My sister and I went in to get matching memorial tattoos for our late father. It was my first and my sister's second. Interestingly enough, my sister had gotten her first tattoo from the same tattoo studio in 1998 when they were in old town. Simply, we had the best experience. I actually decided to get a nose ring while there. Lucy, our artist, was extremely talented, and I already have my next tattoo in mind (with her, of course). I currently forget the gentleman's name who pierced my nose (Michael perhaps?) but he was very pleasant and sits next to Lucy. I went in for a double earlobe piercing and it was very simple/straightforward and the people there were really nice! I got my ears pierced by Anya (@anyaarts on instagram) and she was really patient with me the whole time like I wanted the earlobes to be even to my preference and she didn't mind marking the area over and over again until I was satisfied! (was very sanitary the whole time and made sure everything was sterile) Overall, a good experience for me, 5/5! I did NOT get a tattoo though so don't come for me about that... In terms of earlobe piercings, definitely would go again! First tattoo ever! I was introduced to Buddy through his family member. I am NOT a person you'd expect to walk into a tattoo shop. I wanted a fine line set of bracelets to give me a permanent set of jewelry I can't lose or have taken away from me. I'm able to include a myriad of sentimental items as I continue through my life. He Is Greater Than I is the connection for all of my work and placing it on my underside of my arm allows me to feel His work through me. The green beads are representations of the four members of my family. My husband and I are May and my kids are August (all greens!). The cross draping on my hand is my most sentimental piece of this tattoo. It is a replica of a pendant that my husband purchased as my first piece of jewelry. Buddy added color to the heart and I'm so proud to have it with me forever now. I asked Buddy to include the I Love You sign since I've worked the past 30 yrs in ASL. I never want to lose my connection to the Deaf World and he fit it beautifully in. The leaves line break up any chain or straight line bracelet. No color was added, but most likely when I return for more additions, I will have them colored and add flower buds. Buddy is kind, gentle and supportive. I had an appointment on a Sunday afternoon, and last minute I had to push it back 15 min-- Andrew was easy going and flexible. He told me I could even come later if I wanted, with no worries. After we got there at our new appointment time, he asked if he could do a walk in-piercing before my appt, and because we weren't in a time crunch, I said it was fine. After that, he was ready with my tattoo art that I'd brought to the first meeting, and the whole process was really quick for my one word tattoo(about 1/2 hour total). In The Skin Tattoo is a down to earth establishment and so are the people who work there. Andrew did a great job on my first ever tattoo. He told me what he was going to do before he did it, and I felt comfortable and at ease. It was a fun experience, (minus the tattoo shading pain, :). I'm coming back to this review because I seriously cannot write enough good things. Maya just did another incredible tattoo for me last night and it is absolutely exquisite. I couldn't be happier with this art and more impressed by how incredibly talented she is. The thing is, she is also just a magnificent person in general! She's hilarious and so interesting to talk to, and made me feel so comfortable (I hadn't eaten much so I was getting restless towards the end, and Maya gave me breaks and engaged me in some of the best conversation). She is so thoughtful and caring. I will never get a tattoo by anybody else! I absolutely adore Maya as an artist and person, and it's worth it to get a tattoo just to be able to meet her. My Artist was Buddy. Easy to make an appointment on a Sunday. We texted back and forth to save time on the day of the appointment. He made me feel comfortable and we is really easy going. His working area is clean and takes needles out of packages. His hand isn't really heavy. I had some scars covered and covered an old tattoo on my left lower back. His price is a bit expensive but he does a great job. Can't go cheap on something permanent. They accept cash and plastic for payment. There's parking in the rear of the building. 1 hour parking in the street. Will be returning for sure. read more

Andrew was my piercer here and I'm really happy with how everything turned out. I got my lobe pierced and he was super accommodating and made it a priority that I was comfortable! Four years ago Buddy did an amazing job with two cover ups and since has done some touch ups to my other work. I was so impressed with his work that I asked him to add to my cover up on my back and he has been amazing. Buddy is almost compled the work on my back. This journey with Buddy has been cool and once it's done. I will ask him to help pick out the art work to use for the next project. I also want to add that Buddy is also working on my son since he turned 18. My son has some really great work done by Buddy and every time my son comes home on leave from the Navy Buddy makes time to work on him by working him in to his schedule to synchronize with his leave. This is the 2nd place I saw to write a review about In The Skin, so sorry for the re-post... This place is pretty cool. Went there for my treble clef note tat, located behind my right ear, about 6 years ago. I give them 4 stars because, for one, Yelp doesn't have a 3.5 star and two the guy didn't have the ability to (or didn't want to) put much detail in the rose, so I had to compromise and just have a basic red flower. It kind of took away the meaning behind the reason for getting a rose though... I'm from Pasadena, City of Roses, and my music label is called Roze Bowl Records, hence the treble clef note..... aaaand I had to wait for about 45 min's to an hour. But whatever. I get many compliments still soooo, 4 stars it is..... Plus the dude was laid back and was pretty fast at inkin' me up... took about 10 min's. The price was a little steep for my taste, fo' sho'.... My tat isn't bigger than a quarter and it ran me $75 bucks! In the wise words of Chris Tucker & Ice Cube in Friday, "....DAAAAMMNNN!!!!" I just told myself it included his tip, to help ease the pain of the price & my sore ear. They do piercings too and have other artists there who are just as talented, if not more, depending on what you request. Even though I wasn't 100% pleased with my tat, I saw some really nice work being done around me....which makes me think my artist just had an off day or some 'iiish like that because...... ...I looked on their site to see which guy had the privilege of marking my body up... and his name's Max, whom I suppose, is famous for marking Britney Spears' body up as well....is that a good or bad thing?!...lol Anyways, this place is worth a go, even with it being a bit pricey and ole dude's off day. I always see this shop on my way home from dropping my daughter off. One evening, I decided to check it out to kill some time and avoid rush hour traffic. Walked in, spoke to Andy. Started throwing some ideas around, and left placing a payment for a drawing. Andy's professional and artistic mannerism speaks for itself. Once Andy had a drawing done, I wasn't to sure on some of the elements, but he asked pertinent questions and ultimately I let him, the artist, go to work. The final product shared on the site of a no border cross with images inside came out better than what I had expected. Andy has a keen eye for grays that is up there. Not only does Andy do good work, but his professionalism and artistry is such, that he takes personal pride and ownership for what he places on your skin. I came back to get some shading and color done, and he even touched up my ribs piece free of charge. Once I healed, I noticed that the cross was uneven. Andy had me come in and explained, and proved to me that the measurements were accurate, pointing out that my shoulder blade creates a curvature, making the cross seem off. He gave me the option of adding a border, which would eliminate the illusion, but would take away from the uniqueness of the piece. He showed me what it would look like with a border and ultimately I decided to keep my tattoo as I had originally envisioned it. All of this was done free of charge and essentially on Andy's own dime. That seems to be the nature of Andy's professionalism. I would and have happily recommended Andy to my family and friends for their pieces. Happy tattooing! read more
