On several occasions, while visiting the Danbury CT location I've witnessed the staff behave like degenerates. They never change their gloves, ever! This is highly unsanitary, as they are preparing and touching different food orders and also wiping sweat off their faces all day. Today, while stopping to grab lunch for my daughter, I witnessed a young lady who was cooking behind the line, spitting rap lyrics while holding her gloved hand to her face. She then proceeded to stick her tongue out inches from the hand she was preparing food with! I asked the gentlemen, who took our order to have the staff change their gloves! My child can do without a 10 dollar drool & spit cheeseburger, thanks! I've contacted the Danbury Department of Health to do some frequent checks at this location! This isn't the first issue I have had at this location. The store is dirty, my husband almost broke a tooth when a screw was found in his fries because a service company was working on the fryer while food was being prepared. I hear this franchise is good, and so I tried it. My chocolate malt was indeed good, but it was soured by the surly service. The person taking my order was grumpy and curt, and clearly didn't want to be there. Even worse, she hated me being there! For a $7.50 shake, I'd at least expect a modicum of curtesy - a smile or thank you as a minimum. The place seemed clean and I liked the decor, and I know that one employee shouldn't sully a whole business. Don't like how you order the food there's nobody there to help you so I made a mistake and I didn't know you can add things on your burger so I got a plain burger but the burger was good. It's real meat made in real time the fries and cheese with bacon is good just not enough cheese was all clumped in the middle of it should've been spread out along the whole thing. Came here on a Friday for a late lunch and the space was decently busy, but they have kiosks to place your order so it made the process relatively easy and wait free. They text you once your order is ready as well, but the timing could definitely be worked on I think. I got my text before my order was ready to be handed off, so I was loitering around the pickup counter anyway when no one was there and even when someone did come, they had to go to the back to grab my food. The text was definitely misleading. They didn't have any ketchup at their stations either and it didn't look like anyone cared when I told them about it. They just proceeded to get me some ketchup packets and that was pretty much it. They didn't seem too busy in the back as many workers were standing around not doing much, but perhaps there's more to the story than what I saw. Overall, the experience was mediocre I'd say with decent food. I enjoyed my burger and my fries, the latter being super crispy which I enjoyed. Well, I've never seen a business run like this. We waited in a long line, two of the ordering kiosks were out of service. One of the employees was also taking orders. We waited in that line and saw people going around the other side and pretending they were next. The employee would just take them, Not even paying attention to Who was next in line. . We even commented that the line was "over here" and "we were next." I'm not saying that the employees don't work hard, but they definitely don't pay attention. We ordered a shack burger with no cheese and she asked if we wanted onions and pickles on that. The answer was no on that burger. I then ordered the shack burger and told her I wanted everything on it and we wanted to take the order to go. We had to wait 15 minutes for these two burgers. In the 15 minutes I got to see what was going on behind the scenes. One employee was in charge of making beverages and kept making shakes that sat and sat and melted in the pick up area. Some of them were actually liquefied and looked horrific next to the new ones with the fresh whipped cream. When we got the burgers, they came out on a tray. They were not even wrapped " to go". it stated clearly on the slip they were "to go." So she had to take them back and wrap them. We got to the car and opened the burgers. Thursday at noon went for a treat. Very disappointing. No soda....machine broken? Had to get one of their lemonades and it was awful. Weird soapy taste. Yuck. I got a different one, not much better but not soapy. My husband's burger just ok.. I got chicken bits. They were tender but the coating was on the bottom of the container. Not sticking to chicken. Fries lukewarm. Asked for hot fries and got second order also lukewarm. We went to this location when they opened and it was awesome. Thursday at noon almost empty. I know why now. We stopped here after going to the mall. My husband and son both like coming here. I normally don't eat but I must say I do like the fact that for a fast food place they offer dairy free, gluten free and vegan options. Not many fast food places do. This place allows my family and I to all get fast food when we need a quick bite. That said, our burgers were good, abit greasy but I think it's the style of the meat. Their fries are amazing, it actually tastes like actually fries and not processed potatoes. I had the nondairy chocolate shake and it was amazing, my son had the regular chocolate shake as usual. I will say they take a bit to serve the food once you order so it's not as fast food as you'd like it to be. Also, the restaurant itself could be a little more organized- for example the ketchup counters were all empty. The pick up section had boxes on the shelves... I must say though, everyone was wearing gloves. One of the customers went up to the counter to refill a soda cup and the server automatically advised to please allow him to switch gloves before touching his cup. I was pretty amazed. They got my order wrong, gave me no utensils when I specifically asked, and I sat at the window for 5 minutes waiting for my food that was sitting at the counter. I could've reached in to grab it it was right there, but my he lady with the glasses, bad tattoos, and crusty lips couldn't be bothered to even greet me let alone give me my order on time. Absolutely ridiculous. If I had the ladies name I would've absolutely name dropped her so she would get fired. She was extremely rude and practically threw my food at me through the window. Th older lady with glasses and the mopey face absolutely ruined my day. The bathrooms were filthy too like nobody even took the time to clean them. Really bad food. Everything was overcooked. We ordered a hamburger got a cheeseburger. Ordered the avocado bacon burger. Got a cheeseburger. Ordered chicken it was so overcooked it was almost black. The hot dog was overcooked. Ordered a shake without whip cream. Guess what. It came with whip cream. Clearly whomever is in the kitchen has some type of problem. You can't make that many mistakes. We had no interaction with the staff as they don't even take your order. You have to use a kiosk. There must of been a visual reason. Maybe they did not like how we looked. That's no excuse to blatantly ruin our dinner out with our grandkids. Thinking back I should have returned the entire $58 tray and left. I never return food. And I Especially wouldn't in this case. This review is based on the last several visits over 3 months. Overall the quality of the burgers is above that of the other fast food burger choices. However the chicken sandwiches and fries are worse then what you will get from Chick Fil A, and McDonalds Fries are better. The service? Not the best and some of this is caused by limitations that this location has placed on itself. The drive through and order ahead online seem to be closed. You have to go in and use a kiosk and you are asked in that process to tip. I tip the max because if your going to set this sort of thing up there will always be a question in my mind if my food will be messed with or cooked badly if I do not tip. I am not sure why I am tipping if the only service I get is someone yelling out my name when my food is ready? The wait? I waited around 20 minutes for just 2 sandwiches. There comes a point where its no longer fast food and with this visit it became that. At that point you have to compare it against Longhorn which is next door and it will fail.. that is if your going there at a time when Longhorn is open. Now the price. For two sandwiches (burger and a chicken), no fries, no drink, with max tip, I am spending just over $28.That's 12 bucks higher then McDonald's for the same type of order. So to be honest you could get 2 burgers, chicken tenders, a drink and fries at McDonalds and spend $22. Is the massive price delta worth it at Shake Shack? Only if you want burgers and a shake.. avoid the chicken, avoid the fries. One burger and a Shake would have been around $22ish with tip. Still overpriced but better then the other choices for a Burger and Shake. Sadly it could have been better... with one more staffer manning an open drive through or helping with cooking the wait would not have been 20 minutes. Made an online order on Friday (March 31) at 4:30 to be picked up at 5:30. Site accepted money and payment. When I arrived at 5:30 the place was CLOSED. No explanation given. Tried to call their number, nobody answered, left a message for a manger to call me back ASAP...I'm still waiting. I did get a refund promptly. For a restaurant to be closed on a Friday night is crazy, for the site to accept the order and leave its customers w/o food or options is absurd. I ordered the chicken sandwich which was good taste-wise but small for the price. I would swear the sandwich was larger when they first opened. I specifically had such high hopes for this establishment rather than going to Applebee's for a burger. Well... I asked for a med rare cheddar cheeseburger. The response I received was " this establishment doesn't have cheddar cheese" but the gentleman behind the counter gave me a scan qr code to request cheddar cheese at this establishment! The kiosk was closed by 4:30 (granted a new establishment has it's kinks but the drive up was also closed). Now for my burger... the same older gentleman asks the cooks for med rate & that the burger would be pink-inside the cooks assured him "it would be pink on the inside" as I could hear the cooks's reply. Not only was the burger not pink but it looked like the burger was cut in half & burned on one side & didn't cook the other side! Horrible/slow service, our food took forever to come out and when it did it was disappointing. Spent $73 for 4 burgers, fries and drinks which sounds ridiculous. When we got the food there was a 1/3 of a lettuce on the burger, bun was soaked with grease and flat, burgers looked more like sliders from how tiny they were, fries were not cooked right and some were soggy, the one milkshake we got was half way fill. Table was dirty, no ketchup left in the containers. Let's just say we'll never be back. The one guy that came to ask if there was something wrong with my order ended up getting the manager to give a refund just told her I didn't like the food even tho I told him everything that was wrong with my order. Eventually the manager came to give me the refund and another employee kept looking at me, at the food, and back to another employee clearly taking about me, I didn't engage because now on days you end up on social media for anything and I was already getting my refund so no point on saying anything else.
