Food: 4/5 Service; (bar 3/5) (waiter5/5) Ambiance 5/5 Will be back when it's not an arts walk on magazine! Being a bartender in New Orleans the fact that I put ourselves on the waitlist and then went to the bar and the bartender never acknowledged me for over 12 minutes and he only had four people at the bar plus tickets BUT just a simple eye contact and head gesture will do wonders... once we were seated everything was great started !

My friends and I stopped in for an early dinner, and Sage was our waiter. I've really been on a dim sum kick lately, so I was excited to find out that New Orleans has a new dim sum restaurant! We ordered a variety of dishes because we wanted to try as many different things as possible. To start, we had the crabmeat soup dumplings, steamed chicken dumplings, spring rolls, and cucumber salad. For our entrees, we tried the boiled beef in hot chili oil, sweet and sour chicken with pineapple, mapo tofu, General Tso's chicken, white rice, and fried rice. Overall, the food was great and we enjoyed being able to sample such a wide variety. The only dish I probably wouldn't order again was the boiled beef in hot chili oil it just didn't have anything particularly memorable or exciting about it. Everything else was enjoyable, and I especially liked being able to try so many different dishes in one visit. They don't have their liquor license yet, but they currently allow you to bring your own wine at no additional fee, which is a nice touch while they get the bar up and running. Sage was attentive and made our early dinner a great experience. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu!

Had dinner here and the service and food were great. We started with the fried spring rolls and they were disappointing with veggies inside very mushy and lacking flavor. This was the only disappointment of the night. We had trouble deciding on entrees because everything on the menu was enticing but we settled on the clay pot braised chicken, salt and pepper shrimp, cabbage in dry pot and shrimp fried rice and everything well seasoned. I kept going back for seconds and thirds because the flavors were just so good and went well together. If you like Chinese food this is one spot id recommend as its fresh and flavorful, different from the typical Chinese food you find around the city.

The service was excellent. The servers were cheerful and helpful and efficient. The food came out quickly and it was very tasty. Portions were huge and the place is absolutely gorgeous. There's plenty of seating although it did get busy on a weeknight and fill up quickly after 6:30 PM. I think this is a great addition to Magazine street which has the sushi place next door to this and another Chinese restaurant down the street. And this one gives you some great variety. The only reason I'm giving it four stars and not five is because there were very few vegetarian options and I would have loved more vegetables on the menu in general. Their soup dumpling sampler, mapo tofu and the bok choy were all fabulous!

So this was my first visit to this Chinese food spot. I have visited this location many times in the past when it was different restaurants but it has literally been decades since I was last in this space. The ambiance has certainly changed drastically since my last visit here. They have a really long menu with LOTS of pictures and the food looks really great in the pictures! So I decided to go with the spicy chicken with prawn balls but they were out of prawn balls so I got regular shrimp. My server suggested I also get fried rice so I did that. I found the spicy chicken and shrimp to be OK while the fried rice just wasn't pleasing to me. I also found this to be a much more expensive Chinese food experience than many other Chinese places in the area and the food I had was not as pleasing as other Chinese places. They do have a big menu that had other items I'm interested in so maybe some of the other dishes will impress me. Overall I still think Dian Xin and Miss Shirley's are the overall top picks in NOLA for Chinese food.

Excellent food. This restaurant is celebrating its soft opening as of 7/30 and seems to already be a hit, as they were filled to capacity on Thursday. I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5 as there were some mixups from the kitchen, this was noted by other tables as well. If you have particular allergies I would wait until this restaurant establishes consistency. Wait times for items were long, but the staff was great and apologetic and we felt well taken care of by everyone we interacted with. The soup dumplings were some of the best I've had. We ordered the crabmeat dumplings but were served pork dumplings instead. We still gladly accepted them, but would not have known the mixup before biting into them. They were served with a dipping sauce and it was perfect. The Wonton soup was a bit salty but had perfect little handmade wontons in the soup (approximately 5 wontons). I loved this so much more than the standard wonton soup served at other restaurants. Our entrees were the Sizzling Beef Udon and the Crispy Pork Chop with rice. The beef udon has a strong peppery taste to it, very savory and just about enough for one person, but I think the portion could have a little more beef to become a full entree. The Pork Chop was much larger and was cooked perfectly crisp. Since this was opening week, a dessert menu was not offered as of yet. Alcoholic beverages are also not yet offered from the bar. We are excited to give this place another try when the restaurant gets into a routine.

Was excited to try this new spot but was a bit disappointed. Food was pretty tasty overall, however portions are on the smaller side. Soup dumplings were excellent. Came on a weekend and it was quite busy, a small space with several tables. Food came out on the slower side and somehow felt like our dinner was rushed as they were quickly trying to clear our table and prepare the check despite us not being finished with your meal. Service left much to be desired. I think they're still ironing out some things having recently opened but waitress didn't seem to know the menu well. Ceiling AC was also dripping from the ceiling throughout our dinner, which apparently is a known issue to management, nonetheless they continued to seat customers at the tables with this issue. Would maybe consider giving this spot another chance down the line as there's potential.

    Take-out thermal bag

I had them on yesterday & they are currently the best Chinese food I've had in NOLA. I ordered 1 shrimp fried rice, 1 General Tso chicken, 2 orders of spring rolls for take out. My total was $50. I sat at the bar and waited. The decor is cute. The kitchen is exposed by a glass & I took comfort in watching the chefs cook. Everything is made to order fresh. I sat at the bar to wait for my food. There was staff there but no one asked me if I wanted anything to drink. The hostess who took my order brought out my food in the cutest bag. When I got home I realized the bag wasn't only cute it was thermal proof. The food was hot & it smelled good. I served myself & so did my brother. The fried rice had big pretty shrimp in it. I was already captivated by the look & smell. It was time to taste everything. I started with the rice, it was tasty with the right amount of salt & spice . Then I tried the General Tso chicken & I instantly loved it. It was spicy & sweet in the right way. The spring rolls were crunchy & fresh. I enjoyed eating each item as it activated my palate. My brother agreed that we would definitely order or dine in with them again. PS, the bag is reusable.

The wait was worth is because we had a great time at Miss Shirley's. Once we were seated we were brought dumplings, I couldn't have any because I'm vegetarian but I appreciated the quick and complimentary plate! I would say there was about as many vegetarian options as I thought there would be, which is a moderate amount. I didn't really like the vegetable dumplings (pictured with the skewers through them) mainly because I just didn't know how to eat them. I think if we had received chop sticks I would have enjoyed eating them more but having to use the fork was awkward. The sauteed tofu was the best thing I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant, I've been thinking about it frequently over the last 24 hours. Even if you aren't vegetarian and if you've never had tofu before but been curious - you have to start there. Or actually don't because no tofu will ever compare haha! From my non-vegetarian dining partners: the xiaolongbao that came on the mini swings was yummy, the crab meat shu mai could be skipped, the chicken was delicious, the fried shrimp balls are a must have, and the gyoza was good. We also were surprised with mini beignets at the end of the night! I thought that was super cool and they were delicious!

I came across Dian Xin and it felt like a tiny oasis from the heat, humidity and bustle of the French Quarter. I ordered a variety of dishes to try and everything was great. When the bill arrived, I noticed I had been charged extra for the broccoli and also charged for shrimp--even though shrimp was already the protein included in the menu item I ordered. I politely questioned the charge, and the explanation I received didn't seem to match what was stated on the menu. I then asked to speak with a manager so the issue could be addressed. After quite a bit of discussion in the kitchen, the server returned, but instead of a manager coming out, I was given essentially the same explanation we had already discussed. I calmly explained why the charges didn't make sense and expressed that I was unhappy with how the situation was being handled. Unfortunately, there seemed to be little interest in resolving the concern or retaining my business. The food is fine, but my advice is to carefully review your bill before paying. Based on my experience, management does not appear particularly concerned when customers raise billing issues.

We can attest that they sell the best shrimp-fried rice in the New Orleans area (with really big shrimp)! General Tso chicken is delicious too. We've ordered other items but these are our favorite. Last night we took the journey by foot through the french quarter to get here. It was a rough walk but that's not Zhang's fault. That's just New Orleans. So the only negative comment I can give them is location. Yal it's hard to get to. When we arrived, we were immediately directed to sit where we wanted. The restaurant smelled tasty! Our server came out quickly and brought us water. After placing our order, our food was brought out pretty fast and it was piping hot. Tonight we ordered our usual, General Tso's chicken and shrimp fried rice. We decided to share both entrées. The shrimp fried rice was delicious! We did not need to add one pinch of salt or dab of soy sauce. This meant a lot because we frequent Japanese and Chinese restaurants and it has been awhile since we had fried rice that was seasoned well. Also, the shrimp in the fried rice were large. If you have ever had Hibachi shrimp, that is the size of the shrimp in this dish! The General Tso's chicken was perfect. It was crunchy yet covered in the Tso's sauce which was sweet and savorly flavored. Even the white rice served with the chicken had a good flavor. The vegetables were also cooked perfectly and flavored well. Checking out was easy and there were no surprises on our bill. Zhang's does have more expensive prices for its fried rice dishes but you really do get what you pay for. Trust me, we have shopped around and I've only found one other place that has fried rice with a similar flavor and it's on the westbank. We haven't tried the full menu but we've been pleased with all of our basics that we normally order. Also, Zhang is an "Asian Bistro" so there are items on the menu that go beyond those of a traditional Chinese restaurant. If you are staying in the quarters, this is the place that you want to go to for some good Chinese food.

This week I wanted to visit spots successfully catering to locals and stumbled upon this tiny neighborhood hidden gem. Hidden because one would have easily missed it repeatedly when driving (or walking) past since the whole exterior was so unassuming at first glance. It only showed up on my radar when I meticulously searched for seafood spots on different platforms and randomly stumbled on their Facebook page. Best boiled crawfish and shrimp it said. Always fresh it exclaimed. Decently priced it stated. Well, this I had to go see it for myself and put to test. This was obviously a detour from my planned R&D in NOLA but was definitely a spot that must be designed for locals (and random tourists like me). This was confirmed immediately when I stepped in to see a long line of construction workers from the nearby site picking up lunch and some young kids digging into bags of shrimp and crawfish in utter delight. While looking at their sharpie streaked menu, I noticed quite a number of customers striking up conversations with the lady behind the plexiglass like long lost friends as they too picked up food to-go. Yeah, definitely a local friendly spot. Shrimp and crawfish by the pound was CHEAP in comparison to all the places in the area I've been. The best part? After getting back to the AirBnB, I realized just how good and fresh the seafood was! Succulent, very well seasoned, and not severely overcooked (like some spots around here prefer to serve it). I could taste the spices and aromatic vegetables used in the boil and found each bite absolutely tonguegasmic. Came for a pre-lunch snack and now back for a pre-dinner snack. Both the lady and gentleman had a smirk and muffled giggle as they saw me again. "You like it?" No, I love it. I'm here for a week and I'll be back every day you're open until I fly out of here. Take my money and give me thy awesome shrimp!

A quick Yelp…read moreand Google check showed great reviews, and even though the photos looked pretty simple, we decided to give it a try. Sometimes that's just how travel works and you cross paths with unexpected gems. The owner and his family couldn't have been nicer. This place has been around for over 30 years, a mix of convenience store and local eatery. The owner, an older Asian gentleman, warmly asked me and my husband where we were from as soon as he saw us. We think maybe because there aren't many Asian in the neighborhood and it instantly felt welcoming and we started to chitchat. His son was helping in the kitchen that day, and the guy taking our order (super friendly, too!) turned out to be his son-in-law, just stopping by on his day off. This place is small but we could tell most of the steady stream of takeout customers were regulars. We ordered about $50 worth of food: * C2 Fried Chicken (10 pcs) - $11.99 * P6 Shrimp Po'boy (12") - $5.99 * P8 Catfish Po'boy (12") - $7.99 * R5 Cajun Gumbo - $8.99 * Two cans of drinks It felt special that on our very first day in New Orleans, we got to try two of the city's most iconic dishes: Gumbo and Po'boys right here in this humble neighborhood spot. The fried chicken was super crispy, the Po'boys were packed with filling, and the gumbo was flavorful without being overly salty. We couldn't finish it all, so the leftovers became our breakfast the next morning. The shop itself is nothing fancy, just two folding tables and a few chairs but the food and the warmth of the people made it one of those memorable stops that really stick with us. We actually came back on our last day in New Orleans and wanted to try the Yak-Ka-Mein Soup which was recommended by the owner but it was closed on Memorial Day:( I guess we will save it for our next visit. If you ever find yourself in the area, I'd highly recommend trying their food. T&T Seafood & Po-Boys 548 Jackson Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130
