It was only recently that I decided to try Shake Shack food! The first time I ordered the chicken sandwich it was tender and most delicious. The next time I ordered the chicken sandwich it was a big disappointment--dry and overcooked. Ages ago I made it a rule to never order hamburgers in a restaurant for fear they are not as safe to eat as other food. However, my friend who introduced me to Shake Shack only orders their cheeseburgers which he raves about. Therefore, I decided to order the single cheeseburger which was scrumptious. I could taste the Angus flavor, which was delightful. Yesterday, I again ordered the single cheeseburger--it was horrible---the worst I have ever tasted. It was chewy as if a filler had been added, whose particles were difficult to chew. I bit on a hard particle and had to remove it from my mouth. I was unable to discern exactly what it was. My next bite also had to be removed from my mouth. At this point, I could not finish my cheeseburger. I asked to speak with the manager, who was very friendly. He offered to replace the hamburger with something else or to give me a refund, which I accepted. He did not recall something like this ever happening before. I took the remaining portion of my cheeseburger home to inspect. Filler particles were definitely added to the hamburger meat, which I could not readily identify. Considering the upscale price of Shake Shack's food, I assumed that the hamburger would be made with pure beef, with no fillers, which doesn't seem to be the case, unless this was an isolated incident. I was hoping to become a very happy and satisfied customer of Shake Shack after my initial very favorable reaction to their food. I am very concerned with the inconsistency of their food and the very negative experience I had after eating part of the unwholesome cheeseburger served to me. Call it a coincidence or not, in the past 24 hours since eating part of the cheeseburger, my intestines have been working overtime, which is a rare occurrence for me. Expected more from this location. Walked in and it was super hot in there like the AC wasn't working. Used the restroom there were cleaning stuff blocking the area but the place didn't seem clean to me. I was able to order without an issue on the iPad, and food served up in timely manner however the burger that I ordered was not cooked as well as I've had at many other SS. I only ate less than half because it just looked questionable to me. Fries were fine, but my strawberry lemonade was warm because they put very little ice in there. My second visit to this Shake Shack and left disappointed again. This time I feel sick after eating there. No cashier was told I have to use the iPad- all of the iPads were filthy with hundreds of finger prints. Food came out timely. I hopped on i95 and took a bite into my chicken nugget to find it was cold as if I came straight out of the refrigerator. Already on the highway so couldn't turn around. Heated the rest up in a microwave and could barely eat them. Something was very off about the taste. Shortly after I felt extremely nauseous and now I have been vomiting all evening. My first visit to this location was a month ago. I was disappointed that when I hopped on the highway I saw they forgot my sauce for my nuggets so had to eat them dry. Visit Date: April 11, 2021 I ended up at this shake shack because I pulled off the parkway to find a bathroom and I figured I'd get a milk shake for lunch here because that's how I roll sometimes and if I'm eating too much probably have a few literal rolls to show it as well. I was on my way to Rhode Island to go hike by myself, I had a mini argument with the guy I'm seeing and thought we might be over, gladly we're not because unless I end up getting fed up with him if and when we end it's going to hurt me deeply. So anyway I was listening to some depressive music, the twilight new moon soundtrack because I thought he had left for his trip. It was his birthday and he had vacation time, I just had one day and a possible night away for a road trip because of working and having to be back to get my son for my custody time. So while I was being all sad he called it turned out he didn't leave for his trip and he was perfectly fine with me still heading to RI but I'm a people pleaser and I wanted to see him so I agreed to turn around and meet him in New Hope, PA for the day. So anyway after all that, that you probably didn't want to read here's how I felt about the shake shack. They were observing stricter COVID precaution so you were allowed in to order and use the bathroom if you needed to and after that you had to wait outside for your order. I'm supposed to be gluten free but I got the strawberry rhubarb shake which may have had some gluten in it, thankfully it didn't make me sick if it did. I have a sensitivity and it will hurt my stomach and make me nauseous if I have gluten. I believe I can have small amounts but too much will hurt me. The shake was pretty good, shake shack always has amazing shakes and food it's one of the few chains that are worth going to. The bathroom was decent too. If you're in Darien, CT for whatever reason shake shack is a good pit stop or meal place option. read more

Shake Shack is undefeated. We stopped at this Shake Shack after a long drive and were so pleased with our choice. The staff was nice and very patient. An associate came over and wiped down our table before we sat down, which was great service. A Chick'n Shack with cheese is my go-to order here. I love how the crispy chicken tastes. The buttermilk herb mayo is one of the best things I've ever tasted. I highly recommend this sandwich if you're in the mood for a burst of juice and flavor. The Double ShackBurger with cheese was delicious. Definitely in the top 3 best burgers I've eaten. The strawberry shake was too thick to drink when I first got it. It provides a solid burger, hot dog (Chicago may be envious), chicken sandwich, and other standard fast food chain menu items. However, with better ingredients and attitude. Food is good but small portions and high prices. Kids love it so there's that. All in all, It's ok , not below or above average. Prices bother me, but they do everywhere nowadays. Absolutely better fast food place than the usual suspects. For that reason I'd recommend. The food is made to order (there is somewhat of a wait) and therefore fresh in my book. Great COVID19 response in terms of cleanliness and social distancing. But the endless cardboards are terrible for the environment. I truly hope they recycle all that. Especially if seating in the restaurant, you don't need disposable cardboards for everything. My main issue is that it is a teeny tiny burger portion size. Especially for the predictably expensive price. So small. You might be more satisfied at McDonald. And the bread could have at least been toasted or something, not just thrown on right out of the bag. Otherwise, ketchup, sauce, and flavor were generally good. The shakes are delicious though and definitely worth it! The seating area inside and out are very nice. For "fast food" there is quite a long wait time for your food to be ready. Really nice ultra modern space with large seating areas both indoor and out. Immaculate as always. Very friendly service and they get your order right. I tried the new spicy chicken sandwich. I didn't find it spicy at all really. And it was really greasy which I found surprising. It was served on their typical Bon with a decent coleslaw and dill pickles. I wouldn't order it again. I always get the chicken dog done Chicago style with extra peppers. Perfect as usual. Fries were awesome. And the portobello burger which is stuffed with cheese was really crunchy & very tasty. Extremely dissatisfied. First off, the place is filthy. The bathroom was even worse. There was pee all over the floor and around the toilets. I presume the brown smudged on the wall tile was poo as well. The counter where you would help yourself to the ketchup, condiments etc was in disarray/dirty. Cheese fries were crisp and fresh but the cheese sauce has a weird spice flavor in the background. Truffle fries were just overpriced fries with Parmesan sprinkled on top. I'm not enthused with 3 stars but 2 stars feels too low. Grabbed lunch from here for the first time ever. Wanted to try a couple of different things in order to review - single cheeseburger and a chicken sandwich, small fries, small shake. Visually everything looked very pleasing. The crinkle cut fries are very crispy and nicely salted however the oil tasted weird/old. Still edible but not great. Did not finish. Burger had pickles on it, a special sauce, lettuce, meat and cheese. I do not eat red meat very often (if ever) so please take this into consideration when I say that the first bite was striking in its greasiness and saltiness. It was over powering. I think my favorite part of the burger was the pickles. Difficult to finish. The (vanilla) milk shake was.... odd. Thick texture with an odd flavor that left me questioning whether or not there was something wrong with the actual ingredients. Took two sips, immediately decided that It wasn't worth it and threw it away. Super bummer. Milkshakes should be easy, right?! Chicken sandwich was surprisingly good. Same Toppings minus secret sauce, chicken was cooked well. Crispy af. Been here a number of times. When it's an off-hour, the food is good and fresh. When it's busy (Friday night or Saturday around lunch or dinner), it's an absolute nightmare. I've had experiences where I pre-ordered on the SS app and I waited for over 30 minutes from the stated pick up time. The last time was this weekend when I waited 45 minutes from the pick up time. Other times I've cancelled. Unfortunately this past weekend, we waited for 45 minutes. Finally got the food. And it was cold. I was asked to wait for food that was waiting to be eaten? At 12:10 I Ordered nuggets, chicken sandwich, fries and a drink for my kids for lunch. I was a little surprised after paying that the wait would be 20 minutes. I begrudged waited at the table. At 12:38 I checked in and was still told food still wasn't ready and to sit tight a few more minutes. It wasn't until 1245 that the food finally came. No sorry for the wait ... nothing. First off, let me say that I can appreciate how difficult it might be operating a food services business and that sometimes you can get behind during a surge. That said, I am disappointed in SS's performance today. No mention before placing the order that their is a bit of a wait. No sorry it took so long. Nothing. Always loved Shake Shack! Today I tried the mushroom burger for the first time & I'm so happy & sad at the same time. Happy because it was DELICIOUS but sad because I'll crave it every day & probably get fat eating it every day... :/ The only thing is, I wish it wasn't like a burger for a small child..... :( Also, I added the herb mayo to it because it lacked some flavor. Tonight was another satisfying meal at Shake Shack. What made it extra special was Andy, who took the time to explain what "malt" was when I asked him. He then made me a mini vanilla shake with malt & without so I could compare the two. Another gentleman who was cleaning up for the night, talked to me about the history of Shake Shack as I asked questions while waiting for the food to be prepared. I also learned there are food trucks that you can book for a private party, which I absolutely will be doing! Visited this store in Darien on a quiet Saturday afternoon and ordered via the self service terminal. The machine told me to wait for a member of staff to verify my age. I waited 5 mins while the staff chatted amongst themselves and eventually I approached them to ask who's coming to verify my age. They told me you have to order at the cashier and not the terminal when adding alcohol to the bill, completely dismissing the issue. DO NOT USE THE SELF SERVE TERMINAL WHEN ORDERING ALCOHOL. My wife thought hers was a bit undercooked but I ate the pink part and it was fine! I actually opted for a shake for dinner. Don't judge me; it was great. It's really a 2 and a half stars because I think the hotdogs were darn good.. But lately I can't figure out what happened at the Darien location. Up until six months ago I had never been to a shake shack at all. Then I went into the one at LaGuardia airport. I thought the hamburger was excellent and I didn't really pay attention to what I paid for it. If I'm happy with the food and reasonably happy with the service I will rarely check the price. So I started coming to the one in Darien Connecticut 4 or 5 months ago.. here again I thought the burgers were excellent. And that distracted me from ever looking at the price again, because I was very happy with the food quality and flavor But I would say in the last month or so the flavor of the hamburgers and the quality has taken a nosedive. Over the last four times that I've been here the hamburgers have ranged from barely cooked to reasonably cooked. The flavor has been nonexistent. For whatever reason they are not warm to the touch. The bun has been cold. And the shack sauce is as thick as hardly melted cheese. Prior to the last month or so there was a really great guy at the register that was more than happy to take your order. The food always came out hot, fresh, tasty and there had been very little chit chat between the employees behind the counter other than work related stuff.. now it seems like the people that greet you at the register don't really care that you're there, the food is mediocre at best, and the bull crap among the employees takes precedence over getting an order and a meal done well. like I said I can't figure out what's going wrong at this location but something has changed. Usually when I see this sort of thing it's a management issue. Either a manager is not in the location long enough, or often enough, or in control enough. So now of course because I am not impressed with the food I start to notice the price. At minimum you're close to $15 per head to get a meal whether it's a burger, fries and a $6 shake or a burger and a hot dog and a soft drink of some sort... To me that's just too much money for a fast food burger meal when it's not that much different and not even as good as their major competitors. read more

The 'shroom burger is delicious!! It's a fried mushroom stuffed with cheese! You bite into it and the cheese spills out and it is so much goodness and yumminess. I almost wish it was bigger but at the same time its the right size. Think little bigger than a Hawaiian roll by 0.5-inch. The fries are pretty tasty and crispy. The guy behind the counter totally under sold the 'shroom burger ‍ goes great with vino. The shack burger wasn't anything to write home about. The coffee milkshake was rich with a balanced coffee flavor & vanilla flavor. The half & half lemonade/ice tea did not have a good balanced ice tea to lemonade ratio. read more
