A fact we didn't learn until after his passing. We chose Watson Funeral Home on 109th in Superior for his services. An agreement was made that if we paid in full by December 4th, we would have his remains (we had to choose cremation) and 100 obituaries ready to be picked on the December 6th, as we were having an intimate memorial service for him on December 8th. We paid in full on December 3rd. When we called on the 6th to pick up his remains and obituaries, we were told that neither would be ready until December 10th, without remorse or apologies. Our family was forced to have a Memorial without our Father's remains. The added stress this added to an already stressful situation can not be put into words. Hoping you all can help us shed some light on this tragedy and Watson makes it right some way.

We did not have a private family viewing of the body as they did not have my mom ready until the start of the public viewing. Fortunately they did a great job with her appearance and that is where the good services end. We were not advised as far as ordering flowers and was not aware of the process until the morning of the services when we were asked "have your flowers arrived yet?" So we had to scramble and go directly to a flower shop and pay for flowers. We did not receive the final paperwork showing the itemized billing for services until over a week after the service and after having to call a few times before it was done, this is something that is usually done at the time of planning or definitely prior to service. We were asked if we wanted the obituary in the newspaper and we said yes but the funeral director never contacted the newspaper and the obituary did not appear on the funeral home's website until the day of the funeral and stated that my mom was 53 years old instead of 71! Due to my dad's military veteran status, he was made aware of a burial site that would cover his future burial and enable him and my Mom to be buried with adjoining plots. My dad contacted the burial site and made the arrangements which included purchasing the casket vaults from the site. When the funeral home director was made aware of this, he appeared angered at the fact that my Dad had made the arrangements himself which meant we would not be purchasing the vaults from the funeral home (which they did not offer the type needed for the double casket burial upon my Dad's passing in the future) and told us that we would need to pay the burial site out of pocket directly, and separate from the funeral home's services since we didn't go through the funeral home. The death certificates that were paid for, were not received until over 2 weeks after the funeral, because they had not ordered them. Then upon receiving them, the funeral home had misspelled the name of my Mom's dad and said we would have to pay again if we wanted new ones even though they made the mistake. Families dealing with bereavement should not have to deal with these types of headaches from the funeral home. There were other details that were not discussed or asked from us and it was a very disappointing experience.

(Enough dad jokes) It is no coincidence that it sits right next to "Little Italy". Neither one would exist without the other. All the stone cutters, masons and sculptures that created most of the fabulous mausoleums, crypts and works of art that highlight the cemetery were brought here from the old country and settled there to do their work. Having been born and raised on the south side of Cleveland I have driven and strolled through the pathways of this mesmerizing place more times than I can count. My family came here in every season. My grandparents, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren have all done the same. "Lake View" is much more than just a cemetery. It is far more like a park. A park filled with beautiful landscaping and art. Just about every important industrialists, politician, philanthropist, business men and women of every ilk from many generations is there. President Garfield's monument is both beautiful and imposing. The chapel of Jeptha Wade is amazingly beautiful inside and out at the edge of the lake. The tallest obelisk in the cemetery belongs to John D. Rockefeller. And everyone knows who Eliot Ness is. And the list goes on and on. The groundskeeping, landscaping, gardens, trees, flowers... everything is gorgeous. It really is a wonderful park. You can and should spend some time there. Take friends and family. It really is amazing.
