First and last time. We ordered the mushroom vegetarian burger and regular vegetarian burger... the burgers were the size of sliders - TINY! - and $10 each. The bread was flat and not fluffy. Visually it looked like a cheap, day old microwavable breakfast sandwich. Tasted OK, but would have gone to The Melt if I knew what I was getting. We also ordered the "grilled cheese"... wow. Just don't. Waste of money. Flatter than a pancake! And it was round?? and burnt black! The cheese is that cheap fluorescent American cheese. Gross. I've always liked Shake Shack and have been here several times before. But on this last visit with my wife, the food didn't hit the mark. I ordered the ShackBurger and my wife the 'Shroom Burger. The burger was good --- but not as great nor as appetizing looking as I've had in the past. But it hit the spot. My wife's 'Shroom Burger was awful. The description was "crisp-fried portobello mushroom filled with melted cheese." The portobello definitely wasn't "crisp-fried." It was soggy. And the melted cheese didn't taste like any cheese I've had before. It was something gooey that seemed to have come out of a tube. It really didn't work. Located at the Irvine spectrum, this spot was easy to access with convenient parking. When you enter, there are multiple ordering kiosk to the left. When placing your order, they have you grab a number from the side, enter it and find a table to place the number on while you wait. Seating inside was limited, but there were plenty of seating in the patio area. Although the restaurant was busy our food arrived within a reasonable amount of time. I love onions on my burgers so I love it here. The actual Big Mac Shack thing is alright. The price is good, it's $10 for a thick double double burger (these are also double sized patties). If you want to pay $72 for cold burgers, come to Shake Shack at a Saturday night . We placed our order on the self-service iPad, grabbed our own table, and then waited over 25 minutes for our food. We ordered the SmokeShack burger, French Onion Shack, chicken nuggets, a strawberry shake, and a beer. Since the wait was so long, I got up to pick up our drinks first. My go-to has been the OG ShackBurger with raw, sliced onions. There is just something about their toasted potato bun that hit this Cali girl differently than In-n-Out. It's sooo yums. I love their fresh, made-to-order 100% Angus beef ~ quarter pound patty and that melted American cheese over fresh lettuce & tomato. Mmm..my mouth is legit watering as I write this review. While I ALWAYS order a side of fries with my burger, depending on my mood and hunger level, I sometimes feel fancy and get cheese fries to round out my meal. I just love those crispy crinkle cut fries that have that satisfying soft center. To truly complete my meal, I love their refreshing strawberry lemonade on a hot day. You can really taste the real strawberry puree, perfectly marrying their house-made lemonade. It quenches my thirst every time. While yes, your Shack Shake meal will NEVER compare to your In-n-Out combo prices, however, it's still worth it now and then ~ esp. when I have that fast-food craving, but still want fresh quality ingredients. For what it's worth, I think this Shake Shack is better than the one in Long Beach, which I previously rated 3 stars, but my overall experience was still lacking that I can't quite give this location a 4th star. I was planning to watch a movie at Regal Irvine Spectrum, which is conveniently next to Shake Shack. I received an email a few days prior that gave me a promo code for a free Avocado Bacon Burger with a $10+ purchase. The morning of the day I was planning my afternoon getaway to Irvine, I got another email from Shake Shack with the same deal, but a different promo code! This promo code expired earlier and was pretty generic that I'm certain it could be used a multitude of times, even by the same customer. I hadn't been to Irvine Spectrum before, and when I parked my car in a parking garage next to Target, I realized that Shake Shack was on the opposite side of the shopping center! Not wanting to go through the trouble of finding parking again, I decided to make the ~10 minute walk across Irvine Spectrum. There are a few places that show directions to various businesses, Shake Shack being one of them, so it wasn't too difficult to find Shake Shack. I'm sure if I had made a wrong turn, a sign would have directed me to Shake Shack, or at least the nearby Regal. Upon entering, I saw a few kiosks to the left and a pickup counter in front of me. I initially discerned that we could only order via the kiosk, and so that's what I did. With the kiosk, you can customize burgers to your liking, like adding certain toppings or utilizing a different bun. Of course, if I was getting the Avocado Bacon Burger for free with $10+ purchase, I had to add the Avocado Bacon Burger to my order. I requested pickles, lettuce, tomato, sliced onions, and a side of ShackSauce, all at no additional charge. There was also an option for "Well Done", and I checked that even though I generally prefer "Medium Well" instead. For the $10+ purchase, it took me a while to decide, but I settled for the Shroom Burger, which uses a fried portobello mushroom as the patty, and the mushroom contains cheese. The base price is $9.99, so I had to add an upgrade, cherry peppers for 49 cents in this case, to make $10. I didn't remember seeing options for lettuce or tomato on the Shroom burger, but I made sure to add the other complimentary toppings. I had an e-gift card to use, but I couldn't find a way to use it. I was then trying to use a card that didn't have a chip, but I couldn't find a way to swipe it in the card reader, which I discerned could only take chip cards. So then I had to use a chip card to pay. After placing my order, I noticed a line by the pickup counter with an employee taking orders, flustering me a little because if I had known I could place my order there, I would have tried. But then again, I'm not sure they would have told me about the complimentary toppings that I had requested on the kiosk. I was anxiously waiting for my order while trying to find an unoccupied table, either inside or in one of their two outdoor patios. It still wasn't enough to accommodate all the customers dining on this early Sunday afternoon! Actually, I did see a table open up, and I really wanted to tell them to hurry up with my order so I could eat there. Unfortunately, other customers who got their order(s) first claimed that table. Ugh! Once I got my order after about 14 minutes of waiting, I took my takeout bag outside, but couldn't find any empty tables, except for a couple just outside the front door, but with no chairs. I legitimately would have considered taking one of those tables and just standing to eat, potentially becoming an eyesore to passersby, but I luckily saw an open table in the shaded outdoor patio! Actually, there were three open tables right next to one another that when I sat down first, another customer asked me if he and his friends could sit at the tables next to me. And then moments later, a kid asked me if he could take the chair directly across from me. I wasn't using it, but I hope he returned that promptly. It would have helped significantly if Irvine Spectrum Center had generic tables and chairs for patrons of any eatery there. Luckily, the burgers themselves tasted good, though I would not say $20+ good since the normal price of both would have been well over $20 with tax. The ShackSauce was so thick that I couldn't pour them out of the cups. I wanted to keep my hands clean, but it would have been hard to if I'm dipping the burgers into the sauce cups. Also, each of the two burgers had a piece of onion dangling outside the box, one even touching the table when I set the box down! It was hard to keep the burgers in one piece, but I did like the overall flavor of both burgers, especially in conjunction with the ShackSauce. However, I probably won't return to this Shack, especially if it's usually this crowded. read more

Third time was not the charm. The tablets seemed to be having issues, so while everyone was giving up and getting in line at the counter, I placed an online order for a couple of drinks. Walked around and went back to the counter at the time my order was supposed to be ready. I could see a drink order that looked like mine in a drink carrier on the rack. Gave my name to the woman at the counter who looked at the carrier on the rack and then told me that my order wasn't ready. I hadn't received a text, so I waited five more minutes, which was at the end of the window that my order was supposed to be ready. Checking online, I could see that my order was completed. Once again, I gave my name to the same woman. She checked with the people fulfilling orders, who said they didn't have it and then looked at that carrier on the rack again. She told me my order wasn't ready. My husband asked, "Are you SURE that's not our order?" She looked again. It WAS our order the whole time. "Wait. I'll get you a replacement, she responded. I thought she was going to replace the drinks because they had gotten watered down by the melting ice but instead she got a new drink carrier because the other one had gotten soggy. She didn't even apologize. I HATE giving bad reviews but this was ridiculous. Having worked at a restaurant, I know customer service is key. I stopped by here for a snack. We ordered fries to split and a vanilla and chocolate shake. You can ask the staff to split up one shake into two cups. You also have the option of ordering at a kiosk but we ordered with a cashier since we wanted to customize our order and didn't want to deal with the system for that. One thing we noticed was the shake menu on display above the counter doesn't mention that you can get one shake that's a combination of Vanilla and Chocolate. The fries are always delicious here. Right amount of crispiness and saltiness. The shake is to die for. I hope they bring back the BOGO promotion for shakes this year. There's a bench inside if you want to sit while waiting for your togo order. The staff is helpful when they give you your order and get you additional condiments, napkins, straws, etc. I've never been to Shake Shack and there wasn't a line but the wait wasn't too bad on Sunday around 4pm. My only Shake Shack experience was in NY and it was only once and it was years ago. It was not my favorite and I'm a SoCal In N Out girl, but between friends, we got to compromise sometimes. My feelings for the burger remain true to my initial experience, average tasting and kinda expensive. However, my friend was pretty much in Heaven. This location located inside of Irvine Spectrum seems like a busy location. When you first walk in, there are 4 order stations/kiosks to the left and a counter to the front with 2 registers. When you order from the kiosks, you enter a card number and when your order is ready, an employee brings your order to you. This is a great feature to have. They have many tables availabe for dining inside as well as outside on both sides of the main entrance. The employees were friendly. You are able to ask for a drink refill which is also great, as other locations that I have been to have a self serve fountain drink area. We ordered: 1. Shack Stack (Cheeseburger with Stuffed Mishroom) 2. Shack Stack with Bacon & Onion 3. Plain Fries 4. Chicken Nuggets As usual, everything was delicious. The Shack Stack is scrumptious and the beef patty had a little char and crisp. The cheese in the portobello mushroom oozes out when you take a bite and all of the goodness just melts in your mouth. The crinkle fries have the perfect crisp and the nuggets as well. They are a little on the salty side for me but I can see why people would like their chicken sandwiches. Tried the truffle mushroom burger. It was nice to see a vegetarian option at Shake Shack but unfortunately this burger I was not a fan of. The mushroom itself was fine and fried okay, but the sheer amount of cheese inside was overwhelming and borderline nauseating. Every bite of the mushroom I took, the cheese ooozed out making it hard to eat the burger at all and the only taste was plastic-y cheese. Really disappointing experience at Shake Shack. My friend placed an online order, but when she went to pick it up, they said they didn't have it. I ordered myself and waited about 20 minutes, only to find a black hair in my food (I'm blonde, so it definitely wasn't mine). When I told the staff, they looked at me like I was lying instead of handling it professionally. The manager didn't seem to take it seriously, and another employee got blamed unfairly. They remade my food, but it came with mayonnaise I which I'm allergic to so I had to throw it away. The place was also extremely crowded and uncomfortable. read more
