The Bento boxes start from $7.95 which is a bit of a bargain for the Chicken Karaage one, comes with chicken, rice and a nice fresh shredded cabbage like salad. I didn't expect the world, but when it came out in a little under 5 minutes, it was fresh, it was hot and the salad had a dressing on it which made it taste out of this world. I stuffed all of it in my mouth in 2 mouthfuls and boy was it a great appetizer. There is a weird little appeal about this place as it has a little inside part where you can 'eat in' and it is little, like a sushi train, but you're all facing the wall. Cute though... not much space, and the air-con was a little cold for me so I sat outside in the 'take away' section. They still brought my food out to me which was lovely. What a satisfying meal in the big city under the magical $10 mark, will definitely be back for more.

Happy Noodles doe not look that impressive upon first view; their logo and display photos look like they have not been replaced since they first opened, but like all good Chinese restaurants, what really hits you is the smell. You know, that Chinese food smell that sends your cravings through the roof. I have had a few dishes from here and they do not disappoint. A lot of people seem to order the noodle stir-fry dishes which are indeed very appetising but I particularly like the noodle soup with braised beef dish, mainly because the beef is sooooo tender and packed with flavour. The service here is always very friendly and you will never have to wait long for your meal to be cooked, even during their busier lunch period. Recently a friend suggested I try Oshin Japanese Restaurant for a good sit-down lunch (or dinner) and now, I would go no place else in the city. Hidden from the main thoroughfare, upstairs in Koala House on Adelaide Street, Oshin seems to have been "found out" by suits doing their business lunches, an indication of quick service and reliably good fare. Oshin is also an authentic-feeling place, with good ambiance (their Japanese waitresses are friendly and wear kimonos) and great value for money. There are so many delicious-looking things on the menu that it's hard to choose. I managed to settle on the Yakizakana (grilled mackerel steaks with rice and soy) and my friend had the Tensashi Lunch Box, which comes with an assortment of tempura, sashimi and salad. Both were filling, especially as all dishes come with a complimentary starter of good miso soup and an "amuse-bouche", a taste of something fresh and quirky.
