I came here with a friend for a late lunch, and was immediately greeted at the door and offered a menu. We both ordered on the kiosks, and even though the upstairs was very busy, were kindly directed to towards the seating area downstairs. It'd been a while since I'd last had Shake Shack, but I had a craving and ordered pick-up online. With its proximity to the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park, this location can get quite busy, but I went for a very late lunch or very early dinner, so the lines weren't too long. My pick-up experience was very positive, thanks to the friendly, helpful staff. When I arrived, I couldn't locate the pick-up counter, so I asked one of the staff. They told me and very kindly guided me to where it was, at the back of the restaurant. The staff with the pick-up orders was also very friendly. Although it was a very short time, by the time I got home, the food wasn't hot. I'd arrived before my pick-up time, but my order was already there, so maybe it'd been sitting there for a bit. Both my Shack Burger and Fries were still good, though. Their burgers aren't as greasy as some other places and the fries are crinkle cut fries. I love ketchup and realized after I got home that I should've gotten extra, because I use it for both my burger and fries, and it only came with 2 packets. Note for next time. I came to grab lunch here during my day at the Natural History Museum. At first I couldn't understand why no one was at the register for me to place my order and I waited there for about 10 minutes but then I realized that even though they had a register, it wasn't in use. I went to one of the iPads provided near the register to manually enter my order. I like ordering from the iPad although a little face-to-face interaction never hurt anyone. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a diet coke. The food was made and delivered quickly and it was delicious. I love shake shack and I've enjoyed the burgers and fries as well as the black and white milkshakes for a long time. I still remember the first time I tried Shake Shack in 2012. This place is ridiculously slow. As in, I've been here twice and although I've ordered for small parties (4 people) each time, it's never taken me faster than 20-30min to get my order. Staff is hardly what I'd call friendly. If you MUST order here, use the kiosks as they're faster than ordering from the often unmanned register. Also be aware that their portions are tiny. As my mom says, they're "kid-sized burgers for adult prices". We received creamsicle shake at perhaps half the cup full, even before it melted. I'd recommend eating your burgers fresh, and while there's limited seating here (even on the second floor), you can bring your food across the street to one of the many benches at the Museum of Natural History on a nice day. The burgers are decent enough but the quality and quantity has definitely gone downhill from when I enjoyed my first Shake Shack. If anything, I'd recommend the Shack Stack for a spicy burger, or the Shroom Burger. The Korean-style fries and burger are sold here for a limited time and they aren't bad either. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I have never encountered such atrocious treatment from any establishment before. It was a complete waste of time even going to the cashier. The young woman working at the front counter, along with what I assume is the supervisor on duty--an African American lady who was shouting orders from the back--demonstrated a shocking lack of customer service skills. If she claims to be a leader, she should be removed immediately, as her behavior clearly shows she does not understand the meaning of proper customer care. I didn't even get the chance to enjoy my meal at Shake Shack or place an order because the front desk staff told us at 3:10pm on April 14 that she needed to process the employee's order first, implying that customers are not a priority. We waited patiently and clearly wanted to place our order, but eventually we gave up and left the counter because she left it ,leaving us standing. Additionally, I advise against bringing children here; don't bother taking more than two crayons, as it caused chaos because I took four crayons instead of two. Luckily, I visited a different Shake Shack afterward, where I received a completely different, much more positive experience. read more

I'm always a fan of Shake Shack. The food is pretty reliably good. This visit was no different. The only issues at this location was some of their communication/signs. They have a giant neon sign that has an arrow pointing people to pick up orders at one counter, but I watched as they told every person who came up to the counter to do that to go to a different counter for a pickup. On top of that, they were sold out of things without anything being marked as such on any menus or signs. Outside of those frustrations, the food was good, and even though it was packed, there was still quite a bit of seating here. Definitely give the Korean chicken sandwich while it's being served. Had to bring BF here to try Shake Shack in its natural habitat in NY, since we both had a meh experience at Shake Shack in Vegas. Brought him to the one I tried on my first NYC trip. Seating was still taped off as of late September 2021 and they prefer you ordering at their kiosks. At least the restrooms downstairs were still available if you needed to use them. However, anything you order can't be consumed inside and since our hotel was not that close, we ate outside by one of the side streets and luckily finished our meal before it started to rain! I really wanted BF to try one of their concretes, but that's off the menu for now. Instead we ordered their cornflake chocolate drizzle shake ($6.29). New to me since my first NYC Shake Shack trip was the Chick'n Shack ($7.49) so we ordered that too, minus the pickle and add tomato. We also ordered the Shackburger Double ($8.99) and cheese fries ($4.15). BF completely agrees with me that the Shackburger Double tasted much better in NYC than in Vegas! We both enjoyed the Shackburger over the Chick'n Shack, though for a chicken sandwich, the Chick'n Shack was pretty good. The cheese for the cheese fries came on the side to avoid sogging up the fries too quickly and it was a very nice complement to the burgers. While I was sad we couldn't experience a Shake Shack concrete, the shake we got was very yummy. Yesterday, I received my shack burger it took an hour after I ordered it in the restaurant. I was looking forward to my new strawberry shake, but the whipped cream had melted.It was also cold and already hard. It was an unbelievable sight. However, all the staff in the restaurant were working hard together. In particular, the few female staff in charge of the floor were wonderful. The customers were all hot, tired of waiting, and groggy, but no one complained to them. So what was wrong with them? Probably the rush of deliveries and online orders. I think the system needs to be improved. As long as this system is not improved, I can't go to there in the weekend. They just opened a couple up in the bay area where we were visiting from but I am glad I saved my first experience for an east coast location. I'll be the first to admit I've never understood what the Shake Shack hype is all about. I had it once about a decade ago, and I liked it well enough, but I never quite grasped why people would wait in lines for hours for burgers and fries. My friend and I came for indoor dining to try their black truffle burger, only available December 2020 and only at the UWS and MadSqPk locations. There is one functioning self-serve kiosk for ordering, then you wait for them to call your name or text you if you left your number. Indoor diners were socially distanced with the help of spaced out tables and blocked off booths. We ordered the black truffle burger with cheese fries, Fifty/Fifty drink (lemonade and iced tea), and 2 shakes (cookies and cream, and strawberry). The food was unfortunately pretty disappointing. The truffle burger was a bit dry and didn't taste much like truffles, the cheese for the cheese fries was too thick and not conducive to dipping, and the drink was overly tart. The best part of the meal was the fries, which were crispy and warm, and the shakes (even though they gave me chocolate instead of cookies and cream, but I didn't realize til we left bc we'd ordered it to go). If I weren't rating the burger on its juiciness or the cheese sauce on its consistency, I'd say everything was okay bc the flavors were good. The reason for the 4-star review is definitely because of the great service of the Shake Shack team. Everyone we encountered was friendly, courteous, and ready to go above and beyond to help us out with anything we needed. So you order easily and about 10 minutes later, a hamburger is dumped on a tray in a tiny little bag, falling over, the hamburger and its contents all falling around so that it is totally unappetizing. You take it to a table -- they do offer to take it for you, I have no idea why -- and you find that it is cooked but barely warm, there is no hint of anything truffle-like and it is presented as a messy "thing" that is hardly appetizing. For this, you are really lucky, you get to pay $11 !! My only question is ....why after a dismal experience several years ago, I even considered going back...just a sucker for truffles -- not that there appeared to be anything like a truffle -- I guess. read more

One of my go-to Shake Shacks being in the UWS neighborhood. This was a review specific my visit last Thursday and really because of the limited edition Black Truffle Burger. :) Love that you get greeted upon entering and that Covid-19 protocols are in place. Temperature checks prior to getting in and ordering via kiosks, reduced to two 2 working kiosks to encourage social distancing. Ordered to go for me and my hubby to enjoy at home. In typical Shake Shack process, I got the text saying the food is ready so I head to the pickup counter but 20 mins after, our food hasn't come out yet. After asking someone, they had to look for my order and took another 10 mins til they located it. Of course that explains why the food wasn't hot anymore. :( Plus the fries were charged but wasn't included in the order. Giving 4 stars still because the Black Truffle Burger was good. If you're a truffle lover like me, you're going to enjoy it. Now the hot chicken bites needs improvement. It's dipped in chili powder but the chicken itself needed seasoning. We got off to a bit of a rocky start when I tried to order using a gift card and the person behind the register told me there was a remaining balance on the card instead of a balance due. I saw that there was some confusion and went back to clear it up and pay the remaining balance. Luckily, I did, because otherwise the order wouldn't have been pushed to the kitchen. The wait was about 15 minutes, which was expected during busy lunch hour. If you're just ordering a shack burger from here, you're doing it wrong. You must get the Shack Stack unless you are allergic to dairy. That's what I got this (and every visit). I also got the limited edition, churro shake. I normally make it a habit of ordering each limited-edition shake at least once before they're gone. The churro shake was amazing. I'm not sure how they managed to get the little bits of churro to stay crunchy, but it was good, and I would order it again. read more
