Several months ago, I visited this eyebrow shaping business that i have been a customer of for over 20 years, but unfortunately, my experience was not a positive one, which is why this review has taken me so long to write. You see, while I was waiting for my service, I was next in line when a customer of the same culture as the employee who was supposed to help me started speaking with her in their language. The employee then told me I had to wait longer (even though it was my turn) and that she was going to assist the other customer first. I felt very uncomfortable, hurt, upset and discriminated against. Moreover, I noticed that the business has lost several good employees over the years, whom were like friends to me, which is concerning and may indicate deeper issues within the company. I have NEVER gone back after the negative treatment I had experienced. I am using the balance of the money I had bought in gift cards at another location. I hope that the management of this business takes steps to address these issues and ensures that all customers are treated with respect and fairness, regardless of their background or ethnicity. If you are thinking about going here; be prepared for messes. The people that work there are great. But their system and process is absolute garbage. I purchased a groupon and used it a few times. I paid the full price. The few times I used it everytime I was there at least 15 minutes waiting for them to call a head office that doesnt pick up to validate it. They are always trying to sell you gift cards, makeup , membership etc , as soon as you sit in the chair they begin with their marketing strategy. Honestly it's a hit or miss with this place. Some days I leave and feel great and some days I ask myself why did I come here again?! it's quick and convenient and the price is affordable but you never know how your eyebrows are going to look after. You have to be very specific with what you want and even then they might mess it up. I've been trying to find a new place for eyebrows but everyone charges so much nowadays so it's $12(plus tip) compares to $30 or $35 ( plus tip). Once I find someone who can do my eyebrows really nice I will most likely not be coming back here. It's just convenient because of the location and hours. I have been coming to shapes for several years (since I was a teen) now. But recently I got my eyebrows done and was nicked and cut for the first time. I didn't go to my usual brow artist. Other concerns arise from this, as I see others also complain about the same issue. How are they properly disinfecting their tools to prevent the spread of blood-borne illnesses? While I was there, the employee doused the tools with a liquid, but it didn't smell like alcohol at all. I wish they had a proper way to keep their tools sterile if they are touching people's nicked and bloody brows with them. Unfortunately, I won't be coming here again. read more

The staff was less than welcoming when I walked in, despite them being pretty empty when I got there, and were unprofessional. While in the middle of getting my eyebrows threaded, one of the other workers came up to the woman who was threading my eyebrows and started gossiping and talking poorly about other people - and stayed talking the whole rest of the time! It was highly uncomfortable, especially for something where I'd like them to be paying attention and not passing along gossip like bored high schoolers. This place was great. Keyword: was. Often times if the right workers are there you will leave feeling great, and take selfies all day of your new brows. Some days you'll leave asking should I ask for a redo, why did I come here. Lately it's been the latter. Today was the worst experience. The lady simply sat me down, told me to extend my eyelid and she threaded the eyelid. That's it. My eyebrows weren't even threaded or touched! I still left with a unibrow. The lady only took 3 minutes and said she was done. Normally when they're done they'll hand you a mirror and see if you like it. This lady didn't. I stared at her thinking she wasn't done, and she was like "I'm finished go." She's probably new because I never seen her before. Went in on a whim after I couldn't take my overgrown brows anymore. This place was close to where I was but I don't usually come here. Initially, the threading wAs quick and painless and I thought "wow, she's doing a great job" because it usually hurts a lot more if I don't go regularly. Then I realized why: she proceeded to pluck my eyebrows for longer than she threaded them. Personally I hate places that claim to thread and only proceed to pluck the majority of your brows. Maybe it's just me but it wasn't what I expected to pay for. I left unimpressed but hell, at least my brows looked better. Wasn't a total loss. I don't think I'll be back here. Ps. Quest in canceling my membership: - They charge me on the 25th of every month. I called October 20 requesting to cancel my membership. Customer service rep took down my name and credit card number and assured me my membership is now cancelled and I would no longer be charged. - October 25: I get a charge on my credit card bill from Shapes Brow Bar. I call again on October 28, same rep apologizes, tells me he'll put a refund in and it'll be credited back on my card in a few business days. - November 4: Still no refund. Call back, rep tells me he's busy with something and will call me back in 30 minutes. 3 hours later, no call back. I call again, (different) rep checks on my refund status, says he will put in a refund request and it should show up on my card in a few days. I asked why previous guy never called me back, rep says "he was busy with something." - November 6: finally get my refund. Had my credit card company block any future charges from this merchant, as I don't trust that they won't charge me again. Super, super unprofessional and shady business. If you love the person who does your brows here, go to them but pay cash. I would highly advise against giving this place your credit card info! read more

I used to go to shapes brow bar all the time when they were located on the second floor of the Burbank mall. I went back thinking that it would be just fine I have never had a problem before. First it took me some time to find the place because the display now says RMLA instead of SHAPES. I was on my way out and found it and to be completely honest I regret going in. Yes eyebrows are supposed to be sisters not twins but my eyebrows look like distant cousins. The tail of one of my eyebrows is so thin and arched very differently. I will never be going back. Great service but unfortunately this location is out in the open on the bottom floor with little privacy. My teen would rather wait until it has a propper salon establishment to get her eyebrows done. Warning!!!!!!!!! I wanted to stop my daughter's membership so I spoke to a man that answers the phone at this Shapes Browbar location. I cancelled it in February 2018 and I was still charged in March. So, I called in March when I noticed the charge on my bank statement. He told me to wait 5 days for the charge to be reversed. 3 weeks later (3 calls later) the charge has not been reversed. I called again and was told they dont have a record of me calling 3 times. It's difficult to cancell the membership. This is really bad buisness. I have never had problems when I have been here previously with the shape of my eyebrows or having extreme redness or pain. This last time I went in two weeks ago was awful though. It hurt more when she was doing it, like it was a rubber band getting snagged on my eyelid. You can see the result in the picture where it actually broke the skin in multiple places. When I looked when I was there I couldn't tell because of my eye makeup. The other eyelid was ok, but I now have a small angioma over that eyebrow that is new. When I paid the staff seemed annoyed that I just wanted to pay for the service instead of getting a gift card. This review is from a guy's perspective. The list of questions I would ask anyone (male or female) considering the services of Shapes Brow Bar are: Do you enjoy PAIN?!?! Is your face (especially in the eyebrow area) fuzzy and unkempt? Do your friends use the word "uni-brow" around you so much that you are uncomfortable...like they're trying to hint at something...but you just can't put your finger on it? And if you did put your finger on it, you wouldn't know because your eyebrow hair completely engulfs it? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then I recommend Shapes Brow Bar. I am not comfortable enough with masculinity to go there alone. But I have gone twice with my wife on date nights. The ladies working there never made me feel uncomfortable. The only thing that made me feel uncomfortable were the lofty and judgmental looks I got from people who would have been otherwise bored and un-entertained with their visit to the mall. BTW- To all the easily amused mall shoppers who have never seen a guy sitting in a brow bar - you're welcome. The chairs are comfortable. The prices are affordable. The ladies at the front desk didn't get my humor. The first time I went there, I had a full beard. With a straight face, I asked how much they'd charge to thread my beard away. Only reason why I am giving this place 1 star is because of the price hike. I have been a loyal member since they had their little kiosk. I loved getting my brows and upper lip done with Armovina and Jackie (both amazing). I received an email saying that effective next month my membership will double due to rising cost, seriously, double the price???? I had to cancel my membership because I cannot justify paying double ($30) monthly for just threading when there's another threading place upstairs called Nora where they only charge $7 for eyebrow threading only. I noticed that this place had recently opened and stopped in for a quick eyebrow wax after lunch with a friend. I usually go to Anastasia, but thanks to the difficulty in being able to get an appointment recently at my local, I thought I'd go here just to get stray hairs removed. When I finally got into a chair, I told the lady who was going to do my brows that I just wanted a quick clean up, and all she said to me was, "Eyebrows?" So I said, yeah, just a clean up, take away the stray hair, etc. No reply. Evidently she thought a clean up meant removing pretty much most of my eyebrows. I've now got super thin brows that just don't look right, and believe me, I didn't walk in with thick, bushy eyebrows! The place was full and super busy, so either the customers have lower standards than me or they love the Marlene Dietrich look. It was cheap, but I'd say skip it.
