Cookies and cream

When I used to be in northeast, Shake Shack used to be a staple. I was pleasantly surprised to find one in Hilldale. As usual, chicken shack was my favorite item from here. Truffle shake stack was an excellent twist on shake stack burger. I had some chicken bites as well. Cookies and creams shake was thick and creamy.

Yikes. My daughter and I decided to stop because we were in Madison dropping my son off at the university. Neither of us had ever been to Shake shack. I placed my order online ahead of time. We parked and walked over and found a seat. My order was ready about three minutes later, I grabbed the order and we sat down to eat. Immediately, after we sat down to eat a family of three walked in with their dog. They ordered their food and decided to sit at the table right next to us. Dogs are not allowed in restaurants unless they are a service animal, and as you can see from the photos attached this is not a service animal. About 3 to 4 minutes later another couple walked in with their dog. once again dogs are not allowed in restaurants unless they are a service animal. Not only that, am I fearful of dogs, having been bit in the past. our food was another issue. My daughter is a selective eater so she got the grilled cheese. She literally ate three bites and threw the rest away. She said it was cold and just did not taste good. I ordered a chicken sandwich which was very fresh hot and made properly. We also ordered the spicy fries with ranch and they were lukewarm at best. My daughter also had a sprite which she said was the best part of her meal, sadly. The restaurant itself was relatively clean, staff we did not interact with as I ordered online and my order was placed on a shelf when complete. There is a very nice outdoor patio, which is where the dogs should have been......

Finally went to this location. I've heard lots of great things about Shake shack. There was quite a wait. We did come during the peak lunch hour on a Saturday. The staff was awesome super friendly and helpful. The size of the location is a bit small, people were circling like vultures trying to find a table. We were able to find a spot and enjoy our meal. The burgers were great. The buns in particular are super soft and tasty. One thing that was great about getting this fast food is that you could have beer or wine with your meal. That is always a nice treat to have. We will be back.

Dreamsicle milkshake

Ordered a ShackBurger, fries, and new dreamsicle and tiramisu milkshakes for pickup. I grabbed the food and did a quick review to make sure I had everything and noticed the dreamsicle milkshake wasn't filled up completely which was disappointing. Most places it wouldn't bother me, but their shakes cost $6.50 each which I consider a premium price. If I spend $6.50 on a shake, I at least expect it to be full. I understand it is with frozen custard, but Kopp's in Milwaukee also makes shakes with frozen custard for about a dollar less and they serve you a full cup in bigger size. Their burger and fries are ok. Not my favorite in town, but decent. The staff are friendly as well. I just feel you don't get what you expect for their prices.

Ok how did they jump from a 2 star to 4 star 1. That shroom stack works. Officially called "Shack Stack." 2. Quality meat. 3. Toasted bun. 4. There's a check box for the various allergens but never noticed if it shows in the store on the menu board. 5. Basic hamburger 6. They finally stopped allowing guests to reach and get condiments. Gloves staff hands it over. This matters as mustard and ketchup are on the table. 7. Will return to try the beef dog & thinking the toasted bun will make it pop. What doesn't work: 1. No other cheese options. Just American cheese 2. The app doesn't allow you to remove cheese 3. The app doesn't take their gift card 4. Their shakes are made with custard which has egg. I know this will excite many but I'm not a custard human. 5. Condiment packages. I guess their ketchup is name brand but it's not one I'm familiar with. I want to see the dipping packages like CFA & other overpriced places have in stock. Overall, I must give a shout out or kudos to the manager for being open to the feedback and explaining how a few things are not working for this location because they are new. Apparently this location didn't show in the app for a while. At any rate, it's not my forte for the lack of seasoning but I trust my mother would love it due to such and the toasted bun being hot while all the toppings are cool. She detests when folks toast that bun then let it go cold while cooking the meat. This place avoids such and for that plus the reasons above... The score increased from 2 to 4.

Hurray! Shake Shack has finally arrived in Madison at Hilldale Mall. I recommend using their app in order to schedule your food pickup in advance. I scheduled an 11:30am pickup at around 8:30 am. Parking is a bit tight, so plan accordingly. Plus there is not a drive-through option. Since it was my first order pickup, I followed the texted directions to enter the restaurant and give my name at the counter. But instead, a helpful employee just inside the entrance told me to walk straight through into the outside seating area where an employee will bring out my order. I wonder if next time I could simply hang out near the outside patio and avoid walking through the restaurant all together My (picky) husband really enjoyed his cheeseburger. I tried the 'Shroom Burger because it looked interesting. It's a large cheese-filled portobello mushroom that is crumb-coated and fried. It was yummy. We also ordered one shake each: pumpkin (seasonal) and a cookies-and-cream. Both were great, but they needed wider straws. We shared one order of fries....which were in-credible! Loved them.

Love love love shake shack!! My absolute favorite burger, perfect size and flavor, not too heavy! The fries are always hot and fresh at this location and the workers are always friendly! Food usually takes about 10 minutes or less and is always fresh and hot. Love the clean and comfortable atmosphere as well!

Ordered lunch at a nearby restaurant and saw that Shake Shack got new shakes: tiramisu and dreamsicle. Both are my favorites. Decided to get both and they tasted creamy and thick! Over $6 each but the quality is good when compared with Chick-fil-A, Arby's.

The not rare, but raw second burger I was given to replace the raw burger I originally was served.

Hated the shake shack at Hildale Mall first time around. I think for good reason. Screwing up a burger, returning to request a resolution. Return home to discover the same raw meat in the replacement. So a couple weeks ago my wife and son are on a tear and can't survive the night without red meat, and ask me what or if I may like to order. First thought was absolute not gonna do it. Fool me once, fool me twice... you've likely heard the expression. But upon rethinking my options: making a trip myself, because neither of these familial loved ones will even consider, the possibility of getting dad/husband something such as Jimmy Johns which would require two additional minutes. JJs is literally 3 minutes from our house, where Shake Shack is 20 each way! If I hadn't already been busy doing something in the first place, I'd already be on top of things and in the kitchen preparing something for dinner. But I was busy doing something that likely was little more than hiding in the garage from being roped into sweeping dust bunnies from the furnace closest or worse. So I caved. I'll be damned, yessiree I'll probably find that my words often are as valid as the effort I might put into them when I stop to write something favorable or negative about someplace I loved or didn't. I found that this time around I was either really hungry or the burger I received this time around was simply a reason this chain burger factory can sustain amidst countless others selling the exact same thing! The burger was spot on. Bacon crisp as were the lettuce and tomato. The fries were so good I even recall eating the cold ones in the bag and perhaps even a couple I beat the dog to off the floor! As Jules in Pulp Fiction said to great aplaum: "Now that's a tasty burger!" I've been converted perhaps.

For the goods!

Got a Shake Shack fan right here! The long awaited for Shake Shack is here in Madison and it's 300th one at that! I no longer have to drive to Milwaukee to satisfy my cravings which is amazing. The space is great with floor to ceiling windows for lots of light but ample space for outdoor seating either at Shake Shack or in the surrounding Hilldale area if you want more social distancing. You are preorder your order for pick via the app only currently (not on website). Use the code SHACKFAM for 20% off your first order. After you order they have a table with a staff member waiting for you to pick up (at your specified time). Very clean, simple process. You can also go in to order where they are 6ft apart marker stickers to stand by. Appreciate all the adherence to social distancing guidelines. Now onto the food, fast food time, but not fast food burger. The burger was juicy, lots of fresh veggies (get all the extras) and you have a side of ranch. I got the single shack with a lettuce wrap (no bun) and they successfully put enough lettuce around so that whenever I took a bite, it wasn't falling apart. Woot woot! I also ordered the pumpkin shake which has a nice flavor of pumpkin but definitely on the sweet side. I love the pumpkin seeds on top and was spooning those out with my straw afterwards. Lastly, I order the cheese fries with FIRE seasoning. The crinkle fries were good, this shape really grabs the cheese sauce well. The cheese sauce was so/so. They separate it for pickup which is nice but definitely solidified by my pick up time, leaving the ooey gooeyness ness for my imagination. The seasoning was hot as well, but not fire IMO (I have a high spice level). Dry seasoning can be a little all over the place sometimes too. Overall, will 100% be back. My friends got the chicken sandwich and the portabella mushroom stack with good praises too!

I wish I could give zero star. This is not the first time I'm unsatisfied with them. I LOVE Shake Shack but somehow this branch always disappoints me. You charge $2.99 + tax for a hall full fries order? The quality is not even good. I complained to the customer service department directly but no answer so far. I've fooled myself going back, hoping they would provide better food. Every time getting more and more disappointed. I wish I can get a refund.

Mia G.

I don't eat a lot of fast food but when I do I like this place. It's always very clean inside. Self checkout is nice and easy. Food usually takes a bit (7-10 mins) but for fast food I think that's a good thing. Solid burger and fries.

Smashburgers done right! I am extremely happy to report that Settle Down Tavern perfected their…read morecraft, rather than just blindly jumping on the trend for the sake of saying it's on the menu. Settle Down has patties that are smashed to a lacy, crisp, well-browned perfection. Points also given for high quality beef that is well-seasoned. Both times, I ordered a Good Idea (a great idea, if you ask me). A simpler combination of meat, cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and sauce. Everything goes together fantastically and stays in perfect balance. I happily devoured it both times, and would have asked for a second if I was feeling especially ravenous. That said, for me, one burger is enough to no longer be hungry, but also won't make me chock-full. Another thing at Settle Down I enjoy is the different varieties of pickled goodies. These all taste fresh and house-made, with that little bit of magic touch not found in commercially manufactured items of the same name. The chocolate chip cookie also should not be slept on: it is warm, wonderfully chocolatey without going overboard, and had that little sprinkle of salt that elevates it to the next level. Outside of food, I was able to try some of their non-alcoholic beverages, and both times they were a hit. They are tasty, interesting and unique (celery lemonade, anyone?) Love that they aren't necessarily sugar bombs, nor do they use Ritual brand n/a spirits that taste like industrial de-greaser. The service here is very good. Staff is friendly and fairly attentive. On my second visit they were absolutely slammed and shorthanded, but still working as fast as possible to get everyone fed. Finally, there is the question of value. Given the price of everything, and the quality of the product, I feel that Settle Down Tavern delivers an excellent value. It may not be quite as cheap as fast food, but a massive upgrade for a few more dollars. Final verdict: Among many flops, Settle Down is one of two smashburgers I've had that were done right. This, combined with great service and value leads to a winning proposition.

From start to end, we could not have asked for a better experience! The interior was super cute and gave Golden Girls vibes. They didn't take reservations, so most times you can expect a wait. We waited an hour but didn't mind, as we simply hung out at the fantastic cocktail bar upstairs (looking at you, The Perch!). They specialize in small plates, so I recommend coming hungry with a group so you can try as many dishes as possible. We split the biscuit, cauliflower, charred cabbage, calamarata, rigatoni, mortadella pizzetta, and Berkshire pork chops. All of the plates arrived as they were ready, so everything was very fresh. The biscuit was super buttery and an absolute must-order! I loved the unique sweet and savory combination from the garlic butter and honey. The cauliflower had a savory sauce that was perfectly rounded out by sweet raisins and crispy cheese. The cabbage was slightly crispy and served atop a smoky, creamy dip that reminded me of muhamarra. I would highly recommend both! Next, we tried the pizzetta, which had a thin, crispy Neapolitan style crust that made the dish not too heavy. With high quality mortadella contrasted by a honey drizzle and crunchy pistachios, this was truly an ideal pizza for me. The tomato sauce was one of the most flavorful I've had in awhile. The rigatoni was well cooked and liked, but given the stardom of the other dishes, fell a bit flat comparatively. The only miss for us was the calamarata pasta. It was extremely briny from the minced olives and had a super sharp cheese in the sauce that left a very strong, unpleasant aftertaste. I think this would take a specific palette to enjoy. It wasn't enough to ruin the meal for us overall, though, since everything else was amazing. We rounded out the meal with the pork chops and frites, which was decidedly the highlight. The pork was among the most tender I've ever had, and was perfectly complemented by a flavorful cherry sauce that didn't overwhelm the meat. The fries were also super crispy and addictive. We left absolutely stuffed and in high spirits, unanimously deciding that this was one of the best meals we've had in recent history. I highly recommend paying a visit and would absolutely return next time I'm in Madison!
