These guys are at the Farmers Market every wednesday at the 5700 Wilshire building. I can't make myself order anything but the pulled pork sandwich because it's one of the best I've had! Highly recommended!! My friends tell me the lamb is equally amazing, if not better. But I'm partial to the pulled pork! read more

My husband arranged for a pig roast for my birthday celebration. It was amazing! Best birthday party ever. Mark was so professional, organized and on-time. The food was amazing especially the pig skin right off the spit. Mark even accommodated 4 vegetarians who attended. He did an amazing job. I would highly recommend Mark and Shaka Braai! read more

Mark and his wife Olivia catered for 70 people for a pre wedding welcome dinner and it was delicious. Served on time, left their work area spotless and were a pleasure to work with. Boerewors was delicious as was the peri peri chicken, Mac and cheese, salads and felafel! Mark was always responsive to my many questions which helped me plan the evening. Thank you for an amazing evening. read more

Growing up I never appreciated the difference between traditional jerky and authentic biltong but now as an adult I can truly taste and certainly enjoy the experience of biltong. Having tasted quite a few varieties, I can tell you that Shaka Braai is without question the highest quality and best tasting biltong I've ever tried. read more

We have them cater for our event last February 08, which is around 100 pax. Everyone loves the food and Mark the owner is such an amazing person. He is professional, on time and amazing to work with. Definitely booking him again in our next event. read more

What an amazing evening we had on Saturday, and largely thanks to Mark and his team! We were celebrating our son-in-law's 40th birthday and asked Mark to do a lamb on the spit for us, with accompanying potatoes, salad and pita bread. Our American friends were blown away by the lamb, and of course our South African friends thought this was the best thing ever! The lamb was tender and juicy and we were thrilled. Even better than that was the fact that Mark was on top of everything from the first phonecall. If I sent him a text to ask anything, he replied immediately. He was super reliable and a pleasure to deal with. Thank you Mark for your great service - you will be seeing us again! Sarah read more

Mark and Olivia went above and beyond today at our family event. We ordered the whole roast pig, and they arrived early, roasted the pig in our backyard, and stayed to clean up. It was absolutely delicious and so fun for our family to watch the process of the roasting. They so patiently helped everyone pose with the pig for pictures, and were absolutely professional, positive, and delivered a great product. Oh, and they bring all their own supplies! My cousin was so impressed that she booked them for a Christmas lamb roast! Thank you guys so much! read more

Amazing food from Shaka! We had catering for my son's 1st birthday this past weekend and everyone is still talking about how good and delicious the food was. Mark was very professional and answered all my emails and questions in a timely matter. I'm so glad I found Shaka's. I needed some snacks for a last-minute poker game with friends and thought some biltong and droewors would be perfect. I contacted Shaka for their opening time on a Sunday and left a message to call me back. Within 15 minutes, Mark (owner) called me back to tell me the store was closed on Sundays, but if I wanted to meet him, he would supply me with what I needed. I bought 0.5lb of Biltong (African jerky) and 0.5lb of Droewors (African dried sausage). Well, I couldn't help myself on the drive back home and had to try the droewors. Let me tell you, that first bite gave me an instant flashback to my childhood, visiting my father in South Africa when he worked there. Floods of memories of sundowners at the Kruger park stays out a friend beach house in Ramsgate. Instant nostalgia. I can't wait to crack open the biltong later... If I can refrain from opening the pack before this evening. My only regret is not buying more. Thank you, Mark, for making my day. I highly recommend Shaka's to those in the know of biltong and those who don't. Oh, and Shaka does catering also. read more

Unreal Pork BBQ ...mid-Wilshire Farmers Market. Let's keep these boys in biz!!

Mark and his team catered my husband's 40th birthday party at our house. He arrived exactly when he said he would and served everything right on time as well. We ordered a lamb spit and potatoes, served with pita bread and tzatziki - everything was delicious. The lamb was tender and juicy and the potatoes were nice and buttery from all the drippings (Mark cooks them beneath the lamb as it's roasting). Overall a wonderful experience. Would highly recommend Shaka Braai for any catering needs! read more

We had Mark cater for my wife's 50th birthday party. They cooked 2 lambs on the spit and provided typical South African salads and desserts. We were really happy with the food and the service. I would recommend them for any catered party. read more

A+ pig catering in Los Angeles. It took about 4 hours for the pig to cook from start to finish. Mark cut off the skin for munchies before it was finished! He was on-time and accommodating, and the FOOD... THE FOOD WAS AWESOME. Coleslaw not to be missed. The best I've ever had (pineapple and raisins were a nice touch). With the pork it was phenomenal. Will be using them again! read more

Great spot at the Century City Farmer's Market. I get my Thursday pulled pork fix here. The meat is flavorful and the bbq sauce sweet, but the coleslaw brings it home. I wouldn't mind trying this sandwich without the sweet bbq and switching in some pepper/vinegar sauce instead. read more

Excellent service, excellent food. They know how to cook their meats and I love their coleslaw too. They were so easy and pleasant to work with. read more

I had this at the Miracle Mile Farmer's Market. The pulled pork sandwich was subpar. I thought that it was tacky to include Lay's Potato Chips with sandwiches. The staff member was very friendly, however. I only ordered food here because the other bbq place wasn't there today. I do not think I will return here. read more

I am so glad to have chosen Shaka Braai for our housewarming party. We looked at a few caterers with various cuisines but decided the Hog Roast Split (whole roast pig) would be a highlight for the party. It certainly was a hit! We also ordered BBQ chicken so my guests can have a variety. Both main courses were very tasty and moist. For the sides, we have potato salad and coleslaw. They were excellent as well! Food was plentiful. We have a lot of leftovers for the guests to take home. All expressed the leftovers taste equally good the next day. Mark and his assistant were professional and courteous, the cleanup was meticulous. The cost was very reasonable. I definitely will consider Shaka Braai for my future parties events. read more

I have the pulled pork sandwich every Wednesday without fail at the farmers market set up on Wilshire Boulevard. The pork is cooked to perfection, and the cole slaw on the bun is cool and makes for a perfect counterbalance. Plus, Mark is one of the nicest guys around! read more

We had Shaka Braai cater our wedding. They were fantastic! Mark, who is from South Africa along with Braai, and his team were true professionals that know their way around a Braai! My wife and I didn't make it easy on them, they had to set up their Braais in a very windy setting. They overcame the weather and served up some great Tri Tip and pulled pork! The Tri Tip was cooked perfectly and had a nice smokey taste. The pulled pork was tender and came with a nice bbq sauce. For the sides we had butternut squash and fingerling potatoes . They were both very delicious! If you're looking for a stellar caterer for any occasion definitely give Mark a call! read more

I was looking for a whole animal rotisserie service and stumbled on Mark and Shaka Braai. Mark was very detailed oriented and professional. He responded to my emails in a timely manner. He set up and roasted a very delicious lamb for a party. I highly recommend the roasted potatoes. His team set everything up for the food and cleaned up as well. I plan on using him again for future roasts. read more

We had Shaka Braai out to cater our wedding reception and it was AWESOME! Everyone raved about how good the food was... the peri-peri chicken was spicy but not too spicy, the tri-tip was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the boerewors (South African sausage) was exactly like they make it in South Africa. Mark did a proper South African Braai for us and we couldn't be happier! I highly recommend him for your event. read more

Shaka Braai is sooo good! I found them at the Mid City LA Farmers Market on Wednesday (Wilshire and Masselin) and they serve Pulled Pork Sandwiches and a Lamb Pita, both are amazing, plus the guys are handsome (bites knuckles), have sexy accents (south africa, who knew?) and are extremely nice and welcoming. Great customer service. Thumbs up! read more

Eech---I also had these guys at a farmers market. The chicken looked SO GOOD--however it was so greasy it was almost inedible. With all that grease you'd think there would be some flavor but it was bland as can be. And the salad that came with it? The guy took the salad mix right out of a store bought tub and added store bought dressing to it. Nothing I couldn't do myself or have better. Maybe they are better known for the pulled pork, but stay away from the chicken. read more

I get their Pulled Pork sandwich every week at the Century City Farmer's Market. It's great, as is the service!

We used Shaka Braai for our wedding and we could not have been happier with them. Mark is lovely, professional and put our minds at ease. He was always available when we had any questions and he didn't need anything from us on the day. As for the food, every guest said it was the best wedding food they had ever had. The Australian lamb was perfection (I'm Australian), the potatoes were "melt in your mouth" delicious and the Horta (our favorite) was exactly how we liked it. He also made a great salad for half the price I was quoted from other caterers. Not to mention the spit added to the festive aesthetic and the smell wafting over the party was heavenly. We now want Shaka Braai at every one of our parties. read more
