This is the best hamburger in London. If you really love hamburgers, this is it. I got a cheeseburger with crispy shallots. That's it. It was perfect. No sauce or goofy toppings. The bun was fluffy and meat to bun ratio is wonderful. We've been on a mini quest and if we found this first, it might have been dinner every evening. He won't like to hear this, but I think Gordon Ramsey should try this next to his cheeseburger. You won't be happy, Gordon. Shake Shack has this completely figured out. The decor is different, and at the Shake Shack we had to stand in line and order at a counter - but the food is similar. Quality milk shakes (hence the name), frozen custard 'concrete mixers' (think DQ blizzard), fries w or w/out cheese - check. Fair to low prices in a high-dollar area - surprising check. The low prices keep it hopping at meal times; you may have to fight for a ground floor seat. (Or go upstairs.) Food served quickly? Not so much. This is fast-food, served on a school lunch tray, but it took almost 20 minutes to get our food. I don't mind a lengthy wait if I am sitting at a comfy table w a drink in my hand - but it feels long sitting in the crowd waiting empty-handed - longing for my drink and food. I visited SS, purely to try their limited black truffle menu. I was pleasantly surprised and it was much better than I had expected. I loved the burger, although I got my hands covered in sauce, so make sure that you have plenty of napkins! The chips, also truffle were delicious. I was really impressed. What let it down was the atmosphere. We hadn't been allowed to go upstairs in the restaurant until a table had been identified as free (new covid rules), however shortly after being seated a group of 12 teenagers came and sat around a table next to me. I felt most uncomfortable and staff were aware as one of their employees had lifted and carried another table to put with the two already there, in order to create one large table to accommodate all of the teenagers. As such, I didn't feel like hanging round long so ate up quickly and left. It was the closest I have been to people all year! Another negative was the price, I didn't think it was value for money at just under £16 for a burger, fries and a drink, of fairly small proportion. Much like Five Guys, which I also feel is extremely overpriced. The truffle menu was really tasty and I am very glad I tried it but to be honest, if looking for a meal of fast food, for value I would probably stick to McDonald's. read more

Finally managed to eat at the Shake Shack which had taken mythical proportions in my mind. Ironically, I live in San Francisco and got to try it for the first time in London. Maybe the expectations were too high but I thought it was just OK. I got the Shackburger and Jelly's Last Donut which was Vanilla custard, Doughnut Plant donuts, strawberry preserves and cinnamon sugar for dessert. The burger was solid but dessert was very disappointing. The picture looked way better than the final outcome which is almost always true. It's been awhile since I had a burger experience quite like this one. The only thing I didn't like about it was the steep price, £17 for a fast food meal for one. Times have changed. That being said, it was well worth it. Their shakes are supreme, thick and creamy. I added malt to mine for extra flavour. So good. I don't normally like crinkle cut fries but these were cooked well, slightly crunchy and went down easy with cheesy! Can't go wrong there. The crown jewel was the Shack Stack burger - a regular beef burger topped with a fried mushroom burger with oozing cheese in every bite! I loved it so much I could easily have a straight mushroom burger next time. The bun is fluffy and held together well. This was a spectacular meal. The meat looked good, but the load of grease pooled underneath was shocking. First of all, I'm a huge lover of Shake Shack. I absolutely love the Shack Burgers, the crinkle cut fries, the shakes and the concretes. I came here at 9ish on a Saturday night and only stood in a small line, which is shocking. My friend and I only wanted ice cream so we both ordered the Leicester^2 concrete that had chocolate custard, chocolate hazelnut brownies and peanut butter sauce. Oh my god was it good. Same experience, same taste as the US Shake Shacks I've visited, but the burger consistency is different. My experience in the US is thin burgers that have a definite and delicious sear/caramelization to them. The burger today at the Leicester Square location was a properly cooked thicker burger, was a bit chewey (cause it was thicker), but it was missing that characteristic sear/caramelization, it tasted just like I expected, but I really missed that crispy sear, which I think is mandatory on a ShackBurger. It was a good breakfast non the less and I'll keep searching out the perfect burger. read more

Enter Shake Shack Leicester Square, so close I can practically see it from my flat (if not for all the incessant construction/cranes). Enter sadness. Sunday afternoon, waifu decided that now was the time to hit 'go' on a decent shake and off she went, around 2pm on Sunday, at nobody's idea of a rush time, for two (2) milkshakes. She returned after having waited for over 25 minutes for two (2) milkshakes--'concretes', to be precise, which is basically like a McFlurry only 5x the price--furious and disillusioned. Apparently at least two tables near where she was waiting had been waiting for over 45min for a couple of burgers each. Staff? Disinterested, dismissive, and moving with the speed of... concrete? Seriously, nobody expects anyone in the service industry to maintain the American standard of toothy smile and hyper-enthusiasm. You do you, but if it takes you over a minute to amble between a till and the counter? What, precisely, is management doing? Where, in fact, WAS management? Basically, the classic case of Never Again. As for the 'concretes'? Yeah, they were ok. Imagine a McFlurry made with actual ice cream instead of sludge, but could you taste the individual flavour profiles? Were the textures exceptional? No, not at all. In all honesty, take yourselves over to Gelupo (just up and over!) instead. No, you won't get a burger, but you can get great (really!) gelato, they can give you a biscuit to break into it, they do milkshakes, and they do it all in a couple minutes rather than an eternity of rage. read more

Shake shack has just blown up in the last few years. They are open late especially in weekends. The lines arent typically very long but expect to wait 5-10 minutes for your food.
