Because I had to wait about 3 more days than expected to receive my funds for the arrangement I was informed to change the date. I chose not to do this and I switched funeral homes. I asked how much did I owe so they could have my daughter transferred i received a 2,000 amount on a scrap sheet of paper. There was no apology or empathy. After I transfered my daughter I learned that I was being charged for things that were not done for her. I did receive 300 back. However I asked again for an official estimated bill. To this day I never receive it. It was not just about the money. I understand this is a business. However the attitude of the person handling this services lacked any kind of compassion. I think before they pick a body up from the hospital they should say of everything is not in order right now we won't help you. By the way the other funeral home was paid with no problem.

My Mom Transitioned after a long illness and several months in the hospital. Her illness had really taken a toll. Lisa asked for a picture and I am pleased to say they did a great job. I found myself in the unthinkable position of needing cremation services for my mother. I…read moreoriginally chose another place but when my mom actually transitioned they didnt answer the phone. So I called my back up option and boy am I glad I did. They quickly came and offered their condolences. They were very sensitive to us. They even told us to let them know when we were ready to close the bag. Upon leaving they gave us a card and told us to call to set up a time to come in. The following day my brother and myself went to the Steinbauer funeral home in Solon to meet them and pay for our direct cremation (unbeatable price btw). They were professional, helpful and informative throughout the whole process. The guy that lives on the premises (tim maybe) even offered to get a lock of hair for me. Something so small and intimate yet I was to bewildered to think of it but I am so glad I have it. They walked us through the process and gave a us a loose timeline on what happens next. I already had an urn and cremation jewelry (they did not mind putting ashes in the extra pieces) to leave with them. The day of the memorial I went to pick up the urn but there was some confusion and it wasn't quite ready. I was able to take the urn with me to the memorial but would need to return for the paperwork. The guy that lived on the premises (Tim maybe) said we could stop by after the memorial regardless of the time and he would take care of us. We showed up at about 1030pm or so and he was so gracious. I would say that they went above and beyond for us and I would recommend their services to anyone.

I was in the funeral industry for years so i understand what is needed for good customer service and to help a family have arrangements completed efficiently. Took hours for them to come to transport the body to the crematory. I had to track down the funeral director for the paperwork needed for cremation to take place. The remains were not ready when the funeral director said we could pick them up. I had asked for fingerprints to be obtained and after many negatives i wouldn't believe they would even be hers. Don't use this service unless you want more stress at an already stressful time.

Mr Jones known forever in my family as "Dr. Jones". Was masterful in making our casket selections; insurance details; hospital coordination; and most importantly being fair on the pricing. 3. The limo driver (can't remember his name) was courteous and had such a pleasant disposition. We felt well cared for the whole day. Here i am again posting yet another very negative review of this funeral home about a loved one…read more Ben Rancman was absolutely horrible yet again. My aunt passed away, my cousin lived in another state. She communicated with him the obituary and even gave to him in writing. He posted the wrong day she passed, posted a photo of her from god knows where he got it, after she already gave him two pictures from her own collection and he never posted ANY thing from her personally written obit. Nothing about her having a family (children or grandchildren), only times, and dates. Then when she called about it, he told her to stop making changes as he was going out of town. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. How do you talk to someone like that for real. It was quite the embarrasing obituary to say the least. No guest book for anyone to sign anywhere. At the funeral itself, he looked like such a slob as well. Very very unprofessional place of business to deal with. Hire a secretary or someone to do all the paperwork for you. Stop taking peoples money for yourself and skimping on the deceased. Again i will personally say it, Berkowitz all the way for my family now and forever. They care about the people they deal with and are so kind and professional from start to finish. This guy is only out for him and the almighty buck. Stay clear please !! Two bad experiences within months of each other. One other mentionable thing, if you go on their website, he himself posted a review about a family member like no one knows who he is or his name, like he was a customers family member. Pathetic. If i could post no stars i would, trust me.

IMO no one should have to, especially at a time of loss and grief, be looking up licenses of…read morefuneral homes and so called funeral directors. But we do. I only found out after the fact. My sister and I were conned by Ben Ranceman. I don't even know where to begin. He was impressed that our father at age 105 was probably the oldest Jewish War Veteran in the state. And then did absolutely nothing to honor his service beyond having some woman had us a prefolded flag at the gravesite. Claimed service members were not available or could not get their uniforms in good order in time. He told us a story of how all the rabbi's got together to determine what a fair price was to officiate at a funeral. $600. Only guess what? As long time members of the temple, the rabbi's services were provided. At no additional charge. Due to our fathers many volunteer efforts with a variety of organizations, we made it clear, since it would be short notice due to timing of the funeral, that the notice should go in the local Cleveland Plain Dealer. He ignored us and ran it in the Jewish News, I suspect, so he would get his firm's name in print. But because the Jewish News is a WEEKLY publication, one would have to be looking at their website to have seen the notice prior to the actual funeral. In other words it did not publish until days AFTER the funeral took place which kept people from knowing and supporting the family as well. Many of the organizations our father volunteered with were not faith related and so in the end, although it couldn't be fixed, so to speak, we did opt to run the notice in the local newspaper all on our own. Consequently a smaller turn out which in turn resulted in our having to pay for refreshments we ordered for more than was needed. The "guest book" and other items were invoiced after the fact, and listed at ridiculous inflated dollar amounts and then he acted as if he deducted the price because he gifted them to us. It was a vinyl ringed binder and not even one page was filled. I for one had no idea of how to get to the cemetery and there was no procession as one would think of. Just hoping to follow the car in front of us; no offer to have the immediate family driven. Very awkward in handling of the casket as far as pallbearers. At age 105 there were few people young enough and strong enough for this task, however much an honor it was. At the cemetery we were handed a shopping bag with advertising/name of the funeral home on it and inside was the "guest book" and a shiva candle. We do not use lit candles in our home for safety reasons. And the guest book was a joke, So I took those items in the shopping bag up to the funeral home location after hours, and left it outside in an alcove, in hopes it would be recycled. The so called funeral director then referred to me as unhinged when he came to find the contents strewn about and wondered what I would do next...throw a rock through his window? He also wanted to exploit our dad's name to his advantage and wanted to create some sort of fund or something with an insurance policy. I forbid his using our father's name or likeness. In short this is imo a very unprofessional operation. BE SURE to look up the "directors" license and/or that of the funeral home before proceeding. TWO months later when the death certificates arrived the funeral home LISTED ON IT was not even this funeral home! It was a place called Godorhazy in the heart of the city of Cleveland. I cannot even put into words how upsetting it was to learn my father was taken out of the area to a place I had never heard of...in fact one I am not sure even abides by Jewish traditions. I have since learned pretty much any REPUTABLE funeral director has the ability to provide services of any faith. PLEASE note this state of Ohio has a Board of FUneral Directors and Embalmers and you can file a complaint via their website or by other means. It is their job to investigate. No one should have to endure what we did.
