have heard of Shane many times through fellow watch lovers. It finally came time that I needed a service on a vintage Rolex that I had just purchased. Even the seller of the watch had told me to bring it to Shane if I need a service. yep he does it out of his apartment.. he is a casual guy who is easy to get along with. you can tell he has been doing this for many years the moment you see his work desk. value wise I think Shane is unbeatable. Are there better watchmakers out there? Probably. But are they as personable and reasonably priced as Shane? Doubt it. I got my watch back in a matter of days and it has been running great since. I would recommend Shane to anyone looking to avoid RSC and other overpriced options.

My diving watch needed servicing, as I was reminded when I missed an appointment. My old watch repair place in Hamilton downtown was long gone. I work in Toronto so I found Shane through a Google search. I was impressed by all of the positive Yelp reviews. I picked up my watch the next day and am happy. I will bring my future business to him.

Found Shane after seeing his positive reviews on Yelp, and decided to give him a call to fix my Omega seamaster GMT that had stopped ticking. Normally in the past, I've bought the watch to the omega authorized service depots, which costs north of $4-500 and take 3-4 weeks to be fixed. I was hoping for a more economical and speedier alternative in Toronto. Shane did not dissapoint, and as per fellow yelp reviewers have indicated, a very knowledgeable and honest profession in expensive watch servicing. The little workshop in his condo has numerous other watches waiting to be serviced, and he quickly disassembled my watch in 5 min in front of me, and after examining it for about another 10 min, found the issue with my watch, which was a broken bearings set. He told me that he needed to order the parts from Omega, but he will receive the parts within 1-2 days, and he will call me when the watch is ready, the cost is $150 all in. This was way below what I normally pay at the repair Depot, so I happily accepted, After 3 days, Shane called and said the watch is ready for pickup, I picked it up and it's working perfectly, now I'm much more at ease with wearing my Omega on a day to day basis, knowing that I can bring it to Shane if something goes wrong with it again. Thanks Shane! Recommended!!

I bought a Patek Philippe on Ebay, and since I don't live in Toronto, I had my friend drive it over. The watch is antique pocket watch from the 1930's, 46mm, mechanical winding in white gold case. The watch arrived not working. Before I complained to the seller, I thought I would give Shane a try. He got it working for $10! However, he went on a rant about how overpriced PP watches are and how can't understand why people pay so much money for them. There was a gold coin collector friend of his there at the same time and they both started to take jabs at how much better I would be off if I just bought a gold coin. I guess that is true, if I was buying the watch to invest in gold, but I am a watch collector and this was my first PP watch. I have looked and looked for one that I could buy inexpensively so that I too could say I owned a PP watch, and I finally found a nice one for what ended up being the cheapest price ebay had at the moment for a PP watch. I figured I did well, but Shane and his friend kept on going on about how there is absolutely nothing special about the watch and that at the very best its worth its gold content and not much more. To me its special because it was a PP I could finally afford. Sure its not a repeater but those go for crazy amounts of money, and I just want to buy authentic. I have to give Shane a 5 star review, because for $10 that is simply magnificent and worthy of a true craftsman. Not to mention that, he did not take advantage of me because of the brand and rarity of the watch, as many jewelry stores do. However, I wish that he did not bust my jubilation and excitement as a new watch collector, who finally was able to buy a new Patek Philippe watch. To me this was a small achievement of sorts. I own, Rolex, Omega, Tag Heuer , Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Grand Seiko, Zenith and now finally the holy grail of watches.... and here I thought he was a lover of these devices, but to say that a watch is only worth its gold content, is just absurd to me as a collector. We collect watches for different reasons, it may be the watch you remember your father wearing, or the first watch your grandfather bought, or a watch you could never afford and finally you got the place were you could buy one. It could be how it looks, or because it is your favourite colour, or it could be because of the make of the watch and the reputation of the maker. It could be all sorts of reasons why we find certain watches to be special, and as sentimental as they may be, complexity of the movement may have nothing to do with it. This of course came to me from my friend who drove the watch over and had it serviced. He basically relayed what Shane said and feels that I got scammed and I lost a lot of face with my friend who now thinks I got taken to the cleaners for buying the watch. He thinks Patek watches can be bought for 1200, lol. Perhaps they can be if you are in the right place at the right time, but not on an auction style market where lots of watch collectors partake in. My friend told me that I should think twice before I buy another watch as I don't seem to be a good judge of their value. Ouch. (Who is he going to believe, the master watchmaker who he just saw fix a Antique for $10 in a matter of minutes, or his friend who had no idea what was wrong with it, but was ecstatic that he could finally afford to buy one.) ...but seriously, show me a Patek Phillipe pocket watch selling for the price of its gold? Shane you are awesome, and I am sure you think how fast some brands have risen in price is just ridiculous, as do I, but I wish you did not take it out on those of us caught up in this market as being fools. After all, it is the demand and interest of others that drives the supply and demand curve and it is that curve that determines how expensive these watches are. I think Shane is a prodigy of watch fixing, who sees the watches for what they really are and not much more, this is why he can fix them without having a minor heart attack, that said, to some of us they are like babies, we think they are special and unique and ours. Then we hear whispers of how ugly that baby is, and it hurts.

My 1954 Omega Seamaster after getting it back from the amazing watch repair man Shane Ede. The watch was my dads and came into my hands 30 years ago after he passed away too soon. I hadn't worn it since I got it. At Christmas my son Thomas saw it on my bureau and told me to get it serviced and repaired. The 12:00 marker had fallen off and two of the lume markers had come loose as well. The crystal was in rough shape along with the crown not being correct. The metal band wasn't original either. I initially took it to an Omega dealer, European Boutique @ Yorkdale Mall in TO. They told me that it had to go to Montreal for an estimate but it would be a minimum of $1,250.00. I paid them $50.00 to get an estimate. A week later they called me and said the estimate was going to be a minimum of $2,180.00 and that it had to be sent back to Switzerland because the crown and stem were not available in North America. That didn't include the watch band that we were looking at for $200.00 plus sales tax. So now we're at $2,700.00 plus who knows? That was too rich for me. I told them that I wanted the watch back. When I went to pick the watch up it was most unpleasant. I asked for a copy of the estimate so I could see what I would have got for my money and the man that was the head of the service dept @ European Jewlers said they don't provide written estimates, he was like someone in front of a judicial committee that couldn't recall. Asshole. I decided to look on Yelp to see if there was an independent repair person that I could have look at the watch. I found Shane Ede he had 25 reviews on Yelp, all were 5 stars. Most were fairly lengthy and a lot of people had been given what they thought were high estimates and were very happy they delt with Shane. Thomas and I visited Shane last Tuesday he spent 15-20 minutes talking to us, opening up the watch and checking with his supplier if they had a crown. All was good he told me that he would take care of it servicing, regulating, replacing 12 lume dots, new crystal, new crown and replacing the stem because it had been shortened to fit the replacement crown that my dad had put on the watch (no charge for the stem), new gasket, new ring (I think that holds the crystal), polished the case and a new band all for $340.00. Visiting Shane was like taking a trip to middle earth and meeting a Jerry Garcia look alike except 80 lbs lighter. The man was the most welcoming person you could meet. Thank you Shane. I'll wear it on occasion and it will be Thomas's some day. I've been wearing since I picked it up this afternoon and every time it look at it I think of my dad. Good times.

I had already (surprise) proposed to my fiance with a placeholder ring - the next step for us was to start shopping. We heard about Hollywood Diamond through word-of-mouth, and thought we could sit down to educate ourselves about diamonds, as well as try on some settings. Thach and his wife had the patience of saints to sit down with us for 2 hours to educate us on the 4 C's of a diamond, lab vs. mined, sizing, settings, literally any question and concern we could think of - Thach took seriously and alleviated our thoughts. Overall, it was a very pleasant, low pressure experience and to seal the deal, the pricing was unbeatable when we compared to online retailers. The cherry on top was that we were visiting from Vancouver, and Hollywood Diamond was able to get the ring completed for us in 10 days! (A girl can dream a little.) So years ago I sent my BF a picture of a ring. I didn't think he would have saved it and it was a low resolution photo too (our phones' quality weren't as great as they are now). He told me he went to Hollywood Diamond with this photo and they worked with him every step of the way to recreate this ring. They showed him the diamonds available. They also taught him how to look at diamonds and understand the quality of each. They had a prototype made so he can see how the band would look before placing the diamonds on. They did a few adjustments until it was perfect. He told me the whole process took less than a month. I'm so in love with my engagement ring. It is a dream come true! I no longer have to look at photos since I can wear it in reality. I did have to get my ring resized. Did you know that your fingers thin during the winter? They gave me those ring guards for free! The ring resize process was effortless. They had the ring ready for pick up the very next day!
