This place has been around forever and as a former Manatee High School student it gets at least one star for intense nostalgia factor. Just stopped for the shakes since the reviews were so good. Give me a break. A real shake starts with hand scooped ice cream not ice cream out of a soft serve machine. Burgers were amazing fresh and made to order, multiple shake options, they were what you would expect a little to thick for my taste had to eat it with a spoon. Staff was friendly for the most part except for the lady that took our order she became annoyed that we asked what came on the burgers as this was our first time there. She became affronted when we asked for no onion she also didn't inform us of mayo but luckily there was hardly any on it to notice. Definitely recommend trying them though. read more

I wanted a burger and it definitely satisfied my cravings. I ordered a cheeseburger with grilled onions and added bacon on it. It was a perfect size for me. If i didn't order fries then I would still leave the place hungry. Its a small joint where you order your food first and then sit down. They call your name when your food is ready. There's a good amount of tables there so it shouldn't be a problem finding a place to sit. Preferably, I still like Stuffed Belly better. read more

Went here because of all the hype I hear about its shakes, did not disappoint, I got the peanut butter one, and it was perfect! Also got a hot dog that was very good, although a little overpriced. The staff was nice and friendly but could use more smiles in front of customers. I definitely can't complain about the atmosphere because it has that older setting and style which I liked, what I did not enjoy is sitting inside and the cramped space of it, and I can't blame the business for it but people were very selfish with the seats. For the the future I'll probably just pick up and go rather than sit there and dine. If it wasn't for the great food I would give it a 3 read more

I love this place, I've been going there since I was a kid. The staff is always friendly. The owner is fantastic, once she overheard my cousin say the shake wasn't to flavorful, and had her server remake it. If you go inside and talk to the staff you'll always have a great time. First let me say...i cannot believe anyone could possibly have anything bad to say about anything having to do with the Shake Pit...they have the best cheese burgers, cooked to perfection on a well seasoned grill....nomnomnom....fresh from the butcher shop to your nice toasted bun. The family has had nearly everything on the menu to eat-except the Oink N Hoof N Pecker, the chicken sandwich is ENORMOUS as is the pork tenderloin, the shrimp are great and the fries mmmmmmm, I like mine well done, a little extra crispy, and they are eager to accommodate. Kids LOVE LOVE LOVE the popcorn chicken and there is enough there for them to bring some home for a late night snack. Ok, on to the ice cream, now I have never had a shake there, but the Spooner's are so good and chock full of chunky goodness. I don't care for soft serve personally, but the hard scoop and such are super, nice creamy ice cream, not the cheap junk you get at DQ. Loaded with toppings and always a smile. Banana Splits are out of this world too! Then there are the owners...who dedicate countless hours, not to mention gallons and gallons of ice cream and other goodies to the Manatee High School Football team. Random stop for a quick lunch. Funky tiny place with minimal inside seating. Fun owner who passed out bells and banged on a pot with a spoon so we could all sing happy birthday to a customer. First thing I notice is how friendly the workers are. Sit inside at the 50's style counter or stay outside under the windowed in front canopy and sit at the backyard bench tables. These guys are busy, even when it's cold or rainy. Opens at 11:AM, except Wednesday...day off. First time I went there I had the, make it up yourself, double bacon-cheese burger w/ lettuce and tomato...fires and a chocolate malt. DANG, I was stuffed...it was made the way I like it and it is very cool to find malt that tastes that good. Warning! Don't order the Banana Split for just yourself, you'll explode...HUGE! As I watched, it seemed that the portions were adequate to quite large. Went here with my family on a trip to Bradenton to see the Pittsburgh Pirates play a couple of spring training games. It was the day we arrived after a long day of travel and we wanted something quick but good, and this place was a homerun. The burgers were top notch, the fries (crinkle cut) were cooked perfectly, and the shakes were delicious. I got the butterscotch shake and highly recommend it.
