Rico's on 3rd is known throughout the whole southbay community. This salon does amazing work for those battling breast cancer or cancer in general. I called and set an appointment for my friend who is battling breast cancer and they treated her like a queen, the owner who is a survivor was very helpful and beyond kind in helping with info, a haircut and other resources. Honestly, this place I cannot express how amazing they are.I am grateful for them and the amazing work they do! They have a private room so that the person has their privacy and feels special. Good service, good dye, decent time within getting an appointment. Very disappointed with my haircut though :( The bangs I got were blunt cuts rather than blended cuts, and the cuts made on each side were uneven. Seemed like a careless cut with not enough experience to do the kind of cut I desired (curtain bangs) on wavy hair. Didn't notice how bad it was until my hair dried at home, so I am feeling quite embarrassed about the low quality of my haircut :/ Not worth the expensive price I paid. read more

Visited Rico's for the very first time on Friday. I had accidentally written down my kiddos appointments for Friday instead of Thursday at 4:30. That being said, we showed up and were greeted by Raquel, she was with a client ( her husband ), she let me know that my appointment was on Thursday not Friday. I let her know we could reschedule, it was no problem. She graciously took both of my kids for haircuts, no problem. I felt horrible as she was pretty much ready to head home before we had arrived. What a neat lady, she was so easy to talk to, they also have a nonprofit for those battling cancer, you can come in and they will fit you for a wig and style it for no cost to the client,how amazing is that! Working with cancer patients for almost 20 years, It is a fact that looking good makes you feel better. I waited 20 min for them to do a bang trim on me, I had went before and they had done a great job $7 fast and easy. When I went recently I noticed they raised the price to $10 and I was fine with that but when she was finished with my bangs they weren't even/straight and she charged me $15. I can't understand how I could show somebody a photo of the haircut that I wanted. It turned out to be nothing like what was in the photo. This is absolutely the worst haircut I've ever had in my entire life. She attempted to do something creative to the back of my neck and I had to return and although it was a little better I am horrified by what the front of my hair looks like. I'm debating if I should just shave my head and start from scratch. I didn't need to be reminded that my hair will grow back in a few months. I had gone to the most expensive places in Beverly Hills and they ruined my hair, but Brook did such an amazing job highlighting my really dark hair with very fair price and not even a bit damage to my hair. I had an epic review in place because I did not enjoy my time at Rico's . I went in for highlights and a trim. It took too long and I was not entirely pleased with my time there. At the time I was very angry and disappointed at how long it took and the fact that I had to share Erika (my stylist) with two other clients. Now that my anger has subsided I can say that Erika was working hard and that she simply had too much work on her plate. She was slow but in order to get hair right one must take their time. I didn't like that she had clients waiting while others were being helped . It was as if she was the only stylist that was doing color. I didn't like how long it took and I ended up leaving without having my hair blow dried or styled because I had to be somewhere else. My sister ended up drying and straightening my hair . My hair wasn't exactly what I wanted but it looks nice and natural so I am not too upset about that. Rico's is nice and the staff is friendly but they are popular so I wasn't used to so many people having one stylist. I would recommend this place however I just wasn't used to having to share my stylist. They get the job done . read more

I went in in January to get a hair cut and Brenda was able to sit me right in, i was a walk-in, she is very attentive to detail. I went in later that week to get my eyebrows waxed, with Brenda also, she did an amazing job both cutting my hair and waxing my eyebrows. The only con is their credit card machine doesn't work sometimes, so be sure to have cash handy just in case, I had to run to the 7 eleven near by to get some cash out. read more

I love, love, love this place!! I initially called them because I had gotten a groupon for which was supposed to be for full highlights, cut, and deep conditioning. When I called, it turned out that the lady who posted the groupon actually never worked there - and I was the 5th person to call. BUT - they felt super bad and didn't want to turn customers away so they had a stylist do everything included in the groupon for the SAME low price of $90!! I thought that was so awesome of them, I'm in college and can barely afford my morning coffee. Anyway, Brooke ended up being my stylist who took really good care of my hair which was saturated with Sun-In and box dye. She did an AMAZING job, my hair went from a crappy, long neglected DIY disaster to a beautiful blonde that practically looked like Barbie's hair. I've been going to Brooke ever since and I don't plan on going anywhere else for my hair anytime soon, she honestly is the best colorist/stylist I've ever had, I would highly recommend her! read more

I went here for a color, cut & style on a very cold wet Saturday. I must say that after 5 hours, Erica did an AMAZING job on my hair. It took so long because I have very long hair, stubborn greys and I also got highlights. If I could give Erica 5 stars I would. BUT....the parking situation is ridiculous!!! The meters only give you a 2 hour maximum time. So I had to run out 3 TIMES to feed the meter!!! So there I was, running in the rain to my car with foils in my hair, the 2nd time with my hair soaking wet and the last time in the middle of getting styled. You would think that one of the other employees would have offered to help. They were not with other clients, they were there straight ironing their own hair or just sitting around watching a customer run out of their shop in the rain wearing an apron with foils in their hair. Customer service is just too much to ask for in this place. Im not saying they should do this all the time but if a client has color dripping down their neck, maybe they shouldnt be running out of their shop on a busy street with lots of foot and car traffic. Most salons want their customers looking fabulous when they leave the shop not looking crazy. Once I was done, they tell me the Credit Card machine doesnt work. So im taken to the back alley and told to walk to the end of the block and turn left to a bank's ATM. After 5 hours and running in the rain 3x's with wet hair to feed the meter, I dont want to walk in the cold rain to get cash. Im not sure I would go back except that Erica really did a phenomenal job on my hair. Im just not sure if its worth all the other bs. Getting my hair done should be relaxing, my experience was far from enjoyable. read more

I went into their salon with such a mess for hair that I didn't have very high expectations. I figured I would be coaxed into cutting my butt length hair at least up to my shoulders but fortunately for me I had an appointment with Snookie. She was beyond awesome on all counts. I was super nervous but she made me comfortable right away. She listened to what I wanted and got to it. She spent over 2 hours making sure it was perfect, who does that anymore? She totally got what I wanted and didn't try and upsell a bunch of products on me. The product she did use in my hair smelled so good though that I think I will go back and buy some.
