The hubby and I went on a Friday, which I'm now kicking myself for because I hear there were a lot more things to do on a Saturday. But it's ok, I wanted to see what it was about before completely diving myself into it. I enjoyed looking at all the vendors and what they had to offer. I enjoyed learning about other potential festivities with like minded people. Loved the sights, loved the sounds, love to be among weirdos like me. Absolutely recommend this even.

What an amazing overwhelming time at Midsummer Scream 2023. I will go every year. The vendors had more than I expected, the people who attended where friendly and frighting to those who get frightened and a true Blast was had by ALL at Midsummer SCREAM 2023 !!

They had mid summer right on the dot! Man that day was hotter than the melting flesh on the walking dead. I must admit I'm not the one for goblins and ghouls jumping out and scaring you, but you withstand gore for the ones you love? My boyfriend happens to be a sucks for all things spooky and heart racing, so we ended up at mid summer scream. I couldn't keep my eyes off of the people who dressed up! The make up was amazing and of course hairline close to the amazing outfits. We had the pleasure of walking through isles and isles of awesome custom mask, custom spooky shirts, live fx make up tutorials, diy tomb stones and so much more. Mid summer scream is perfect for any gore gal or guy!

Comi-con for Halloween , a great convention of you like Halloween & Halloween technologies, i do reccomend the golden bat pass you can avoid the lines -- & get in sooner-- strategy: go to the hall of shadows first to avoid the crazy long lines then hit the vendor hall, lots of fun here also , I'll keep mid summer scream on my yearly to do list

We had a great time!! We made it on Sunday but were there for nearly the entire day! This was our first time at the convention so we had a lot to explore! We had the 'front of the line' passes which were more expensive but we made them worth it! We didn't do the haunted houses but the pass would have definitely been helpful for that section. The showroom was really neat. We had some great photo ops with the Adams Family and the Suicide Squad! We also chatted with some of the very talented artists. I try not to buy too much at these events but it is so hard! The art and clothing is sometimes too good to pass up. We made it to the Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights presentation with the directors and that was really neat. It was great seeing what was in store for this upcoming Halloween! We also made it to the preview of Slash, the Musical. It was really funny and the actors were very talented. I'm glad we made it in time to see the presentation. I never thought this type of thing would be for me as I'm not a huge gore and horror fan but they really did a good job making this convention fun for everyone and for all ages!

Complete and utter awesomeness. Elvira was here! She was signing autographs for a fee. Sid Haig was here, too. I had so much fun on Saturday that I wanted to go back today. I also enjoyed shopping here. I bought a couple of prints from Owen Klaas. I purchased nail polish from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. Thank you to Yelp OC (Nate, Natasha and Ryan, as well as Midsummer Scream, for the free tickets. I had a blast! I will update my review with pictures later on today.

Midsummer Scream Halloween Festival at the Long Beach Convention Center took place on July 30-31st 2016. Two day passes were available, but I was only able to attend Sunday. I was disappointed that the yelp booth was nowhere to be found. So , I never got my complimentary bottle opener with my Yelp check in . I'll live....I think... Let me get the negative out of the way first so I can then focus on the good stuff. It was super crowded and hot. The air must have been broken in the main event area. It was so packed people were bumping into each other, I felt like a herd of cattle. Mooooove. There was so much fake smoke from the haunted areas that mine and my friends eyes were burning after about two hours of exploring the event . Less smoke please. I was in the Grand Ballroom for the six flags fright fest panel seated watching the Q&A and an actor in the event came up behind me and yelled in my ear ( in an attempt to scare me I guess ) And gave me a migraine. My ear rang for a good ten minutes and then I had to call it quits because I felt sick. Now the good stuff. Hagen Dazs gave out free ice cream cups served on a corpses foot. Very amusing and great treat for it being so hot. There were tons of booths. I easily spent three hours looking at all the costumes, masks , artwork, home made crafts, makeup booths, spooky foods, and so much more. There were escape rooms , asylums, hall of shadows , Sci-Fi Maze, zombie shooting arcade, and a crafts for kids area. Black cat kitten rescue was in the entrance to the convention center. Guests could play with and adopt a kitten. Awesome! Overall this was a very enjoyable event. I would definitely go again, but I will keep my distance from the characters because that one guy ruined the rest of my day. I understand that spooking is part of the fun , but please don't yell in people's ears.

I was the lucky recipient of a pair of tickets for Saturday to the Midsummer Scream Halloween Festival which was held at the Long Beach Convention Center. This is their first year doing this type of event in Long Beach. If you're familiar with Scare LA, it's very similar. Check-in was easy and we had our wristbands at open. There were panels all weekend long with interesting talks ranging from costume makeup to ghost towns. The convention floor had a ton of different vendors from all over who were selling spooky, scary, morbid items to tantalize the inner Halloween geek in everyone. They even had a full scale maze that involved a chemical outbreak and zombies. Different theme parks were represented too. If you wanted to step up your game in decorating for Halloween, this festival is for you. There were plenty of artists on hand doing makeup as well. We even received free Haagen-Dazs samples on the convention floor. We were there from 11 am to about 3:30 pm so it was a pretty eventful day. My friends were coming back the next day as well to check out the different panels. Definitely interesting stuff if you're a horror genre fan. Thanks to Yelp for the tickets.

Midsummer Scream had another successful run! It was their second year and our second time attending. Midsummer Scream is the perfect way to get a head start on celebrating Halloween! Enjoy a hot weekend in July inside the air conditioned convention filled with panels (Horror Nights, Queen Mary, Knotts Scary, etc), live shows, exhibitors selling goods, Hall of Shadows containing mini mazes, and even a pet adoption! First of all, plan accordingly and allow yourself time to find parking! We took 30 mins to get a spot at the Pike Outlets because the convention lot was full. This year, there was a bag check upon entrance. We were able to bring in our water bottle and I noticed others with Starbucks drinks. There is food available for purchase inside, food trucks directly outside, or walk across the street to Pike Outlets. There is a lot to see and do throughout the whole event. You'll find plenty of creatively costumed guests (yes, you're encouraged to dress up), photo ops and autograph signings (Elvira, Sid Haig, to name a few), scare actors, Halloween attractions, escape rooms, exhibitor booths selling unique goods including soap, art, clothing, jewelry, masks, props and more! I did see a lot of babies and kids, so it's up to you if you think your kids can handle it! Scare actors roam around the entire convention with intentions to scare people. There are also guests who dress up gory or scary. I saw a dad with 3 young kids crying inside the Hall of Shadows which is dark, foggy, and infested with scare actors. We attended the Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights panel, as we did last year. John Murdy and Chris Williams let us in on some behind the scenes info and photos for this years HHN as well as when tickets will be on sale! HHN never announces when tickets will be on sale so that was a big deal for me! We watched Zombie Joe's Urban Death Show (because we saw it last year so I knew what to expect and I was too chicken to try something new). It was different than last year! It's best to go in blind and not know what to expect! Front of line passes will work for panels, shows, and inside the Hall of Shadows for the mini mazes. Just make sure you're in the right line! I've had a great impression of the MS staff since last year when I had to contact them about an issue which they resolved. This year, I asked them a question on Facebook and they replied within 5 mins! Staff at check in was friendly! I've been following them on social media and they always seem so proud and dedicated to what they do. Also, I witnessed a dad and his son thinking they were smart by opening the outside gate to attempt to enter the event, but were abruptly stopped by security! I know security isn't really MS staff, but props to him! Thank you to Yelp and Midsummer Scream for the tickets! If you enjoy attending Halloween attractions or love anything spooky and can't wait for October, come to Midsummer Scream!!

The Line At 8:46am And The Doors Open At 11:00am!

I think most people have heard the expression of "Christmas in July," now Long Beach plays host to "Halloween in August" with Midsummer Scream. What is next? Easter in December? I imagine egg hunting back east in the dead of winter would be almost as popular as a snowman building contest in the middle of the California summer. The better half and I were made of aware of this event by Erica and Jessica after they informed us they would be working at the RestxInxPeace Stall ( https://bit.ly/2OF3Np8 ) which is operated by our "adopted" daughter Lindsay: "Did you have any interest in Lindsay's Halloween Convention?" This was followed by "No pressure." Rohlinism: The phrase "No pressure" usually has the opposite effect! After a short debate, the better half was buying tickets online for Saturday which ran $38, but Lindsay was able to give us a code which reduced the price to just under $70.00 for both our tickets. Sunday tickets are $32.00, a two day pass goes for $55.00 and Gold Bats Weekend Pass for $95.00 which gets you in an hour early both days, front line privileges to panels and mazes and access to a Saturday night party. We arrived in Long Beach at 8:30am and was in line ( https://bit.ly/2Yr9rQ4 ) about 8:46am after we had paid $15 to park in one of the public structures near the convention center. Ignore anything online about needing to get there early because parking is scarce. I counted at least three public structures plus the parking under the convention center so there is no reason to show up early. The event didn't open until 11:00am, but the line started moving around 10:30am. In the meantime, we sat in line and came to the conclusion that even Freud would classify the majority of people there as "weird." If I am in a group of people and appear to be the normal one then you know you are dealing with people that are a few tiles short of a set of dominoes. One of the best costumes was one of the Hitchhiking Ghosts ( https://bit.ly/2T6VGjI ) from the Haunted Mansion. One thing the organizers did well was verifying tickets ahead of time and doing pre-bag checks which allowed to skip a bag check and walk right into the venue. Once inside ( https://bit.ly/2OOyTLc ), the event is divided between two levels with the lower level dedicated to several hundred vendors and the upper level having panels and live shows. The staff handed out maps, programs and recyclable bags and the bags came in handy since our first stop was buying a Poison Apple ( https://bit.ly/2Kh9K7x ) from Lindsay. If you are interested in her apples, here is the website: https://www.etsy.com/shop/restXinXpeace We took some time to look at the panels and live shows, but only one sounded interesting: A Chilling Legacy: 50 Years of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. The time coincided with us getting hungry and hunger won out so we missed the panel. Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) was there doing photo ops and signing autographs, but I really didn't see the point of waiting for a pic since she wasn't in make up / costume. I think there was close to 1000 vendors on the lower level and we were interesting in less than 5 percent of them. After making our purchase from Lindsay, we started wandering through the stalls and ran into the cutest bunny ( https://bit.ly/2ZvC1wn ) we had ever seen. Seeing the Mystery Machine ( https://bit.ly/2YGayur ) from Scooby-Doo brought me back to Saturday mornings as a child watching the show religiously no matter how many times the episodes repeated. For those of you who are into Yard Gnomes, one of the vendors ( https://bit.ly/33lLPvc ) had a Gnome Zombie Apocalypse on display. One of the more interesting exhibits in our opinion was the Happy Haunts Museum ( https://bit.ly/2YHOdg6 ), but this is not affiliated with Disneyland. The stall had a replica of the sign ( https://bit.ly/33fvPef ) posted while the mansion was still under construction, a board game ( https://bit.ly/2GO0uFH ) and other memorabilia from the 50 years of the Haunted Mansion. Next to the museum was a Honda Fit ( https://bit.ly/2MEAfp5 ) in a custom Haunted Mansion wrap with a small coffin in the back. Another of the more interesting exhibits was a full body make up demonstration ( https://bit.ly/2YDneyd ) and I have to give props to the three subjects being stuck standing still for hours on end. We played Spin the Wheel ( https://bit.ly/2Kq6Zj1 ) sponsored by the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride and both won 50 percent off tickets for the event. I felt the Hall of Shadows was a letdown with the mazes having Disneyland type lines without the Disney magic and the Halloween displays were hit and miss. There is plenty of food to be had between the food trucks, several restaurants across the street and vendors on the lower level, but I didn't seem one food item themed to the event. I saw some interesting things here, a few things I wish I could unsee, but unlike most horror films, there will be no sequel to this event!

Ask the Community - Midsummer Scream

Are you able to bring in your own food and water?

No outside food or drinks are allowed inside. They have food vendors inside, food trucks outside and several restaurants in the area.

Are there a lot of experiences you have to pay extra for inside or is everything included with your admission?

Most are included with admission. I would probably suggest buying the VIP package it's worth it if you don't want to wait in line for long periods of time.

Can you buy a ticket at the event or do you have to preorder online?

You have to pre-order tickets online.

Do people cosplay at this event? I do not want to look like some kind of weirdo 🤣

Yes

How large is the experience part of the convention? I'm more into the mazes and haunted attractions than the pop up shops and vendors. Would it still be worth the price in this case?

The experience section is fairly large (about 1/3 of the main floor). The experiences were smallish, though. Don't expect Knott's Scary Farm. Still fun, though.

Would you recommend this for 11 year old kids? Is it too gory and scary?

It is gory and scary - if your kid is afraid of this stuff, we wouldn't advise bringing them. That said, we do have plenty of kids in attendance, and an area with crafts and friendly monsters just for kids and kid-like adults to enjoy.… Read more

They also had food stands and sold food from the dilapidated building at the end. There seems to be a following for this stuff. There were lots of people dressed up in full pirate regalia with their eye patches, hots and swords. It's fun to watch. They also do a mock pirate battle with some of the local sailboats. The only downside would have to the food. At least the food we had. I had a salmon burger that didn't have much flavor and my wife had a turkey leg that didn't seem like it was cooked all the way. But they also have baked potatoes and it looked like that fish and chips were the most popular. So overall, it's something fun to do for a couple of hours to people watch and drink some ale.

They move us then have us move back because they messed up us and have no idea what's going on. I ask again for the proper table set up a 3rd time. It takes 15-20 mins to get a beer while my son gets his drink at least. If you can't handle a busy night of sports you shouldn't work at Hooters. Probably the dumbest group of waitresses I've ever seen. They can't even get their original hooters style wings order right and brought out Daytona 2 different times. Took 2 different waitresses and a manager to figure out how to put the most popular ordered wing order in the history of Hooters in with the kitchen. Yes, it was overpriced ($20 for admission and then you pay for each item, which ranged from $10 for 5 beignets to $40 for a lobster tail with garlic noodles. Each drink ticket was $10). Yes, it was unbelievably crowded (approximately 1 hour per line). Yes, there wasn't as much seafood stalls as you would expect in a seafood festival, and I only saw one stall with a $5 sample. However, it was still nice to walk around. They have stalls with some samples and items to buy (beef jerky, jewelry, etc). If you have friends, you can take turns waiting in line and exploring the festival. The food quality was surprisingly good. Most of the lobster items we had were tender. Here are my thoughts: Lobster tail with garlic noodles: 4/5 - $40. Taste wise, the garlic noodles were so savory. The lobster tail was tender. My only complaints were that it was cold, and the lobster tail was tiny. Beignets: 4/5 - $10. so hot and fresh! We got the ones with chocolate and strawberry. Would have loved more chocolate drizzle Louisiana fried fish: 4.5/5 - $15 (they ran out of fries, so the price was $5 less). So hot and crispy. Great amount of fish for the price Mac attack shrimp bowl: 3/5 - $15. Comes with three fried shrimp on top of Mac and cheese. The shrimp was tasty, but the Mac and cheese needed more cheese Lobster grilled cheese: 4.5/5 - $20. Super delicious with a good amount of lobster. Some parts needed more cheese I only had one bite of my boyfriend's Connecticut lobster roll so I cannot make a good judgement. Overall, I thought it was a fun festival to check out if you're ok with blowing off quite a bit of money and don't mind waiting 1+ hour for each food item. Parking is also not easy. This year was a bit better organised because of the much closer all the vendors were, although one of the vendors ended up not showing up that year unfortunately. We didn't know until we showed up the first day and realised that the vendor was not present. As usual, parking is free for 2 hours at the nearby parking structure by Ross. And, like last year, I give the entire event a 4/5 stars primarily of the fewer vendors and the lack of notice of vendors dropping out. I also knocked a star off because cars were still passing by on Pine between 3rd and 2nd, and wish that that had been blocked off for pedestrian safety and accessibility because vehicles aren't really stopping at the pedestrian walk signs on Pine, despite LBPD being there - not that they are of any help anyway (something never changes with them, as you can tell).

The merchandise is typically everything you normally see at an event like this: All-natural body creams, artwork, candles, t-shirts, and different types of jewelry which is my favorite thing to see. I bought a couple of types of jewelry (a magnetic bracelet for $20 and this unique necklace for $30). Overall, it's nice and maybe I'll come every 2-3 years. It's difficult to find parking.
