I can't say enough good things about Shannon O'Sullivan and the Shangri-La Tattoo experience. I like that Shannon draws her own art. I sent her a couple of pictures I liked but talked about what I wanted to change and she took it from there. Shannon is a bad ass, magical queen and it is a privilege to sit in her chair honestly. She is very thoughtful when placing and sizing the tattoo, so once she goes to ink you have a really good idea of the outcome. Just top notch all around. read more

Not only is Shannon one of the sweetest and most down to earth people I've ever met, she's also got a crazy knack for bringing to life the ideas in my mind! The tattoos she's done for me so far are so beautiful and she's always excited when I bring her a new idea. 100000% recommend! read more

Reviewing a tattoo artist is a challenge. There are simply too many elements to actually cover. But here we go... Shannon and Rose at Shangri-la are simply in a class by themselves. I will be talking about Shannon as she has done literally all of my work but I can tell you that Rose is an absolute phenom. Working with Shannon is working with someone who gets it. She knows how important this work is to the people who are getting it. It can be emotional, artistic, technical, cathartic, and a little painful all at the same time. She is a master of all that. Shannon's ability to nail the spirit of the tattoo and give you what you really want, while still delivering what you asked for is spot on. I have spent a fair amount of time in her studio and every single session has been great. Every. Single. One. Highly recommended. For the small or the epic. read more

If you are reading this you are about to met your new tattoo Goddess. Shannon is everything you want in an artist. Super creative, highly skilled along with light handed and fast. Totally cool chick and engaging! I came to her after looking for an artist for 11 yrs. to fix a mistake. My first piece was 12 hrs. and I thought the artist had gotten my vision. They didn't. It was a botanical piece and it was flat. Not what I had drawn. Unfortunately, it was on my back so I couldn't see it. Shannon totally fixed this piece. Recolored it. Shaded it and made it come alive. And it only took her 2.5hrs! She is that experienced. That skilled. We've spent close to 35hrs together now. I now have a stunning girdle, gorgeous Arabic line work weaving, a delicate back piece, side scroll saying in Sanskrit cursive and random exquisite butterflies all over my torso. Each step was well planned and a collaboration. Her background in serious Art Design schools shows. Go see her book! It is just mind boggling how many styles she has produced...Greyscale, abstract, gothic, photorealism, whimsical, tribal, ethnic, white, modern so many more that I don't know how to describe. You dream it, she'll create it! read more

Shannon is not only an exceptional artist but also a wonderful person. She makes you feel comfortable and relaxed during the whole tattoo process. Shannon and her daughter Rose tattooed me and everyone in my family. We all trust them to draw out our ideas and tattoo them beautifully. Shannon tattooed my arm about 15 years ago and I still get compliments on it almost daily. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment as soon as possible. read more

I have been going to Shannon for as long as I remember - she did my second tattoo decades ago - and has done many, many, many more. Her work is amazing. I'll bring her an idea and I can't tell you how many times her suggestions have made it even better. I'm so grateful to her and her skill as an artist. Add to that how wonderful she is as a person. It's always a great experience to go to Shangri-La and I think sometimes I want to schedule a tattoo just so I can hang out with a terrific person in one of the loveliest spaces around. I haven't had a tattoo from Rose yet, but I know it's only a matter of time because her work is also exquisite. Don't think twice about going here for some ink - you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been seeing Shannon for many years and am always thrilled with each tattoo (not only upon its completion but everyday after). She has this amazing gift in being able to take my (sometimes many) ideas and channel it into the most perfect piece of art for my skin. She is always checking in during the actual tattoo process to make sure I'm still feeling a ok and makes the overall experience incredibly calming and joyful. i cannot recommend Shannon enough as an amazing artist but also a wonderful human being. read more

To be honest, I live next door to this charming tattoo studio and have watched Shannon and her customers come and go for a year now knowing at some point I would love a tattoo and how convenient to walk next door. So I did and we had texted a few times and exchanged some ideas of my love for the sea and flowers that represent so much more and she did her art on my arm and I absolutely love it! Her space is comfy and colorful with walls covered with beautiful art. She was quick and our conversation lovely. Shes badass and I need to let my friends and you all know she's extremely talented and I think renowned. She knew the artist Freddy that did my ankle tattoo on State street in Santa Barbara from1992 .. again, this woman is awesome and extremely talented and so down to earth.. I want to get another one .... read more

I left a review a few years ago but had to post an update to show off the beautiful pieces I've received since posting my last review. Shannon is a MAGICIAN!!! She has done some of the most incredible cover ups on me. I still don't understand how she does it, but she's amazing. She has always been so kind and open to collaboration on ideas and knocks it out of the park every time. The studio is stunning and I feel so safe and comfortable every time I visit. I have recommended Shannon to everyone I know and will continue to see her for many more years to come (I still have some tattoos I need covered). Whether you're looking for a new piece, or looking to cover up a prior mistake, Shannon is your artist!! Thank you so so much Shannon for all of your beautiful work, I appreciate you! read more

I can't begin to share how much I love this business and tattoo artist. My tattoo is quite literally one of my favorite things. It has been growing over the past year in its three sessions and there is no place I travel or person I meet who is not amazed by its artistry, beauty, color, and originality. It is simply magical, as is this incredible business. I couldn't even imagine trusting my skin or my soul to anyone else.... read more

I have a body if work from Shannon. Wouldn't trust anyone else. If you want to be a work of art, come here.

I have at times looked at my tattoos that I have gotten by Shannon and said to myself there is not a better tattoo in all of LA!! I probably have 15 tattoos from Shannon. I have gotten a few from other artists and kinda regret it because they never compare to Shannon's tattoos. If you want a tattoo call Shannon!! I have complete faith in her as a tattoo artist. I never worry and I am always so happy with the results. I think I will call her today for another tattoo! read more

Shannon and Rose have both tattooed me and my wife numerous times, and both are supremely talented as well as very kind. They have designed amazing tattoos for me and also recreated intricate designs *on* me such as album art and the Maryland flag (look it up, its all precise linework). It's a female owned and operated intergenerational business, which appeals to us. I frequently bring or send friends to Shangri-la, and every one has been happy (some go back for more tattoos). We were both heavily tattooed when we found them, and still have other tattoo artist friends, but Shangri-la is our go-to place. I can't recommend them enough. read more

What a beautiful experience! Upon entering I was asked to be seated after being warmly greeted by Shannon, with a welcoming hug! I was then "smudged" to remove any and all of the day's negative vibes. We discussed the artwork, and she handed me a jar of candles! "Pick however many you need," she said, "write your intentions on the bottom and the anoint them with the essential oil of your choice." I LOVE THIS, plus some yummy tea is provided for this part of the experience. Shortly after, Shannon took us back, and had us light the candles we'd anointed, so they burned during each personal tattoo process! Needless to say, I'm in love with my piece, this is a definitely an experience I'm not soon to forget! Thank you, Shannon! read more

I got some work done with Shannon in August 2023, and it was such an amazing experience that it motivated me to leave my first ever Yelp review. I decided in May that I wanted another tattoo (I got my first tattoo 15 years prior while I was living back east) and was looking for shops close to where I lived. I found the page for Shangri-La Tattoo and was impressed by both the glowing reviews and the stunning examples of previous work done at the shop, so I reached out to Shannon. We met at the shop a couple weeks later to discuss my ideas, and because I wasn't in a particular rush, scheduled the work for 2 months later. Over those 2 months, Shannon was really great (and patient!) as I sent her ideas and posed questions for what could be feasible to do for the design. On the day of my appointment, Shannon spent a lot of time talking through my ideas and showing her final design before we got to work; the end result was everything I could have hoped for and more. What really stuck with me (and what will keep me coming back to Shannon for future work) is that she really dialed in to who I was and the meaning behind my tattoo idea, and she created a welcoming, cozy environment for the work. She was a pleasure to chat with, and I loved looking at other examples of her stunning art while she worked on me. I really can't say enough good things about her! read more
