Stumbled into this gift shop while visiting Berkeley. Had a good chat with the Tibetan owner. Jewelry, rugs and art all imported from Nepal. All their merchandise is beautiful and exquisite. I picked up a few things for my mom - a shirt, necklace and a bracelet. Everything came out to be around $50. The owner carefully wrapped my gift and gave me a business card and I was on my way. If you're in the area, this is a great place to pick up authentic stuff from Nepal via a great family owned business. read more

The quality of the stuff here is just so cheap. Bought a blouse and a pair of cotton pants, both had threads hanging out after wearing them twice, beads fell off after just one hand wash. Everything is wildly overpriced, has to be a 600% markup. But the worst part of this place is the guy who runs it. Not sure what's wrong with him but he is so rude to customers. Check prior reviews. He yells at children (!), at moms browsing the clothes he literally leaves hanging outside the store ("no touching!!!") And apparently you aren't allowed to talk on the phone within 20 feet of his store, even if you're standing outside. Dude thinks he owns the public sidewalks. Anyone who treats people this way doesn't deserve our business. read more

Lobsang's shop has such an amazing energy! He has great products and is a super kind soul. Very friendly and welcoming , great conversation - Lobsang was generous in sharing stories. This was a wonderful experience. It is the largest Tibetan store in town that I have been to, and overwhelming as much if not more than the typical Tibetan type stores. Lots of clothes - silk, cotton, linen also bath stuff - silk soap and scrubbers Friendly attentive store ppl :) *Note on ahimsa/peace silk Even if that particular cocoon wasn't killed, majority are in the farming process, either by heat treatment or starvation. The shop itself is wonderful and the goods they sell are unique. Everything is hand-made and imported via personal shopping trips to Nepal where the money you spend pays many very talented people who need the income. It's one of the few places I have ever found which caries a very large assortment of singing bowls or "bowl bells". Everything is of the finest quality and everything has a story - just ask! The owners are instrumental in providing much-needed help to parts of Nepal where the earthquake has caused immeasurable sorrow. Don't pass up the opportunity to at least have a look around. I had the worst experience today at this place. The young man who worked there screamed at me as a walked in. I politely asked if he had a mask since I had forgotten mine at home. He would not let me finish my sentence before yelling get out of my store. I was under the impression that stores provided masks in these situations. He was rude, aggressive, and patronizing. He literally cut me off every time I started to speak. I will never step a foot in that store! Awful customer service! read more

Shangri-La Treasures indeed. This place is alive, and breathes with the handmade goods from the artisans of Nepal. The merchandise here is museum-caliber, and the owners curate the store beautifully. Today, Tashi, the owner, told me excitedly that she and her daughter made a day-long journey by bus and by foot in India just to visit the museum where the clothes in her store are made. She cares deeply about the process that goes into the merchandise found in her store. She described the intricate, labor-intensive procedure of block printing with multiple colors on the beautiful fabrics you'll find here. Right now they have stunning sashes made from stinging nettle. First, the nettles must be dried, then soaked, then thrashed with limestone, before they are spun into thin thread. Then artists weave them into beautifully-patterned scarves and wraps. The tapestries are unbelievable. They are all handmade. Try to grok this when you look at them. Even their bags and receipts are handmade from sustainable materials. This is all testament to the quality and integrity of the family who owns the store. They simply shine. I always feel very proud of them as human beings when I leave. I cannot give a more glowing recommendation of this place and these people, who always receive my family with warmth and hospitality. Truly, they have become my friends. As soon as I walked in, I was rudely interrupted by the man working there. He asked if there was a parent with me- there was not, since I am an adult-he then thought I was not being truthful and asked to see my ID. I will never waste my time here again. I walked out, he lost a customer. I'm still curious to why I was so unwelcome in this shop. I also saw no signs that stated that this shop is 18+... strange. read more

This place carries really high-quality jewelry, not the cheap drek you find at some import stores. And the owner is so sweet and very helpful. They carry other Tibetan goods such as textiles and clothes but I'm alway sucked into the jewelry and its hard for me to get out without buying something. Much better than the place across the street, if you ask me. read more

They have the best clothing, jewelry, rugs and assorted icons I've yet found. Most of the clothes are for women, so if you want something stylish and unusual in women's clothes, you really have to check them out. The real pleasure in shopping here, though, is the owners, who are as helpful, knowledgeable, and patient as you'll ever find. That is such a rarity in today's world. My toddler and I stopped to admire the plastic necklaces on display outside the shop near the sidewalk. A very angry man came outside and chastised us for touching the necklaces. We were shocked and apologized yet he was still irate. I told him that if he does not want people touching the merchandise, he should not have them on public display outside the store for people to inspect. He became hysterical and wouldn't stop yelling at me and my shaken toddler as we walked away, causing a huge scene on College Avenue. We were already halfway down the street and he was still screaming at the top of his lungs, repeatedly shouting that I should teach my kid some manners. He yelled more obscenities at us that I couldn't quite decipher because we were already halfway up the block as he continued to scream at me and my now frightened toddler. It seems like a tall order to expect this man to learn the basics of customer service and human decency, so I just hope he gets his meds right because it is not normal for a grown man to have a public meltdown over a two year old touching a plastic necklace that's on public display. I should have called the cops on him and will do just that if he attempts to harass me and my family again. We support small and local businesses but this place is horrible and has no business staying open. read more

This is the best of all the Tibetan/ Himalayan Art stores in Berkeley. I called to order a particular stone for a necklace. They were helpful and went all the way to find just what I wanted. No extra charge even though they had to order the stone from Nepal. I am so pleased with them. read more

"Fair Trade" PLUS - the owners of this shop have long-standing personal relationships with the artisans and craftspeople who make all the beautifully crafted clothing, jewelry, and household items. In addition to the amazing textiles, clothing and jewelry, currently they have: wild nettle textiles including exfoliate washcloths, well worth the $15 (mass-made ones don't hold a candle to these), beautifully woven table runners, and intricately knitted scarves; hand-sculpted ceramic animal "pumice" stones that work like a dream; and an adorable assortment of cuddly cats and dogs made from hand-woven cotton, and filled with just the right amount of flax seed to make them easily graspable and huggable by little ones - my granddaughter LOVES hers - well worth the $35 (again, mass-produced "lovies" don't hold a candle to these). We have shopped here for years, a perfect place to find a special gift or to treat yourself to something that you know is expertly crafted and will last well beyond the throw-away fast-fashion that may seem a bargain, but never stands the test of time. We have come to know Tashi and Lobsang and consider them "treasures" not just because of the beautiful store they have created, but because of their loving intentions toward the artisans they support and their genuine attention to carrying only items that are produced in a genuinely sustainable way. read more
