I've always wanted a tattoo but didn't find anyone in the bay area with a style that I liked. Social media is creepy and knew GH was my girl. Emailing was super easy with her assistant Max. I asked so many questions through email and Max was very responsive. I booked my December appointment WAY in advance in August. I absolutely love her smokey style and wanted a chrysanthemum. We agreed on a price and I paid a deposit through venmo. I did not get a preview of the design until my appointment. Come appointment day immediately loved the preview that she showed me on her iPad. I just had 1 minor adjustment along with making it bigger. We agreed on the price and she got things set up. The tattoo is 7.5 inches and took about 3 hours. She took at least 2 breaks that were honestly very welcomed. I have given birth to two kids and this tattoo is right up there on the pain scale. After the tattoo was done she sanitized it and then took pictures. Then, she put second skin over it and gave me aftercare instructions and balm. Was looking for a place to get a tattoo with friend last minute. They were recommended by another friend and when we called, we were so glad to hear they accept walk in appointments. We ask for a quote on the tattoo we want and price was reasonably priced. There is a parking lot in the back, but you have to walk in from the front. When we walked in, the place looks super clean and employees were friendly. We were introduce to Jade, our artist who was going to work on our tattoo. We showed her inspirations of what we want. She was able to draw out what we wanted and made sure to fix the artwork accordingly. Super easy to work with and really patient with you. It was always nice to get a 2nd opinion on placement of the tattoo and she was really helpful. I had to change my placement few times and she was patient with me. I initially found his work on the Gee Ink website when I was searching all around the web in Southern California for an artist who could deliver the high end level of quality I was looking for. If you really value clean, precise, quality work, and your personal image, the appearance of a prominent tattoo is something which can have a significant impact on your style for the rest of your life, so it is very important to find somebody you can trust with the skill to deliver it just right. After seeing Tian's work, I drove all the way from Riverside county to get my work done with him. I had a difficult piece which incorporated geometric elements, clean lines, and symmetrical balance which I was very concerned about having done just right. Tian really delivered superbly on my expectations. He told me in conversation he had some background in drafting and architectural work, and it really shows. His precision and level of detail, and effort he puts into getting things just right is really far and beyond that of most other artists I have seen anywhere around this area. Got my first tattoo here this past weekend! I was with my bestie who has had many, and we both felt comfortable here, super clean, and the tattoo artists really made it easy to capture what we wanted, print out the design in multiple sizes to try on, even multiple of the same size to find the right spot. I'm not sure if that is standard in most shops, but it really gave me a lot of comfort with it being my first one! I was looking for a local studio and stumbled on Modo Ink on Yelp. Went to their site and browsed through various artists and their work, and Vicki's work really stuck out to me! So I reached out to her for an appointment and was scheduled within a couple of weeks. I emailed her some pictures of what I wanted. My friends and I all came in as walk-ins. They were all so accommodating, timely, and kind! I was not afraid of asking them for new sizing or placements because they made me feel so comfortable. I had a really stressful experience due to weird communication and unfortunate events. I contacted Grant late July with a photo of a tattoo he did that I loved. I told him I wanted something very similar to that. With his guidance, I communicated my ideas and his responses were positive. Mid-September, I sent my deposit for an early October appointment. I told him I'd be flying down from San Francisco just for the tattoo, and that I was excited because I loved his other design so much. Up to 5 days before the appointment, I hadn't heard from Grant, so I went ahead and drew on my arm essentially what I wanted in terms of placement and "brushstroke" size and flow, and sent it to him. He said that it was very useful, and that he would get started on the design in the next couple days. 2 days before my appt, I check in. He says he'll get started on the design that night. I purchase my flight and rental car. The day of, I hadn't heard from him. I flew down, rented a car, and with two hours to spare, emailed him to offer to bring him boba. He responds that he hasn't designed the tattoo, and asks to cancel and reschedule. I call the studio and ask if I can get a refund on my deposit. They tell me to hold, and come back to tell me that he didn't mean to cancel, he just wanted to push back the start time an hour I arrive at the new start time. Wait around for half an hour. Grant arrives extremely apologetic, and kindly asks me to look at the ideas he has for my tattoo. They're all bits and pieces that are pretty but that I'm not crazy about, and I do my best to collage something I like together while switching from English to my average Chinese when he doesn't seem to understand what I'm saying. I tell him that I wouldn't mind using similar themes and designs as the inspiration tattoo; he says that tattoo artists don't like doing this, so I drop it. The designing takes a few hours, and the ink work is started but left unfinished so I can catch my return flight. I really wish I hadn't been put in a position where the design and ink work had to be rushed with last minute and shaky communication. I'd invested so much time and money in this experience and tried to stay positive, but came out of it feeling pressured and let down. I don't know how to explain how difficult and stressful I felt the communication was, and I don't have the financial or schedule flexibility to go back anytime soon. Grant graciously offered free touch-ups without a time limit, and maybe even gave me a discount given my experience, but I won't be going back. I am again expressing that my tattoo is pretty to reiterate that Grant is talented, but the tattoo is now a constant reminder of a really stressful and disappointing experience. read more

Such a great experience! I booked an appointment with GH about 2 weeks in advance. Her assistant Max responded very promptly and also asked about the details I wanted. There was a $50 deposit prior to my appointment which will be contributed to the total that you pay. GH was super friendly and down to earth. She was very understanding and made sure I loved the design on the day of. She allows up to 3 minor changes during the appointment itself which is nice. Jade was great! She was so sweet and kind. Booking with her directly on Instagram was a breeze. I decided to do her flash cat tattoo set with a resemblance of my own cat. On the day of the session, she showed me the final product and it was exactly how I imagined. She even did a touch-up on some parts of the image to improve it. Then she provided size options for me to choose from. Before we started the black ink, she did a pain tolerance tester on the area where I wanted to get my tattoo. During the session, she always checked up on me (especially for the coloring parts). After the session, she was kind enough to do a consultation for another tattoo I wanted to do. This review is long overdue. I echo with similar reasons the other Yelpers that weren't satisfied either. This place makes you feel very unwelcome. If you don't speak their language, be prepared to be feel super awkward and gawked at. I'm Asian and I even felt it. I chose to do my tattoo with GH based on her IG page, it took about 1.5 months to book with her & the entire time you are communicating with her assistant via email and they don't respond timely. When I finally came in for my appointment, I was not greeted or even a Hi from GH. She went straight into showing me reference photos I sent her & said, you want this tattoo, but it's someone else's name...I looked confused & said I want my daughter's name in that font. I explained everything in my email. She then gave me her iPad and said go ahead & pick a font, it was dafont.com I said oh, you don't draw up something similar to the photos I sent and we go from there? She looked at me & said you want me to draw/make a font? I said yeah, isn't that what tattoo artist do. She said no, you'll have to pick a font on the website and I can make minor adjustments. While working with her on a font, every time I asked for an adjustment, she looked annoyed, walked back to her desk and said something in her language multiple times. I could see the other guys looking at her, then to me. (Mind you, it was only about 2 adjustments). I ended up telling her I don't feel comfortable with getting my daughter's tattoo and asked if she can do another tattoo I've been wanting. She said, if you want you can come back when you decide on a font. I folder her I'm not coming back because it took 1.5 months to get an appointment and I don't want my $100 deposit to just be lingering. The tattoo I ended up getting was a skeleton by Van Gogh. During the tattoo, forget trying to small talk with her, she just wants to get it done and you out of her chair. After it was done, I was pretty happy with the tattoo, but there are details that I wasn't too fond of, overall it turned out good. This was a $340 tattoo, which is expensive IMO, plus the experience was not pleasant. I had to come back for a touch up and I definitely was not looking forward to it. I am just glad I'm done with her, I would never go back or ever recommend GH. I got my daughter's name and another tattoo recently by a tattoo artist who was a judge on Miami Ink, he had 25+ years experience, super friendly, & price was great. This ARTIST drew and customized the lettering until I was completely satisfied, so now I have a unique font that you can't find on some website. read more
