UPDATE! : The owner Eva is incredibly kind and immediately sent me a refund for the piercings…read more While I didn't expect that at all, I appreciate it immensely. Their tattoos look amazing, and based on other reviews I might come in in the future for one! I appreciate the resolution a lot, and with the promise to correct future protocols, I have faith this won't happen again, so I'm glad I said something! It is a beautiful studio with a super calm and positive vibe, and I have regained a lot of respect for the business and how they go about resolving and preventing issues.
I got a piercing at Urban Ink with a friend about a month ago, and I wanted to let you guys know what my experience has been like since getting it.
Firstly, I want to say, Michael has a great bedside manner and a great personality. Super fun to talk to, sweet guy. However, the experience since then has been pretty poor. Firstly, when we got the piercing, he had us select the jewelry we wanted. I picked simple ball backing jewelry, and my friend chose jewelry that was more complex. When he pierced us, he was very fast, and that would've been good, if he hadn't put the wrong jewelry in my friends ear. We came back a bit later and had him change it, which wasn't a big deal but it was inconvenient. For me, I had used his pen to show exactly where I wanted the piercing, and for some reason he erased it and repositioned it, and then pierced me. At the time in the excitement of it all, I thought it looked great and I trusted his judgment and placement. But, in the days after, I realized the placement wasn't where I had put it at all. I knew this because, I have a map for piercings on that ear I plan to get, and the placement would have interfered with the placement of future piercings I planned on getting. I ended up getting the piercing removed somewhere else.
Now, today, my friend went to a piercing place on the east coast because one of the pieces of jewelry fell out for his double helix. Not only did they tell him that the placement of the piercing was so deep in the ear, that any hoop would've had to be massive in diameter, but also that the piercing angle was so skewed that many jewelry pieces meant for a double helix simply wouldn't work, and would never fully heal in the scarring process.
I understand everyone starts somewhere, but what I thought was expert speed at the time was actually rushed, imprecise, and even more money than I had paid originally just to get them taken out. This has been immensely disappointing, and I hate to leave this review because at the time, I felt it was a great experience. Trusting somebody with any body modification is a big deal, and for them to not give you what you asked for is a huge breach of that trust. When it comes to piercings, I won't be coming back. In terms of practice and of actual execution, I am highly skeptical of how experienced and seasoned this piercer is.
