My girlfriend and I got "fast break" tickets (not general admission, not VIP), tickets were around $85 total because we did presale so it was cheaper. General Parking was $25, wrist bands for rides were $20 each for ultimates rides. We got there 1 hour and 15min early and went straight to event parking. Parking: the guy checking our ticket didn't even look at it. He just asked if it's prepaid and we were like yeah. Then he said all general parking is gonna be off site. So we had to drive to the off site one (they give u a little piece of paper explaining the directions). The initial gate to enter was closed so I just pressed the call button bc I didn't want to get a ticket to pay. They let us in, went down to park where it says staff and vendors parking. Walked up and there were like 4 big buses there, drove us to the entrance of the event. The busses were empty so it was kind of sketchy, they could've put signs on the bus indicating it's for shaqtoberfest. Waited in line, let us in to security at 6:30, let us into the the actual event at 7. Mazes: deadman's warf, midway madness, pirates cove: short cute mazes, not a lot of scare actors, 3.5/5. Average of 3min for the maze walk through. Pumkin patch: has a big bounce house plus slide for the kids, the actual maze was the LONGEST maze there. Prob 7-8min in there. Very interactive and super cool, there's a mirror maze in there which tripped me out. The grey ghost: this has the longest line, you have to climb up about two flights of stairs then back down two more flights of stairs to wait in line about 45min. This maze you go through the Queen Mary herself, very hot inside, small, smells bad. Short not that exciting maze. Food: mid, everything's expensive like an amusement park per usual. Bathrooms: only Porter potty's!! Super gross not very handicaps accessible btw (the entire event bc it's was rough dirt grounds, dust in most areas.) Carnival: 4 rides, Ferris wheel, carousel, bumper carts, the big spinning ride. Actors went on some of the rides with guest so that's cool. Overall: there are actors all around the park very fun, no shaq is not there, good event for the price.

Brought the family here, 2 older boys and my husband, it was day 2 so it wasn't very packed. The lines for the mazes took us about 10-25mins max for the Queen Mary. So worth it! At 8:30, Shaq calls upon all the ghouls to rise, and if you go to the main stage area, you will see dead basketball players, zombie cheerleaders, dolls, and much more. My favorite wete for sure is the clowns on stilts. They all interact with he crowds while the DJ is playing EDM, there's bars and food all around you and places to sit and bar tables to stand. The area isn't that big, so I understand why people said they were done in 2hrs, honestly it was worth it to me and my family, no annoying lomg lines, good music and beer for us! I definitely don't recommend little children after 8 pm, but teenagers are ok. I'm down to come next yr and take advantage of the dance floor. We all had a blast. We ssint try any of the food bit the beer selection w a nt bad: modelos, mango carts and mixed drinks available.

There is a Yelp page for both "Shaqtoberfest" and "Shaqtober Fest", so I am cross-posting for both pages for everyone's benefits and convenience. Shaqtoberfest is your yearly Long Beach haunt. This used to be Queen Mary Dark Harbor, but for whatever reason, they are not doing it this year. Instead, Shaq took over, and made the event scaled down (only taking place next to the ship, in a smaller total area overall), practically all family friendly, and cheaper, if I recall correctly. In a nutshell, this is a Halloween carnival with Shaq's name tagged on. Nothing more, nothing less. It has NOTHING to do with Shaq except his lending his name, and a few images and photo ops featuring his likeness. He won't be there or anything like that, but you already know that. (And it costs $36 or so per person to get in.) The event website would make you think there are more attractions and things to do than there really are. But when you get there, it'll be a huge letdown tbh. Let me break it down for you: SHIPWRECK GRAVEYARD is a scare zone area, and not a maze! It features many props and photo ops, but the real maze is DEADMAN'S WHARF. It features deep sea creatures. There is also a bar called BOAT HOUSE. Nearby, there is a maze called PIRATE'S COVE. Yarrrrr. Next, there is a huge carnival fairground called MIDWAY MADNESS. It features rides and food vendors, all of which requires payment. So that sucks. They're expensive, too. There is also an unnamed clown-themed funhouse maze, and a dragon inflatable walkthrough. Walk deeper in still will get you to the VIP SLAM DUNK LOUNGE and TIKI TERROR bar. Both are foods and drinks based, and are not attractions. What's left are: LOST CITY BOARDWALK, a 1920s-themed maze. A BLOCK PARTY featuring live DJ and various stage performances. And DIESEL'S PUMPKIN PATCH, which is another semi-maze. And that's it. There is no more to do. (Quick spoiler: I actually finished doing everything within 2 hours. This is nowhere near the quality or the scale of Dark Harbor.) All of the mazes are very, very short, sans the Pumpkin Patch, which is decent length. This pumpkin patch also features moon bounce that only kids can participate in. So even less stuff for adults to do. All of the sets actually look nice enough, so visual wise, they are definitely passable. But there is not enough scare-actors hired (or scare in general) for every single area or attraction! I screamed a grand total of ONE TIME in the entire night. And I am a screamer. I love screaming for little to no reason. Positives: lines weren't bad. I never waited for more than 15 minutes. For most mazes, it was a short 5-minute wait on a Friday night. Most scare-actors were enthusiastic about their jobs, and the block party stage's music was pretty bangin'. The atmosphere was certainly sort of there. So what's the conclusion? This is not for horror fans or grown-ups. Even after the witching hour (more on that below), it's still extremely, extremely youngster friendly. The witching hour is a special time for this festival: everything on site will be tame and kids-oriented before the witching hour. But in plain translation, that just means all the mazes and scare zones will be without scare-actors, and children can trick-or-treat in peace. (Trick-or-treating is included in the price of your admission. So get loads of candies! They are mostly cheap candies like Dum Dums.) On the Friday I went, at 8 pm the witching hour, the scare-actors will put on a brief show at the Block Party stage, and disperse into their respective working mazes and zones. But as mentioned, there is a serious lack of scare-actors all across the entire event. This is a uniform problem everywhere, no matter where you're at. There are about 3 to 4 actors TOTAL per maze, it feels like, and tons of dead space and dead time. Empty spaces should otherwise be entertained by animatronics, but many aren't even working. All and all, this just didn't work. Overall, an asking price of $36 pp for an underwhelming experience is not too worth it in my eyes. I cannot genuinely recommend this to most, and will not be returning next year if they decide to do this again. (Hence, the 2 to 2.5 stars rating.) Sure, you're paying half the admission for Halloween Horror Night at Universal, but you're getting less than half the value also. For families, I would go for Knotts Scary Farm instead. PS, parking right next to the venue would cost you $25. $25! That's almost another ticket! If you want to park for free, you need to use the shuttle parking. But trust me, no one is doing it just for the convenience. However, you should, if you don't mind the hassle, since you have plenty of time to do everything and still have time left over during the operating hours. (Reminder: I left after a measly 2 hours. I was over it.) So not a bad idea to waste some time on the shuttle and save $25.

This was my first visit to Shaqtoberfest and it was fun for the most part...except for parking. My bf and I left around 6ish and arrived around 7:50pm maybe a little less. We were not expecting an hour long wait just to be told that we had to drive to another parking structure away from the event. Which took longer because there was traffic from the other cars that also were turned away. We ended up finding public parking which was $20. It was around 8ish by then, and the walk would have been a 45 min walk. Yes, we could have waited for the shuttle, but we just wanted to get there, so we ended up riding the Lime scooters to the event, which honestly was pretty fun! It saved a lot of time and we arrived, finally around 9pm. -- The event itself was pretty cool! Some people were generous enough to give us their VIP passes as they were leaving and we didn't have to wait in the lines for the mazes. The food was good, pricy but good, but what would you expect at an event? I enjoyed the Wack Shack since I love fun houses, and the bumper cars were great too! The Grey Ghost was my favorite! As it is inside the ship. The other mazes had a nice atmosphere to them, I liked that they weren't very short. The Engine room was really cool- overall everything was fun; 4 stars because of parking. Hopefully parking can be managed better in the future for everyone's enjoyment!

This was my first time ever going to a Halloween event with mazes. I'm usually the type of person to get easily scared of things and this place was NOT scary at all. I went through almost every maze.....and if I had a fear level from 1-5, I'd give it a 1. I was honestly bored. I was there for the vibes and I wanted to test out if I can do scarier mazes for next year's Halloween. I think the idea of having a Halloween event next to the Queen Mary is super cool. I just wish it gave me the thrill..

WHY did we have to pay general parking price only to find its over sold to get back on a freeway ramp and follow these directions (see picture?) NOT WORTH IT. I hope we all demand refunds from this! See videos. MORE FUN STUFF! I found them on instagram and sent some a (see attached photos). Their customer service link doesn't even exist A+ for customer service yall!

But sometimes you just gotta leap headfirst into an adventure and hope for the best! The Midsummer Scream Halloween & Horror Convention is held yearly at the Long Beach Convention Center for one weekend in August. Friday it's from 6PM-10PM, Saturday is from 11AM-7PM, and Sunday is from 11AM-6PM. Friday tickets are $40, Saturday tickets are $57, and Sunday tickets are $52. If you're not scared to spend, you can get a weekend pass for $73. If you're truly fearless, the VIP Gold Bat Pass is $199 that gives you priority access to admission (you can enter at 10AM), priority entry for panels/presentations/attractions, commemorative lanyard/badge & pin, and admission to the Saturday night party. We bought tickets for Sunday as it was the only thing not sold out. We arrived at the convention center around 9:40AM and it was packed from all sides! There are two main entrances on both sides of the center, so it really doesn't matter which side you choose. Both sides are split into multiple general admission lines. They passed out free tote bags and there were some people in horror costumes to take pictures with. Speaking of which, if you ever wanted to let your freak flag fly high and go all out dressing up, you couldn't have picked a better place! Loads of fans came dressed up in costumes and make-up - if you think you're overdoing it, you're not! Once the doors opened, the lines were quick to be guided inside (unless you have a bag, in which case security had to clear you). The ground floor had some photo ops and some food vendors. The main convention floor is below but wheelchair accessible (lots of disabled fans were present). They had a map of the area, but honestly unless you're there for a specific thing or person, just roam around! Horror and Halloween fans galore! It gets more crowded the later it gets, so the early fan gets the worm! The Hall of Shadows is its own section and features tons of mini haunted attractions like mazes, houses, and photo-ops. Very low-light and plenty of fog machines so watch where you're going! The Screaming Room showcases short films from around the world. The Black Cat Lounge is filled with cats to pet, cuddle or adopt. Paranormal Pixie's Pumpkin Patch is a gore-free and scare-free kid corner area with performances, book readings, coloring, and other child-friendly activities. Speaking of which, children 10 and under get free general admission to the convention with a paid adult guardian (2 free kids max per adult). The show floor is the biggest area and completely covered with vendors, celebrity booths, horror-themed coffee & treats, and much much more. If you're looking for make-up, they got it. If you're looking for cheap movies to buy, they got it. If you're looking for clothes/costumes/merch, they got it. You'll basically find anything and everything horror/Halloween related here, so make sure to get your steps in! There are also several photo-ops in every crevice and corner, so remember to charge your phone or bring your fancy cameras! We tried the Gorchata (horchata latte with pumpkin cold foam) from Coffinated Coffee, a churro cheesecake from Lunas Sweets and Treats, and a lemonade from a random stand. There are some food trucks out back and plenty of restaurants in the immediate area if you want actual food. We hit up every booth that had a spin wheel for free prizes like free/discounted tickets for Haunted Hayride, Magic of the Jack O'Lanterns, Evil Dead in concert, Street Food Cinema, and stickers/candy. Movie studios and theme parks had their own special photo-ops. Overall we had a blast for our first time at Midsummer Scream! Lots of things to see and do, lots of nice horror fans to interact with, lots of money to spend if you're not careful! Probably the biggest/only downside is that there are literally no places to sit, so be prepared to be on your feet all day! We saw some tables out back near the food truck area, but we were on our way to exit anyways. There's plenty of parking lots/garages in the area for different prices so don't stress over it (just remember where you parked though). We'd love to come back, but maybe next year we'll spring for the weekend passes so we can take our time and strategize better.

Dark Masquerade has scare actors like their usual Dark Harbor season, along with some horror experiences and a dance party. It's open from 7PM-12AM, but be sure to arrive early so you can experience everything they offer. Upon entering the Queen Mary, you walk through the corridors and see glimpses of their horror props to set the mood. It leads to the dance floor (aka The Ringmaster's Dark Masquerade), which is massive and blasts killer dance tracks. You're given complimentary masquerade masks once inside, so no worries if you don't bring your own. Speaking of fashion, it was a mixture of casual and people going all out for the masquerade theme. If you fear you'll be overdressed, there's no such thing here! Some of the masquerade costumes/masks people had were pretty impressive. There were three horror experiences: (1) Gale's Requiem - descend six fathoms deep into the ship to see the experiments of a mad doctor, ending with Gale's performance as she sings for the dead. There's several tables surrounding Gale so feel free to take your time. There's also a photo-op on your way to the elevator. (2) The Search For Mary - you're given a single red glowstick and must make your way through dark corridors as Scary Mary haunts you. While the idea behind it has potential, it's literally pitch black and the glowsticks are too dim so it's a wee bit too hard to navigate. I walked into a wall because you can't see anything and the scare actors aren't helpful in directing any poor soul that gets stuck. My wife got claustrophobic and she absolutely hated a part where you get on a catwalk and they simulate it about to drop. (3) Sweethearts' Slaughterhouse - groups are ushed through a bloody restaurant and must work together to piece together the menu of a deranged chef and his killer kitchen staff. It was fun as it was interactive with others, so play nice and everyone will have a good time. The horror dummies/gore was pretty crazy to see (some of it brings to mind Hellraiser). The experience ends with a choice of leaving through a hallway or crawling through an oven (vent). Our group chose the oven, which is a bit unforgiving if you have weak knees or are wearing any fancy clothes. Fyi there's a slide at the end of the oven so be sure not to fall like a cartoon character (like I did). Overall the horror experiences were cool, but the main thing we loved was The Ringmaster's Dark Masquerade. They also have scare actors on the dance floor to help keep your blood pumping. If you're worried about being the only ones dancing, fear not - once it got going, it didn't stop until the end of the night! It's a 21+ event, so there's bars/alcohol throughout the ship (naturally it's expensive). For food it's really just snacks like churros, pretzels, popcorn, cupcakes, chips, etc. If you want some fresh air, there's a jazz stage outside for a more chill time. They also had hookah tables outside if you feel the need to do that. I hope Dark Masquerade becomes a regular off-season part of Dark Harbor because it's way too much fun to be a one-off! Even if you don't like horror, the masquerade dance party was worth the price of admission. Try not to wear heels though because the ship is tricky to walk through as is (not to mention the grated catwalks). Strobe lights and fog machines are used in parts of the experiences. There's a special merch store located inside if you want a goodie/memento for the night. Dark Masquerade returns for the next 2026 Friday the 13th weekend in March, so don't hesitate to get tickets if you can!

You just walked through it and looked at stuff. There were no scare actors or anything. It was just an empty boat. - Some mazes required you to go up entire flights of stairs or dropped you off at them. It was weird. *certain mazes had accessible entrances but it didn't change everything to my knowledge. - Some mazes were not well-ventilated and really hot. - Having to leave on plywood boards oddly placed across the park's uneven ground made things rough for some. I had to help a man in a powered wheelchair who got stuck in the predicament. There's room for improvement, but it's also a decent haunt considering the talent.

Wow 17th door is back for another spooky season! This year the 17th door brings the fear in what…read moreis probably the most action packed haunt in north america. Every square foot of this haunt is frightfully alive. 17 focuses on great actors and inventive non stop scares with dozens and dozens of monsters throughout all 17 rooms. Makeup and special effects are just amazing. This is a haunter's haunt that attracts the best talent around. Expect to be thrilled, scared, shocked and delighted. These monsters ain't shy, so strap in, you are in for a wild ride! Before you visit any other haunted attractions, visit 17th door first. It's in a league of its own. Sure you can tromp around another huge, overpriced, overcrowded, "just ok" theme park haunt with the same worn out mazes and the same bored rubber masked zombies doing the same tired old pop up gags you see every year, or you can do 17 and see the industry's best veteran scare actors who bring the fright night after night. Easy free parking too right in front of the main entrance. Highly recommend.

Back for round 3 at The 17th Door! I first went in 2015 and then again in 2022. I'll be honest, I…read morewas seriously bummed when I found out there'd be no Field Trip this year....that was hands down one of the coolest things I've ever experienced in a haunt. That said (and without spoiling a thing), this year's production absolutely exceeded my expectations. No cheesy jump scares here, instead they go straight for the deep seated phobias, the stuff that actually gets under your skin. The execution? Beautifully done. Creative, intense, and immersive from start to finish. Still holding out hope that the Field Trip makes a comeback one day. If I had a magic Halloween genie, that's the first wish I'd cash in. Tips: - whole experience is about 45 minutes long - Wear comfortable shoes, you'll be moving, ducking, and maybe running for your life - VIP tix so worth it if you go when it's packed, you skip the line straight to the front - If you're nervous or easily freaked out, grab the mercy pendant - You might get wet in a few spots, so plan accordingly with your hair and makeup situation - And please, pray with me that they bring the Field Trip back, it deserves a resurrection!!!!

Amazing, absolutely amazing, home haunt that a family and a ton of local student actors have put on…read morefor a handful of years now. This was the first year I had heard about it and since one of our beloved nearby Torrance Haunts, the incredible Haunted Shack is very sadly no more, we absolutely had to visit Fairbrook Manor, even if it was a little bit of a trek from Rancho Palos Verdes. The Haunt is open on select weekend nights in October and we went around 8pm on Saturday, October 18th. There was a good sized line at that time but it moves pretty quickly. Parking along the street is tough; they even have traffic coordinators to help guide cars through. I parked not 5 minutes' walk away on Bellflower where there was ample street parking. I'd say our wait was probably 20 minutes. One worker estimated it to be a 30 minute wait when we started and another said 45 (and was offering fast passes for $75 per group). We decided to wait and donated $5/each for the 4 of us. Proceeds benefit the Long Beach Rescue Mission. We loved all the kid actors wandering the street and coming up to glare at us while we waited. Costumes and makeup were great. The maze itself was really impressive and it took a good few minutes to walk through it with some jump scares along the way. The first few rooms were filled with cool, old creepy things and the storyline was good, too. Fairbrook Manor is open from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 18, and Sunday, Oct. 19, as well as Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 from 12 to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. A scare-free, display-only daytime tour will be available on Halloween. Donation bins will remain outside the house until Nov. 2. Even if you drive by on a weekday, the outside decs are great, too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Not sure what we have missed on Friday night, but Saturday and Sunday was awesome. It was a great experienced on both days, but would have been better if we can be able to go all three days. My boyfriend and I got there on Saturday around 5pm. Parkings there are not great at all. We went circling around the area for cheaper parkings like $5, but no luck; then we went to the place across from the Lagoon Rainbow Park. It's $1 per an hour, but way better than $15 for the parking structures. We rather save those parking fees for a food tasting at the event. We came back on Sunday around 7pm and this time we parked at the same place as on Saturday to save us some bucks for food....that's how we do it. When we got in, walked over to the Cinema Makeup School area for some free simple zombie makeup. Didn't know about the Long Beach Zombie Fest until this year. It was a very cool idea and very fun event. Great event opened out for just mainly focus on zombies of all kind and also good for family, kids, and friends; basically cool for all ages. So many people and kids have created their own creativities/arts on makeup and dressed up as zombies. It would so worth it to go for all three days because they have different bands and singers/artists performed each day in the evenings; more like different kind of fun with mazes, music, food vendors, and only cost $25 general admission fee included FREE souvenir E-Photo (which I forgot to claimed), great deal to me. Oh and children 12 and under are free. We were so dead tired on Sunday, but had a great time and very memorable event. Definitely look forward for another Long Beach Zombie Fest next year.
