steaks come with a twice-baked potato and vegetable (or you can swap for different vegetables). The potato was flavorful but fairly dense. We also did the bread service - it was good, but felt a bit pricey for the portion. We ended with the flourless chocolate torte, which was very rich and the perfect way to finish the meal - especially on Valentine's Day. Overall, the food was good and the menu is solid. The quality was there, but the portions, bread service and sides didn't fully meet expectations. That said, it was still a lovely experience and a great date-night spot.

Food was good. I think the prices for quality and quality didn't meet my expectations. I hope to come back for a different meal time and try it again!

I ordered a smoked turkey soup while hubby ordered up his signature French Onion soup - we also ordered up a 1/2 charcuterie board - good news? The soups were just great, really. We ate 'em up quickly! The charcuterie board? Ok - where to start? The salami and prosciutto were great. The cheddar cheese was way too basic and (dare I say) a couple pieces were hardening up- yikes! Fresh it was not. The other cheese was unable to be ID'd and was kind of "bread like" - not good. But the bread (crostini)? Oh my goodness- hard as a rock. Not good at all. So we ate up the meat, some of the cheddar - and left most of that funky cheese and that hard bread. The hummus and fig spread was great, though - so no issues there. Hmm. So this was a mixed bag. But the surprise came - partly my fault, I know - I asked for a shot of their most expensive Scotch on the rocks. I should have asked the price - just over $100 for a shot! We didn't know this and only wish the bartender would have asked me to confirm the order by saying "the one I have is over $100/shot - are you sure you want it!" - but that didn't happen, darn it. So we paid up - and I swore never to order nothing but basic Scotch going forward! So - the soups and beers were great - but we suggest staying away from the charcuterie board until the bread and cheese selections are tweaked a bit more!
