The biggest compliment I can give to this place is that my in-laws mentioned (offhandedly) that I had a good-looking haircut. I was excited to check this place out after reading all the excellent Yelp reviews, but my haircut from here was HORRIBLE and I wish I would have not gone here. The person who cut my hair was extremely nice and pleasant, however, I doubt his ability to cut long hair. I have been growing out my hair for a long time now to the point where it was several inches past my shoulders. It had been about 10 weeks since my last hair cut and I only needed an inch removed to continue growing it long and healthy. To my horror, SEVERAL inches were cut off and not to mention the line is totally jagged with some pieces still much longer than others. I think he kept cutting it shorter to correct his jagged line. It looks awful. When I called to ask for my money back, I was asked to come in so he could fix it. There is positively no way I would ever allow this person or anyone there near my hair again. I was told to come in so he could see it, but if I won't be getting my money back, I won't be wasting my time to show him what a poor job he did. I hate to write such an awful review because they were very nice, friendly people and the space was clean, but the poor quality of the haircut made me want to warn other people out there about what they might be getting themselves into. I am really sad and miss my long hair and wish I would have decided to go to another salon. Hope this helps someone else to avoid the situation I have been through. One other thing, there was no receptionist to answer the phone and the person cutting my hair had to stop at least 5 times during the appointment to answer phone calls. I was in and out in under 40 minutes with my long hair needing a lot of TLC. I didn't even have to tell her where I part my hair, she noticed and cut and styled my hair exactly like I wanted it. I have been getting my haircut by Allen at Shanghai Hair Studio for about 3 years and I love Allen and my haircuts. Allen is like an artist when he cuts your hair. He is very detailed (he even trims your eyebrows if there is a runaway brow), spinning around on his stool and then looking at your hair from every angle to make sure it's perfect. I have gone to other salons in the past and they tend to get you in and out as quickly as possible, but Allen takes him time, rinses your hair (I often have to get my haircut during lunch hour) so you can walk out and not have to worry about hair being all over you. I have worn my hair in the same style forever and decided to grow it a little longer and try a new style. I told Allen this and he is onboard, offering suggestions to get my hair to the next style. He always remembers what I like and don't like. Allen and his wife Julie are the sweetest people, always greeting you with a smile and making you feel at home and that you important to them. I would highly suggest going to either Allen of Julie. I also wanted to make a comment about another person who reviewed them and said "they answered the phones about 5 times". You have to realize that this salon is a two person salon. They do not need a receptionist and they are perfectly capable of answering the phone when needed. If you are a Diva, maybe this is not the place for you. Now, I get my hair cut every 3 weeks, I never have to FIX anything, and I look forward to my next chance to visit. I came from San Francisco and I used to go to the same person for 10 years. Moving here, I tried many barbershops, but nothing came close. Finally stopped by for a walk in on a Wednesday around 1pm and Alan was free, luckily. He is the most comparable to my previous barber and super friendly as well.
