First things first...I'm Black and from the east coast. That may not mean much to anyone here, but if you just moved here you will notice that there are not many stylists that can do Black hair or if there happens to be one, she/he charges and arm and a leg for their services. So, i visited a salon called Wally's on Otay Lakes road in the plaza with Dominos and 7/11. A lady named Renee cut my hair....but did NOT do what I asked. I was so upset. I was referred to Charlie at Shampoo's to get my haircut fixed. She did a FABULOUS job with my hair and I was so happy I tipped her $10, on top of the $65 she charged for the cut. It was well worth it, in my opinion. Where Renee at the other salon couldn't cut a simple angled bob, Charlie fixed her "work" and did a hell of a job. She is from Chicago and used to own her own shop so you know she means business. I've referred friend after friend and I just had to leave a positive remark about her on here. Charlie is wonderful. I will have her cut my hair again this month. I'm so looking forward to it. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!!!! KARLA RIQUE cut my hair for the first time on Thursday. I walked in with long hair down to my waist with long layers (see first picture). I asked Karla to follow my existing hair cut - I just needed to have the layers reshaped and the length shortened by 2-3 inches. I also brought her a picture (see second picture) so there would no confusion. She not only CUT my hair 4-5 inches (way to short and not what I had asked her for!!!) but while holding my chopped off hair in her hand she asked me if the length was ok! I told her she had cut WAY to much off and I asked Karla why she would CUT first and ask me later! Who does that? She finished my haircut and it looked NOTHING like what I had asked for! Karla then tried to fix my haircut by adding layers to my hair. At this point my hair was a mess ... and so short! Basically butchered my hair! I told Karla that I didn't understand why she was unable to duplicate the hairstyle in the picture and I basically had walked in with the haircut I was asking for. Karla left my hair uneven, choppy, and what she called layers was a row of chopped up hair in the middle of my hair not to mention way to short! I wanted to cry and she knew it! I left and immediately went to another salon who fixed my hair. The length of my hair should have ended up 1-2 inches below my bra strap ... I now have short hair because of Karla! Much shorter than the third picture I posted because the second salon had to fix my hair. That night - I asked Karla to either refund my haircut of $25.00 or reimburse my second haircut of $18.00 which was necessary to fix the haircut she gave me. Karla REFUSED! Karla said I didn't give her the opportunity to fix my hair. I told her she didn't give me the haircut I asked for, she then proceeded to try and fix it by adding layers and I told Karla that not only had I lost ALL confidence in her ability but I just didn't have anymore hair left for her to try and fix my hair a third time. I called the owner the next day and his response was "the stylist are independent and I just collect the rent on their space. I get paid regardless of what they do - so that's between you and Karla". So ladies ... I can't speak for the other stylist - but with a salon owner who takes no accountability for the stylists who work there - good luck if you ever get a bad haircut and definitely DON'T GO TO KARLA RIQUE! I gave Karla the opportunity to do the right thing and she refused. Karla preferred that I go to YELP and share my negative experience rather than do the right thing by a client. read more

Got my hair cut from Karla, very sweet lady but unfortunately I didn't like my haircut. I had told her I wanted long bangs to my chin and she ended up cutting them to short whatever it's just hair and it will grow back but then she ended up charging me $45 for a haircut I didn't like and I had called before I went and the lady on the phone told me that the haircuts vary between $30-$35...and I even repeated myself to the lady on the phone....if I would have known it was that expensive, I wouldn't have gone. This review is specifically regarding Trina not the other stylists at shampoos. I came in for a shoulder length bob cut, having waist length hair. I even brought in photo of the style. Before she started i told her i had thick wavy hair that has a tendency to frizz. She said ok as if she understood. All Trina did was cut off my hair to my shoulders in one straight line, blow dried it a bit, flat ironed slightly and said she was done. No texturizing. When I said I wanted more weight taken off, she proceeded to hack away with a razor. I've had texturizing with the razor before but not like this. She basically razored off chunks of my hair in random places. There was no attempt to blend anything. The appointment was thirty min start to finish. The shop is very nice. All the merchandise is right up front. Charlie is a great stylist. She has been doing my hair for almost 3 years now. She is always on time. She completes your hair in a great amount of time. You are the only client she works on. Other salons, the stylist would be working on me along with 4 other people. I've had my nails done at the salon as it's very personal, not rows and rows of tables and chairs. Never had my nails lift! Rick and his wife do a great job. I was in the market for a new hair stylist last year and Don introduced himself to me while I was getting a pedicure. He was friendly, open and funny so I booked an appointment with him and have been seeing him ever since. My cuts are always good as he hears what I'm saying and asks me to clarify just so no miscommunications happen. Great on color as well! The salon doesn't have a huge retail section buy I'm loyal and will buy my haircare products from them. If they don't have something I want I ask and Rick makes sure to get it in time for my next appointment. First of all, Karla is AMAZING! Absolutely amazing! I moved to San Diego from Hawaii a few months ago and was in desperate need of some hair lovin. It was so dead, bone dry, and VERY severely damaged. After my first appointment with her my hair was already looking better.
