What is Shakes Alive trying to be?? I visited after finding the business on Yelp, and it appearing to be an ice cream/dessert location - but once I got there, was assaulted by the signage and aggressive advertising for everything BUT ice cream, including sandwiches, entrees, etc. The shake menu was sort of tucked to the side and hard to read, so I eventually opted for a simple hot fudge sundae. It was decent, but not great - I felt I could've received similar soft serve from a fast food restaurant. Overall, a confusing visit. Not sure I would visit again, for ice cream anyways. read more

My daughter and I visited this place a few times when we visited EP in mid July; its that good. When I was a kid, a fruit smoothie place was in the spot that this place is now in and my family would always go and get a couple fruit smoothies. This place's smoothie's tasted eerily similar; which is an amazing thing. We didn't partake in the food because frankly, I had no idea what it all was as it is Mexican food. But we definitely had a few smoothies over the four days that we were in EP. They were super friendly and really fast when making our smoothies. Soft serve is pretty good! The workers were cleaning up an hour before close which is understandable but made us nervous to go in. But they treated us nicely and the ice cream came out fast. This is One of the best Milkshake places I have ever been to! The Service was great and the server was really nice. It only took about 1 minute for him to whip up one Milkshake! Once he had given it to me and I tasted it it was amazing and I will definitely come back here in the future! Ordered the Just Peachy Smoothie with peach overload flavor. It's nice and light for an afternoon snack. Daughter ordered a frozen yogurt with M&Ms in it. It took a few minutes but the servers brought the food right out to us as we waited outdoors. There are only about three stools inside so inside seating is not really an option. Staff was unfriendly, food was mediocre. Got the turkey gobbler; turkey, (no cheese), tomato and shredded lettuce with a little vinaigrette on it, cranberry on the side. All other condiments in packets. For $1 you can add chips, for $2 you can make it a 'boxed' lunch and add chips, pickle and a "side salad". I use the term salad lightly, because it was just cheap shredded iceberg for the sandwiches with a little vinaigrette on it. As though some of my sandwich topping slid off my bread into a pile. The service was very good. I think it was the owner working, but either way he was very nice. The smoothie itself was not quite the freshest ingredients (maybe frozen?) and came out very runny and watery. Unfortunately, this will be my only impression. The price is right, which explains why it's so difficult to get in here! It's extremely small and cramped, avoid it during normal lunch hours. There are only like three tables outside, and be careful of the wind. My chips went flying. The shakes are delicious, sandwiches are very hearty for their price, and come as a full meal. This is the home of the best low-fat frozen yogurt malt I have ever had, and I've had probably more than my fair share. It's hard to find malts or shakes made with anything other than super-rich real ice cream that are worth going back for, and Shakes Alive definitely nailed it. They're only open seasonally (May through September or October, I should think), and thus far for 2015 it's only been the owner of this location himself who has been working behind the counter, but he's on the ball and service is both personable and efficient. The breakfast sandwiches, as brought up by a previous reviewer, are fantastic; you get to have your choice of meat with egg and cheese on your choice of bagel or in a wrap. I had the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on the "everything" bagel and it was definitely the best bagel sandwich in town. I'm actually fairly certain that this is the *only* sandwich shop in town that offers bagel sandwiches, but that shouldn't detract from the above statement. They also have a variety of other sandwiches--roast beef, turkey, and tuna melts, for instance--all available on bagels or ciabatta bread that's really quite delectable. For shakes, you've got your choice of shakes, malts, smoothies, or protein-packed whey-infused super drinks like you can get down in town from huge smoothie chains crewed by cadres of teen-aged worker drones that alternate between apathetic and sycophantic as they churn you through their fifteen-part assembly line for decent smoothies, or from a friendly neighborhood Shakes Alive where the smiling face that takes your order is attached to the same pair of hands that spin your shake. I definitely know which one I'll be coming back to. My favorite malt so far is a custom concoction (which the owner was enthusiastic about putting together for me), a chocolate marshmallow espresso dreamscape of heavenly dairy dessert, whipped into a flavor frenzy. Of all 6 of our party that ordered something, not a single one of us wasn't more than pleased with what we ordered. The smoothies, obviously, were fantastic. In fact many of us agreed they were some of the best smoothies any of us have had in a long time. Mine in particular was strawberry banana with whey protein. I can assure you that from all the protein smoothies I've had in my life this was by far the best tasting. It is the only smoothie I've had that I could not taste the whey in. The breakfast foods eaten by my party were raved about. Every person agreed they were unbelievably delicious. And the bagels were some of the best we've had. The interior of the shop is admittedly cramped, but the man who runs the shop is extremely friendly and welcoming. Frozen yogurt is my favorite treat, and Shakes Alive is one of only two spots in Estes Park that offer it. It used to be the better one, but no longer. With the new owner comes a much increased price (by more than $1 per serving) and a much decreased portion, which gets smaller every time I go in. First, they started using much smaller cups; then, they started putting much less froyo into the smaller cups. I've complained, to no avail. The counter staff is not the least bit friendly. Though the withdrawals may be bad, I'm no longer going to patronize Shakes Alive. read more

Let me start by saying I was in Estes Park for Three days and I went here every single day! :D It is one of the best places to go here, not just for shakes, but in general one of the best! I am highly addicted to shakes and I loved coming here to satisfy my cravings. We were staying at the Stanley Hotel and it was right down the hill. The guy was always so nice when we stopped in each time too. And he really gave me some good recommendations. That is how I came to try my fav the Chai Tea milkshake on our last day! OMG it was yummy! I also did like my strawberry milkshake too but the chai is where it's at! The royal with the peach and strawberry (the fuzzy strawberry) was good too if you want something different than a milkshake. And the portions are huge!!!!!! I would highly recommend you stop here if you are in Estes Park :) They also do some delicious bagel sandwiches! The sausage and egg is wow! And a cheap alternative to eating at a restaurant! This was a pleasant surprise. My wife and i spent the day driving up from Longmont to the top of Trail Ridge Road in RMNP and in doing so disnt have a chance to eat. On our way to our hotel we decided to stop to get a bite quick. We initially pulles in the lot to go to Subway wanting something quick and the saw Shakes Alive which we try to go local. Shakes Alive Fruit Shakes is a great place to pick up a quick breakfast, lunch, or simple dinner in Estes Park. The selection isn't huge food-wise, but the quality makes up for this. If you are headed to Rocky Mountain National Park, or need a snack/meal before any outdoor activity, Shakes Alive is a great option. The breakfast sandwich (egg, cheese, and ham on a bagel) is my favorite. It's simple, but SO good. I always get a fruit shake with my meal, or a smoothie, and every single one I have tried has been yummy.
