So was it worth the 20 min wait in line? Only if the Mets are losing 14 to 1 in the 8th inning and you have nothing better to do, as in my situation. The Shack burger was okay, not the best I've had but being from Texas, I am quite picky with my beef. The bread is amazing! The texture pairs well with the well seasoned lean beef. The patty is thin enough to absorb the seasonings and the edges are crispy for the added crunch on the first bite. We got 2 shakes, the black and white shake (basically chocolate) and Vanilla shake. These are very custardy and sweet, not the best shakes to go with burgers but amazing by themselves or with frites. The price is outrageous, as stated by some of the other reviewers, but with a 20 min line, who's gonna change their mind? Overall, not bad, but don't know what the rave is all about. read more

For a fast food burger - the gold standard. Incredibly juicy and flavorful, very fresh, wonderful brioche bun. Expensive, yes, but everything is at CitiField. Their vanilla shake is to die for, as is the frozen custard (SOOO much better than Carvels'). Fries are ok - but I actually prefer Nathan's. Lines are ridiculous - as others have said, get there way early before the game, or accept it that you'll miss a couple innings (watch them on the projection screen behind the scoreboard while you're waiting). Skip the Shackago Dog - this is NYC, we don't need all that crap on a frank, certainly not celery salt (what the...!!!). Go directly to the burger and a shake, and you'll be a very, very happy camper! Now, they really REALLY need to open a second location at the ballpark, as they wisely did with Blue Smoke - what on earth is wrong with the facility and restaurant management, can't they SEE that? Damn fine little burger. Apparently, from a local, I just had to have one of these because they're the bom-dot-com-bomb-diggity. Super small, and a little greasy quite frankly. But the special "shake" sauce and potato bun make it worthwhile. I didn't think my black and white/can't we all just get along/unity milkshake was all that. I love Shake Shack because they have the best burger and fries I have ever eaten in my life. All the burgers and fries are made fresh and are not processed. Their handspun milkshakes are also the best. This really adds to the CitiField experience of watching a Mets game. The major drawback is waiting at least an hour, about 1 or 2 innings to finally get your food. Hopefully, they can implement a system to make the lines go quicker. I like to have a burger from Shake Shack every once in a while, and if the Mets happen to be playing a home game when I get a craving, then I'll head here to Citi Field and try to get some cheap promenade tickets last minute so I can enter the stadium to get in line for some Shake Shack!! Sometimes this is more convenient than going to Manhattan or Long Island for another Shake Shack location, or cheaper than going to the other Queens Shake Shack (since that one is in JFK and you'd have to buy a plane ticket). They've got TVs everywhere so you can watch the Mets play an inning or two (or three) while you wait in line to order your burger. It's a bit pricier here, and occasionally the burger patty has been greasier than normal, but the staff is trying to get you your burger fast so you can go watch the baseball game you paid to see, right? read more

They have a big TV screen in the area and a live audio feed of the game, which should be enough for all but the most die hard fans as long as it's not a big spot. There are two lines--it seemed like maybe the rightmost one was a little shorter and maybe even moved a little faster when I was there. The food is the same quality as the Madison Square Park Shake Shack, though the presentation is a lot more rushed and there's a decent chance it sat under a heat lamp for a minute or two. The cheeseburgers are amazing, and for me the real draw. The fries are run-of-the-mill. The black and white milkshake I had was good, but between that and two cheeseburgers it was all so filling I couldn't finish. The Mets version also sells Pepsi fountain sodas. read more

Was in town recently, and I decided to go to a Mets game with some friends. We waited over 45 minutes in line for Shake Shack, after hearing that this was the In N Out of the East Coast. The line moved briskly, and sure enough I finally got my double shack with fries and a chocolate shake. The fries were very salty and served Nathan's style, but nonetheless tasty. They were good, but I would not order them again. As for the main event, the burger, it was dry, overcooked, and the cheese did not blend well with the meat at all. I've had better at my local Burger King. It was bland, at best, as the meat was so dry and overcooked. It just tasted like it was missing something. And finally, the shake, very rich and distinct flavor. It wasn't bad, but it was not great either. It was way too sweet and rich (chocolate) to be considered great. I'd get the Chocolate-Vanilla mix if I returned here again, probably not as strong in flavor. Overall, it was not at all worth the 45 minute wait. Lots of hype, to no avail. No Shake Shack will get less than a 4 star from me. The place is just heavenly. That said, the menu at the Citi Field Shack is a lot smaller than the others and while it was still excellent, it wasn't as good as the other Shack I've tried. Now you know we're talking quality. The line is absurdly long, but honestly if you are coming here to eat SS you know about the waits already. Best tip I can give? This past June was my first trip ever to NYC (I know, it took me long enough). I went to a Mets game. I waited in a 20 minute line for a burger that I would give a grade of B-. IMHO, In & Out is far superior. But the thing that won me over is the fries. They're crinkle cut which creates more surface area when fried making them more crunchy. Aaaand you can get them topped with American cheese. That right there is why this country is so awesome. Crunchy fries combined with the cheese, it's pure fatty Mcfatty bliss. Who knew that trekking all the way into the boonies to see a Mets-Phillies game would be topped off with a SHAKE SHACK burger? YUM! The Shake Shack line appears crazy, with hoards of hungry people all packed in front of the stand, but the queue actually moves much faster than the original Madison Square Park one. Advantage: They have all the food ready to go so there's no waiting with a buzzer AND they have 6-8 cashiers rather than 2. Disadvantage: The prices are even higher than those in Manhattan... a shack burger (single) + fries + strawberry shake = $18. I think it would've been like $12 otherwise. Of course the biggest draw of this particular Shake Shack is its location. Being able to watch a Mets game while eating a Shackburger and cheese fries, what's not to like? Well for starters, that line is pretty damn painful. I mean, at any location you've learned to expect a wait, this is like that wait times 10. Luckily I went there early so I wasn't in a huge hurry, but still. Second, this location has a very limited menu. Just burgers, shakes, hot dogs, and fries. Makes sense, as they don't have the space or the time to be cranking out too many items. Third, it's also more expensive at this location, but to fair, so is every other food stand. Most importantly, the burgers and fries are just as good as any Shake Shack location, which means the positives outweigh the negatives. read more

I guess ya gotta brave the lines and go here earlier in the game if you want decent food. Shake shack is a 5/5 however this outlet location located inside of citified isn't s 5 because they do not have the same variety as a regular shake shake. The workers here as sweet as can be but the fact that they only have 3 shake flavored isn't that good because at a regular shake shack my favorite shake is the peanut butter one read more

So I went to Citifield last night and decided to see what all the fuss was about at Shake Shack. Of course, there's always a line and my wait was 35 minutes. I ordered two single Shake Burgers, fries, and a vanilla and black and white shake for me and my son. I asked for onions and they gave me a small cup on the side. The burgers were over-salted and were just meh! The fries were practically inedible and were also over-salted. Nothing compares to Nathan's fries. But the shakes were decent, although at $6.25 each for a medium to small-sized shake, they could have given a larger serving. So was it really worth the wait and the price ($30.50 for the entire order), I would have to say NO! You're probably better off at Blue Smoke or the Tacquiera, or even Nathan's for that matter. Damn. This was a tasty burger. I was turned away by out-the-door, around-the-corner line at the UWS location just last weekend, so I was committed to making a Shake Shake burger a part of my first game at the new Citi Field. The menu is pretty bar bones: cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, hot dog, fries, shakes, beer. It is a smart choice, as it allows them to assembly line those burgers rather than cooking to order, and makes the long line move quickly. There will still be a considerable wait (even an hour before the game), but you get handed a fresh and hot burger as soon as you place your order. Props to the concessions worker for churning out such high quality product in a rapid fashion. The prices were more reasonable than I expected ($5.75 for a single, $8.75 for a double, beers for $5.00 or $6.25, although the shakes were more than the burgers!!!). Slightly expensive, but not the obscene brand of ballpark expensive I was expecting. I am not a fry person, so I stuck to the burger and a beer, and was very happy with that decision. I stole a fry from a friend, and it was pretty standard (boring). The burger, on the other hand, was superb, even with American cheese, which I usually avoid at all costs. It was so juicy and yummy, with crisp lettuce and ripe tomatoes, and WOW that special sauce is good. I could have done with a double, but I had room for ice cream later, so all was well. The Shake Shack location at Citi Field is pretty good but a few things deterred me from giving a 4 star to Shake Shack. Lets talk about the food first. The Shack Burger is decent but I found it to be over greasy and felt cooked with haste. My bun was flat and was soggy as well. I attributed it to the fact that we were at Citi Field but that shouldn't be an excuse. The only thing I will add is that the shack sauce is pretty good. The big problem here is the line. There are two different lines but it takes forever! I waited two innings for a burger at a non sold out game. In the future if the line is long, I will not wait for a shack burger. It is totally not worth the wait. BTW if there is a slight chance the weather will be bad, Citi Field will shut down the food stands where Shake Shack is. They do not care how long you have waited in line. read more

Imagine you took a Shake Shack, placed it in the middle of Citi Field behind center field, stripped the menu of most of their popular items, and then jacked up the prices. Then you'd have Shake Shack Citi Field. I can't blame them for increasing the prices since it's a ballpark and we're all used to it (beers are $9 a bottle...). The lines I can't fault them either. But if you show up early enough, you can get to the front within 20 minutes. There are also two separate lines, which is nice. I also can't fault them for having a limited menu, since it would be a hassle to make more than just the basics. But they should at least have a special Citi Field burger. As it stands, you can get a regular/double Shackburger, Shack Stack, or the shroom burger. They also have the regular hot dog and the chicken dog. That's about it. My Shack Stack took forever because they didn't have the mushrooms ready, which was lame. Other than that, it's a fine Shake Shack experience, better than the worst, but not better than the best. read more

If you can catch it at a time when the line is 10 minutes or less, go for it. Otherwise I'd say to go to next door Blue Smoke or one of stadium clubs if you have access.
