I stumbled upon Michy's IG (@hairbymichy) after seeing a lot of the people I know going to her to get their hair done. I followed her for a while before deciding to get my hair done. Her work is amazing and beautiful. She does consultation through her DMs on IG and will let you know what you need to do before making your appointment. I came in for a test strand and finally got to meet her to talk about my hair. She was very nice and helpful. I was lucky to grab an earlier appointment within that week because she had a cancellation. My hair was hideous like I did not know I was walking around with my hair looking like that. My hair had been through a lot of box dye so to see her work her magic and got my hair so light, I was surprised! I showed her a picture of the color I was aiming for and she DID THAT. I took a risk and went lighter than I normally would and I LOVE IT. Michy did an amazing job and I'll have to say, she's my forever hairstylist. While I do love this salon, unfortunately you have to go through the rudest receptionist. I never leave bad reviews but I've been coming to Shampu for years and I still hate having to call and make an appointment with Brandon. After many years, he still answers and speaks to clients with an attitude. I recommended my stylist to my sister but my sister hung up the phone on Brandon because he was so rude to her when she tried to make an appointment. It took a month for her to be able to call back and deal with the attitude because I insisted she go to my stylist. I can't imagine the potential clients he has cost the salon/stylists to lose out on because of his lack of care and professionalism. I went in after my hair got BOTCHED and turned green after going to another salon asking for a very silvery blonde to replace my white blonde at the time. This place requires a consultation before getting your hair done but it's free and it's so they know your hair history and what measures they will have to take. Be prepared to be in the salon for 2-6 hours if you're getting balayage. So eat before or Ubereats. They also validate parking but make sure to tell the workers so they can do it for you. The parking lot is next to cyclone anaya's but there isn't always someone there to take your car. If that's the case, you can still park into the private lot and usually someone will come in later to the shop to give you a ticket and get your keys. Alina was so great and she made sure I was always comfortable. It's very easy to talk to her and she updates you as everything is happening. I believe she is one of the newer stylists but I'm so glad I found her! She does many types of hair jobs and I will definitely keep her as my hairstylist. read more

This is my second time at Shampu and I've gone to Michy both times. I found her on IG and her work is amazing! Please see it for yourself @hairbymichy :) she asks you what you want but the outcome always turns out better than what you request! The first time I went to her, she automatically engaged with me in small talks and got to know me. It took her more than 6 hours to do my hair (my hair is really long and thick) but she truly took her time. I never felt rushed. She enjoyed the outcome as much as I did. And I've gotten compliments on my hair everyday since!! And even after about 7 months of growth the balayage still looked seamless and great! The second time was just as great of an experience as the first. She was so sweet to welcome me with a hug and she remembered a lot of the things we talked about from the first time. I went in for a darker balayage look. After she toned it I already fell in love with it in the first look. However after blow drying you can tell it was way lighter than what I wanted. Although I really really would've been fine with how it was at that moment (to me I'm fine with anything michy does haha) but she told me it would be in her conscious if I left the salon and it only got lighter from there (in the case that the color fades). So she was so so so so sweet to re-tone it for me to get it darker like I intended. Wow! She was so awesome. Didn't make it a big deal and didn't rush the process at all either. And it turned out perfect! BTW sorry this was a long one but Michy has a customer forever and she definitely deserves recognition. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair!:) Also, the salon is currently under renovation but it's turning out so beautiful! Can't wait to see the final outcome. I came in for the 1st time for a balayage "RETOUCH". My hair was done by Caroline. She is an amazing sweet girl but this is how my hair ended up.... we agreed on a date and she agreed to fix it NO charge. Date came (week later) and salon called me to reschedule. The second appt came... salon called me AGAIN to reschedule because Carolyn was going to be out until further notice. They gave me the option to see another stylist but made clear I would have to pay again. This is my hair... I can't pay for something that was not done right the first time and paid OVER $300 for the service. Reception guy said he would get back to me and NEVER did. In the 7 years I have lived in Houston I have probably seen 5 different hairstylists and never been fully satisfied... until I saw Taylor at Shampu! They offer a valet service with the restaurant next door but the only other option is paid street parking. I parked a block away and had to add time twice. I called the salon for an appointment and was able to find an open Saturday with ~4 weeks notice. Taylor took the time to talk to me about what I wanted, suggested techniques to take care of my hair (but didn't push selling me product) and kept me informed with each step of the process. Michelle Fournier! I'm so glad I found her. She's sooo patient and really cares about her clients. Instead of just doing what the client asks, even if it means risking the integrity of their hair, she gives her input and steers you in the right direction. I've had a lot of colorists give me false hope on the results that they could deliver, but Michelle doesn't do that at all! My first appointment with her was a consultation, where we talked about what my hair goals are and if it was even possible to get there. I wanted to go really light, but she told me that it would cause a lot of breakage so she gave me some other healthier options. Not only does she do color, but she's also certified in tape-in extensions. Due to all of the breakage that my hair had experienced, I decided to go with this as an option. The installation was super quick and painless! It's been about 3 weeks and they're still in great condition. I was referred to Shampu by a friend and was really excited to get a full balayage and finally get my hair done after quarantine.I drove 45 minutes from the suburbs to downtown after scheduling my appointment and waiting three weeks to finally get in... So by the time she would have finally been done with my hair it would've been 11 o'clock at night... The atmosphere is extremely cool... But I won't be back. The owner is very aloof and too cool for school. The prices are high so I'm guessing the stylist are very well trained. I don't mind paying top dollar for my hair... But I expect 100% professionalism and over the top service. I was ready to pay $500 for my hair, but this place did not meet the standard to pay tht price. I booked an appointment with her and she did an amazing job on my hair, I couldn't have asked for better. This review is a little over due, about two months, and my hair still looks amazing ! I get compliments on it from complete strangers asking where I got it done. It's exactly what I wanted and is pretty close to the inspiration pictures I showed her. I had my consultation via text and it was quick and simple. I sent her photos of my current hair and what I wanted the end goal to be. The whole process of bleaching, toning, washing, and styling was about 6 hours. Extrerrrmely long but I have that stubborn Asian dark hair that takes forever to bleach. Since I was there my whole entire afternoon, she kindly picked up food for me from a nearby restaurant while my hair was processing. I've had my hair bleached/tone/all that jazz previously from another salon but I remember it didn't take that long. I hated it cause my hair was so many different colors and brassy in a lot of areas. I guess it's true that "good things come to those who wait" because I'm in love with my hair ! She really took her time on my hair, making sure it was how I wanted everything to be. She reached out to me a few days after getting my hair done and asked how it was doing. I told her I wished it was lighter at the bottom layers of my hair so you can see the blonde when I tied my hair up. She told me I could come in the next day and she would put in complimentary highlights for me. While I was there, she also toned my hair again free of charge. Sooo nice. She didn't have to do that so I really appreciated it. Getting your hair done well is a hefty price tag. But learn from me, you'd rather pay a little extra to have good hair than to pay a little less to have a catastrophe of splotchy brassy hair. read more

Discovered @teaseitwithtaylor "Taylor" at Shampu early 2020, by mid 2020 diagnosed with oral cancer learning radiation & chemo would create hair loss. Cannot praise Taylor enough for how she cared for my compromised hair while keeping the perfect shade of blonde. Working around 1/3rd bald head and 50% hair on what was left after chemo, as well as hair loss that being almost 57 can cause. Some stylist perfect skills during their career, some come into the industry with ennate understanding of color. Taylor definitely falls into the latter category. I booked an appointment and specified that I need a roots touch up for platinum blonde hair. Exchanged some texts with the hair dresser and told her that I wanted platinum blonde roots to match my already platinum blonde hair. Michy is bomb. I normally don't last long with hairstylist but I actually have been going to her back to back (which isn't normal for me). Her color blends are always on point. She replies fast through her IG and is very helpful and knowledgeable about caring for your hair. Phuongie is also bomb doing cuts on men and my boyfriend goes to her from now on. In all honesty, from the many clients that walk out of the salon, seems like all the stylists are bomb. The salon is pretty laid back and has a modern look to it. Their shampoo bowls also have chairs that massages you so that's pretty fancy. Every now and then, Benji (the frenchie) comes out and play.
