    Coconut crunchy
    Scotty C.

I've seen Shaka at events and follow them on social so I've been looking forward to trying it out... especially when I saw the coconut shrimp on their menu. They were in the neighborhood and my friend went to pick up an order. We tried to do an online pre-order, but it wasn't working. Maybe you can't submit a pre-order once service starts... not sure. I got the Coconut Crunchy and it came with a scoop of sticky rice, a ramekin of sesame soy cucumbers, some potato mac salad (not sure why as I don't think there was anything potato related in there), and coconut shrimp. Everything was great and the coconut shrimp were excellent. My only gripe is that you only get five shrimp and the plate is $17. Yes, all the sides are there to justify the price and it's definitely a full meal, but I'd love to see an option to just get shrimp instead because that was my favorite part. The shrimp are big though and they butterfly them so you get lots of crunch. Even if there was an option for a large or an upgrade for few dollars more and you got eight shrimp. I guess what I'm saying is when I go to a shrimp truck, I want more shrimp.

This food truck is well run and friendly. I had the Shaka Shrimp and it was delicious. Grilled butterflied shrimp cooked and seasoned to perfection. It comes with a scoop of sticky rice, sliced pickled cucumbers that were the perfect sweetness, and a macaroni salad that is top 5 best I have had (includes hard boiled eggs and pieces of potato). The food is very high quality. Although I wouldn't want to spend $18 on lunch every day- when I do- it should be high quality like Shaka Shrimp.

Was going on my run and noticed this truck parked Middleton park. On my way back I stopped and grabbed some food to take home. I was so happy to see that they had a veggie option even though it is shrimp focused!!! The tofu was in a yummy peanut sauce and everything tasted fresh and delicious. Service was fast and the people working were nice. Now that I know they have veggie options I will be sure to be back :)

We were greeted by a kind hostess before entering the restaurant. We quickly had a table available and were able to enjoy the fun atmosphere. There's an oyster location map painted on the brick wall helping identify where they come from. We started with three small plates including the oven roasted oysters, crude plate (shrimp and scallops) and the tuna tataki. All were outstanding but the oysters were a table favorite. For a main dish I chose the oyster po boy which was on a toasted roll and some spicy sauce. It was outstanding. The margarita was a perfect addition to the meal. I highly recommend grabbing a slice of Charleston right here at 167 Raw if you are in town.

The interior is nautical, spacious, and provided good mood lighting. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and attentive throughout the meal. Their daily specials are written on boards on the wall. I was able to try the hamachi crudo and halibut ceviche. The ceviche was refreshing, citrusy and the chips were phenomenal. For entrees, I tried the famous tuna burger which lived up to the hype. The two showstoppers had to be the scallops and romesco potatoes (side dish). I'll definitely be back!

Asked the bartender what would be good and he suggested the Creole shrimp. That sounded good and I've learned that you generally can't go wrong going with bartenders' recommendations. Anyway, they came out and they were WAY overcooked. They were like rubber and the seasoning was NOT on point. Honestly, I make Creole / bbq shrimp at home and they're always MUCH better than what I got at The Darling. The service (with the exception of the lousy recommendation) was decent enough. If I ever go back, I'll probably stick with oysters on the half shell. (Sorry no pic. I actually took one that day, but subsequently deleted it because it was so bad.)

The food was delicious--especially the oysters, which were outstanding and offered a great assortment of options to choose from. Everything we tried was fresh and expertly prepared. The restaurant is located in a beautiful historic building, which adds a lot of charm and character to the experience. While the dining area is on the second floor--which was a bit challenging since my wife is dealing with mobility issues--this is not a fault of the restaurant itself and didn't take away from the overall quality of the experience. It is on the pricier side, but the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere made it well worth it. Highly recommend and would absolutely return.

Other than positive... 1) two of us ordered the Mediterranean shrimp pasta (I think that's what it was called). The shrimp was not cooked through on both of our dishes. The Positive is that the grouper was decent however it was impossible to eat. Bun piled w/things. Seems like a good problem but not fun to try to eat as a handheld. 4) Music - Dean Martin and so forth being played in the dining room - great. Good vibe. For some reason that stopped and all we could hear was Tool being played loudly in the kitchen. The door to the kitchen was open and what I can only assume were managers were sitting on their computers at a high top right by us (I say that bc they went in and out of the kitchen and one was in chef like clothes). Why they didn't shut it down is beyond me. Overall disappointed.

Pros: location, easy to get seated, prices are decent (for DT Charleston) wait staff was good, drinks were good. Cons: primarily the food was bland. The host station was not running at its best either. We had a reservation and they told us they were "working on our table," and we should wait "under the stairs." Apparently "under the stairs" is also where they store napkins and supplies. We looked to our right and saw 3 empty and clean tables. After about 5 minutes of standing under the stairs, they sat us at one of those tables, which had not required any extra "getting ready." Just didn't sit well ( or stand well) with me.

We decided to try a little of everything (thank you to our amazing waiter- he let us know serving sizes and suggesting splitting some appetizers). We had the scallops, Caesar and milk bread. Sides: steak fries, lobster Mac and cheese, creamed spinach, and asparagus. The steak fries were such a stand out. Wow. never would have thought but incredible! Dessert had to be the affogato & crème brulee. Everything was Devine. The restaurant is bright and airy and incredibly beautiful. There's a room of wines for sale, beer, and a few dining tables. Then there's the fresh catch display case... And I must say, their selection is consistently great. The quality and freshness is top notch. And they usually have some hard to find fresh catch. What makes CudaCo stand out from other markets is that you can pick your desired catch from the display case and then have them cook it to your liking. Everything that I've had was literally foot stomping good. And to add to that, they also offer frozen seafood, premade dips, and many other items in the freezer section. Was prob the worst fried flounder I've ever had, to be completely honest. But that's not why I give this place such a low rating. It's the service. Both times I've been here - the first time to eat there and the second time to just buy some fresh fish to cook at home - the people who worked there have been borderline rude. Maybe rude is the wrong word. Personality-less might be a better descriptor. There was a major vibe of - "what do you want...because you're bothering me..." if that makes sense. Contrast that with Crosby's down the road (heading towards Folly Beach on the right) and the difference is STARK. Crosby's people are *always* so nice and helpful. Can't tell you how many times I've struck up a conversation about what I was buying and how I was planning to cook it at Crosby's. CudaCo, on the other hand, is cold and their staff seems completely indifferent about their customers. It's why I never go there anymore and I tell everyone I know to avoid it like the plague. Bottom line, save your time and money and go to Crosby's instead. Life's too short to be treated the way CudaCo treats their customers.
